Ranee helped me give birth to my son a week ago. I began this pregnancy receiving prenatal care from a hospital local to me. During my time with the hospital, they made me feel scared about my birth due to my age, and history of high blood pressure in my first pregnancy. Each appointment was very short and I never felt like I mattered to the provider. The final straw of me leaving the medical model was the doctor pushing the rhogam shot on me even after I explained that my husband and I both have negative blood types so we don’t need the shot. The doctors reply was to ask me if I am sure the baby is my husbands and then pushed third trimester ultrasounds on me to see if my placenta was old, the fluid too little or the baby too big, none of which has evidence based benefit to get a late term ultrasound. I left my final appointment feeling insulted and that I wasn’t listened to. This is when I found Ranee. From the very beginning of our interaction, she gave me evidence based options and made me feel confident in my ability to birth my baby naturally. She made sure to monitor my blood pressure, levels in my blood and my glucose levels. Each prenatal appointment, she spoke to me as someone she cared about and was very thorough to look into my diet and water intake and solve problems before they develop. I enjoyed the hands on approach as she felt my baby’s position, could estimate the fluid levels and heard the heart beat of my son as he moved to ensure the placenta was working as it should. The one difficult part about this model of care is the need for the mother to be understanding of Ranee’s changing schedule. Ranee has clients in all different stages of care and when someone is dealing with pregnancy loss, giving birth or other emotional factors in their life, Ranee is there with them providing care. This is both a negative and a positive because it means when you are dealing with something difficult, she will be there for you too. When it came time that I was in labor, we were set up with everything we needed. My husband was able to make a beautiful sacred space with candle light, incense and Gregorian chants in the background. It was so beautiful and relaxing. When I was ready to give birth, Ranee was there helping me to relax and reassuring me that I could do it. I gave birth to my son in a birthing pool with my midwife standing by watching over me and providing hands on help as needed. Between the two models, I would choose to give birth at the house with Ranee standing by every time. I know if she tells me I need to transfer to the hospital it would be for good reason and not because my birth became inconvenient for her. The birth of my son is a moment I will remember forever with fondness.

Shannon was an incredible newborn care specialist for our family. From the beginning, she was caring, reliable, and thoughtful in the way she cared for our newborn. She gave us tremendous peace of mind during those exhausting early months. One of the things we appreciated most was her balanced approach to helping our baby develop healthy sleep habits. Shannon was gentle and nurturing, never relying on a “cry it out” approach, but she also helped our baby learn to settle without creating habits that would be difficult to unwind later. She struck exactly the right balance between comfort, consistency, and structure. Shannon handled all of the late-night changes, soothed our baby with care, and woke us when needed for feeds. She saved us countless hours of lost sleep, stress, and second-guessing. Thanks in large part to her help, our baby was sleeping through the night by around three months. We are so grateful for Shannon and would highly recommend her to any family looking for a kind, dependable, and experienced newborn care specialist

Birth Savvy

Hi, we are Anna and Ashley, Registered Nurses specializing in High Risk Obstetrics and founders Of Birth Savvy LLC. Meet Ashley RN, BSN My career began in pediatric primary care and community health, but my true passion led me to Labor & Delivery in 2015. For several years, I worked at one of Boston’s top institutions, caring for high-risk and critically ill birthing patients. I was driven to expand my expertise beyond the delivery room—supporting families holistically throughout their entire pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience. In 2021, I transitioned into Maternal Fetal Medicine, deepening my knowledge of complex pregnancies and high-risk care. My mission is to provide a culturally competent, integrated approach that nurtures both physical and emotional well-being. Beyond my professional experience, I’ve personally navigated a high-risk pregnancy and birth—a journey that sparked my Aha! moment: knowledge, paired with unwavering support, is the true key to empowerment in the perinatal and postpartum experience. That realization led me to create Birth Savvy, because every birthing person deserves high-quality education, autonomy, and confidence. I mix humor, encouragement, and real talk to help parents connect mind and body, fuel inner strength, and embrace birth without fear. I’m a Spinning Babies® Aware Practitioner, Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor, and trained in perinatal mental health. When I’m not empowering families, you’ll find me traveling, watching action movies, enjoying great food, listening to music, and, of course, being a mom! Meet Anna RN, MSN I’m Anna, a dedicated OB nurse with over 13 years of experience in labor and delivery, postpartum, antepartum, abortion care, and Maternal Fetal Medicine. My passion for childbirth started early, inspired by my grandmother’s stories shared around the dinner table. From the moment I stepped into nursing, I knew supporting families through pregnancy and birth was my calling. Beyond hospital-based care, I earned a Master’s in Public Health and worked in community health, providing vital reproductive care and family planning services. As a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), Spinning Babies® Aware Practitioner, and Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) specialist, I bring a holistic and evidence-based approach to every birth experience. My goal is to help families feel calm, confident, and in control, no matter their journey. I founded Birth Savvy because the greatest joy in my career has been guiding parents toward empowered, informed choices—no matter how complex their situation may be. When I’m not working, you’ll find me cooking, traveling, re-learning piano, or tackling endless home improvement projects!

Plain and simple: I love all things pregnancy! After working in the music industry for nearly ten years, I experienced a deep and abrupt shift in my life trajectory upon becoming pregnant. Prior to my pregnancy, I had already declared my path of Maternal & Neonatal Health in my DrPH program, but experiencing the true miracle we call life confirmed that Maternal & Neonatal Health are in fact a huge part of my purpose, even so much so that I was willing to partially cut ties with the music business to fulfill this duty. That’s why and how I’m here for you today — I truly believe I was called to do this work. I’ve always had an interest in the unknowns of pregnancy. I was born with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia, and have lived my life with a star-shaped G-tube patch and midline incision scar that represent the intersectionality of pregnancy, what can go wrong and how we can fix it. And upon marrying my husband, a heart transplant recipient, I became even more enthralled by the specialty of disease prevention in infants. Many wonder why I took the DrPH path as opposed to a traditional MD degree, and the truth is that nothing I’ve ever done in my life was conventional. It is my belief that addressing Maternal & Neonatal Health issues from the standpoint of public health practice is not only effective, but is also fulfilling. As a public health practitioner, I address the risks and patterns of pregnancy complications as a population-wide problem. I’m not a medical doctor because I am not interested in treating these conditions: I am a public health doctor because I am committed to preventing them altogether.

Kristin Smith Popular: among the most-viewed newborn care specialists in Massachusetts, last 60 days

I’ve spent more than 15 years supporting families through birth, postpartum recovery, and overnight newborn care. I began my career as a professional nanny, working closely with more than a dozen children over several years. In 2008, I was honored to be recognized as Nanny of the Year by Family Helpers, and the following year I was selected as a finalist to appear on ABC’s America’s Supernanny. In 2009, I trained as a Birth and Postpartum Doula. Around the same time, I became a parent myself. Experiencing the postpartum period firsthand gave me a deeper understanding of how vulnerable, complex, and important those early weeks can be. That experience ultimately shaped my decision to focus my work on supporting families during birth and the transition home with a new baby. Over the years, I have attended 112 births and supported more than 200 families, including 39 sets of twins, through postpartum and overnight newborn care. As my private practice grew, I founded Nightingale Night Nurses, an overnight newborn care agency based in Massachusetts. Through that work, I built and led a team of experienced Postpartum Doulas, Newborn Care Specialists, and nurses, creating individualized care plans for families seeking overnight and extended newborn support. Building on that foundation, I later expanded the work nationally under the name Well Supported Family, with a continued focus on ethical practices, professional sustainability, and high-quality, family-centered care. We would love the opportunity to support your family's postpartum experience.

As new parents, can't imagine what we would have done without Bethany and Keyana's support. The mental, emotional, and physical support and care is priceless during the newborn phase and we cannot recommend Well Supported Family enough- especially for new parents! Thank you Karina and team for taking such good care of us so we in turn could take care of our son.
