I am Shanna Hinrichs, and my story of community birth began over 20 years ago when I began supporting families as a doula, lactation consultant, and now midwife. I have known I was called to help women bring their babies earthside since I was a young child. I didn't know what that would look like, but I was fortunate to witness the intimate and precious home birth of a dear friend. That experience revealed my path as a birth worker and ignited my desire to serve women and their families in their most powerful and vulnerable moments. I am fulfilled by serving my incredible clients as their families grow. Attending births builds my trust over and over in women's bodies and their ability to transform and heal. To me birth is a very sacred experience that should be treated as such. Before stepping into the role of a midwife, I spent nearly three years as a labor and delivery nurse in a hospital setting. It provided me with a solid foundation and invaluable experience, but I slowly came to realize that my values did not align with the hospital culture. When I moved to San Diego in 2018 I decided to leave the hospital and pursue my dream of becoming a midwife. During my training I truly fell in love with home birth. Witnessing a baby enter this world in the very place they will grow up is an incredibly special and sacred experience that deeply touches my heart. Hello, I am a certified postpartum doula. I have worked with babies/children since I was 13. I babysat and nannied throughout my teenage years. In college I worked at numerous daycare facilities (newborn-preschool). I earned my bachelors degree from the University of North Texas in early childhood education. I taught for 5 years in 2nd grade and in PE. In 2008 we welcomed our first (of six) baby. I now have 5 boys and a daughter that I homeschool. My youngest is now six and I miss the newborn season!!
