What's the Cost of Hiring a Midwife in Meridian, MS?

The cost of a midwife in Meridian, MS, can vary depending on the services provided, the midwife's experience, and whether care is delivered at home, a birthing center, or in conjunction with a hospital. On average, midwifery services in the U.S. can range from $2,000 to $6,000 for prenatal care, labor, and delivery. Some insurance plans may cover part or all of these costs, so it is best to check with local providers and your insurance company for specific pricing and coverage in Meridian, MS.

The cost of a midwife in Meridian, MS can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Whether insurance covers the cost of a midwife in Meridian, MS, depends on your specific insurance plan and provider. Many insurance policies do cover midwifery services, especially if the midwife is a licensed or certified professional and the care is deemed medically necessary. Some plans may require the midwife to be in-network or may cover only certain types of midwifery, such as hospital-affiliated midwives over home birth midwives. It’s essential to contact your insurance provider to confirm your coverage details, including any co-pays, deductibles, or pre-authorization requirements. Additionally, some midwives may offer payment plans or sliding scale fees for those without insurance.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

When considering hiring a midwife in Meridian, MS, it's advisable to research and interview several midwives to find one who aligns with your birth plan, preferences, and budget. During consultations, you can discuss their specific services, insurance acceptance, and pricing structure to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is included and the associated costs.

"I cannot recommend Brandi highly enough. As a Christian Doula, she brought a sense of peace and spiritual grounding to my birth space that I didn't even know I needed. What truly sets Brandi apart is her heart for advocacy. My birth ended up being the complete opposite of my original plan in every way possible, but Brandi didn't blink. She pivoted instantly, ensuring I felt heard, supported, and empowered even as the circumstances changed. She wasn't just there for the 'perfect' birth; she was there for my birth. To top it off, her postpartum services are incredible. The placenta encapsulation has been a huge help in my recovery, and the placenta prints and cord preservation are such beautiful, sacred keepsakes that I will treasure forever. If you want a doula who is professional, deeply faithful, and a fierce advocate for your well-being, Brandi is the one."

I'm a passionate birthworker since 2020, specializing in Lamaze/Breathology, childbirth education, prenatal yoga, and birth/postpartum doula services. Based in McComb but originally from Cincinnati, I proudly serve the wonderful communities of Southwest Mississippi and Southeast Louisiana In 2024, I took a big step in my career by deciding to begin my midwifery journey, and fully stepping into my midwife era. Now, as an apprenticing midwife/monitriece, I focus on traditional midwifery and herbalism, bringing ancient wisdom to modern birth practice, while still also serving the community as a full spectrum doula. As a homeschooling mom of three energetic, young, vivacious girls, I deeply value the importance of providing comprehensive and compassionate care to families during the childbearing year. I'm dedicated to empowering women and their families to make informed choices about their birth and postpartum experiences, ensuring they feel supported every step of the way.

My experience with Herlistic Living was truly professional, meaningful, and beyond my expectations. From the very beginning, Mrs. Adriana Hawkins-Smith was extremely attentive and knowledgeable. She took the time to answer every question I had thoroughly and clearly, whether it was by phone, text message, or during our in-person conversations. Her communication was consistent, reassuring, and made me feel completely confident throughout the entire process. The transfer of my placenta from the hospital to her care was smooth and stress-free, with no issues at all. Mrs. Hawkins-Smith handled everything with the utmost professionalism and respect. She did an amazing job preparing my placenta fertilizer, and the umbilical cord gift was beautifully done and very meaningful to me. I am truly grateful for her care, attention to detail, and dedication to her work. I sincerely thank her for everything she has done for me and would highly recommend Herlistic Living to anyone looking for compassionate, knowledgeable, and trustworthy services.

From such a young age, we are taught to fear birth. We are told that birth is a something that we have to get through in order to have a baby. Birth is demonized and seen as dangerous and something that must be managed. But the more and more that I do this work, the more and more that I just cannot believe this is true. Yes, birth is intense, and birth is hard. But birth is not bad, it is not something that we need to avoid or get through. When given the space and care, birth transforms us. It can show you your strength, it can empower you, it can call you to lean on the love and support of the ones around you. Birth asks you to make space for the parts of yourself that we so often try to hide. It asks you to draw inward and trust your intuition and be loud and take up space.  My job as a doula is not to be your voice or to make your birth happen any specific way, but it is to make space for your voice to be heard and make space for you to have autonomy over your body and decisions. It is to join you in holding the physical intensity of birth. Nothing that I do can take that away, but my goal is to help you know that you are never alone in walking through it, and hopefully give you tools and options to support your body. Your birth is your birth, not mine, not your sisters, not your parents.  I am a body positive, lgbtq+ affirming doula. I have a special interest in supporting clients in low-intervention, physiological births, with an emphasis on following your intuition and values. I understand that the world does not treat us all equally; my mission is to ensure that all people are able to have access to affirming, compassionate, and empowering care. Please check out my website (www.honeybirthbham.com) if you believe we would be a good fit!
