Two days after I gave birth I was up making myself breakfast, getting my oldest off to school, and driving myself and new baby to his first pediatric appointment. I felt alone and isolated. Many days I would just cry from being overwhelmed. I told my doula and lactation consultant that as soon as I was healed I would train to be a postpartum doula so that no other families nor mom would have to suffer in silence. Now, as a birth and postpartum doula, I get to make sure that moms can have the birth they want, and a peaceful, sustainable life after their sweet baby has arrived. I’ve been babysitting since I was a teenager, and have years of experience caring for children. I’m currently in between nursing jobs and looking for jobs on the side. I just spent 6 months on a pediatric unit along with regularly floating to the NICU. Since I loved working with infants in the NICU, I thought an infant overnight care job may be a good fit for me. Around that same time, a deep desire to donate breast milk to mothers in need kindled a fire in my soul.
