Hi, I’m Andrea Carter—founder of It Takes a Village, midwife, mother, and passionate birth advocate. Originally from Gary, Indiana, I made Dallas my home in 2015. Though I dreamed of becoming an OB/GYN as a child, it was my own powerful birth experiences that led me to step into the world of natural birth and begin my journey as a doula in 2016. ​Since then, I’ve had the honor of walking alongside over 160 families as a doula and supporting more than 300 families as a student midwife. ​Nusrat Jahan Moon prefers to introduce herself as Amatullah. ​Amatullah is a mother of two beautiful children. After a traumatic birth experience with her first child, she felt an overwhelming desire to become a doula. Then, by Allah's infinite mercy, she used the knowledge gained from her AMANI Birth training during the birth of her second child to experience a natural delivery. She has expressed her desire to gain more knowledge about natural childbirth in the future. ​She is also a writer and is the author of Brishtyveja Bikel. ​She worked with Sorobor as a writer for about two years. Her writings have been published in all of Roudromoyee's books. Moreover, her work has been published by Somokalin Prokason, Muhammad Publication, and several other publishing houses. She has also edited a book called Sukher Natai. ​According to her, motherhood is a difficult path, and she wants to be a companion of mothers on this journey. (Al-Quran, Surah Al-Mulk 67:2) ​Birth is a miracle, as Allah (SWT) creates a human being in the womb and gives it life. Every human is different in color, height, personality, and spirituality. ​The more she thinks about this miracle, the more she feels an urge to be a part of it. Becoming a Birth Doula has become her passion day by day. Working with the mothers who are carrying a living example of Allah's existence is a huge blessing for her. She hopes it will keep reminding her of her true goal in this life: that we all have to return to Him, the one who created all of us.

Unfortunately, the birth of my son did not go as planned for many reasons: my doula could not attend my birth, I preeclampsia complications, and my son was in a breech position. Birth is a transformation, but it can also come with trauma. My experience compelled me to become a doula to hopefully help other women have better birth experiences than I did. I’m also passionate about postpartum care; in the time after giving birth, I felt vulnerable and, although I had endured a major physical and emotional event, I was not often the focus or concern. Even amidst so much joy and love for my son, people quickly begin asking about the baby and forget to ask about the new parent. I want to be the doula that I wish I could have had! The role of postpartum doula is to mother the mother, to educate and encourage new parents, and ensure the new family is thriving together. My love of caregiving and my passion of supporting other mothers is combined in the role of postpartum doula.

Inspired by my own reproductive journey, I feel called to do birth work in this phase of my life. I have the most wonderful five year old daughter and being her Mom is absolutely the best part of my life, however my journey to her did not come without its challenges. From struggling with pregnancy loss, to a pregnancy that required me to be on full bed rest for my entire third trimester, and ultimately delivering via c-section. I am well versed in needing supportive around the clock care. And most importantly I count that care as one of my biggest blessings. I believe that care is what allowed me to bring a beautiful baby to this world safely and transition to motherhood with confidence.

Prinscilla Moore CPD CLE CNPE, is the founder of Delighted to Doula Birth Services. For as long as she can remember, supporting and educating families has been her passion. Prinscilla believes all families should be properly educated and equipped with the knowledge and tools they need in preparation for postpartum and infant care. Prinscilla is a wife, mother of four beautiful girls, and a grandmother. Prinscilla decided to pursue her passion professionally by becoming a doula. Prinscilla completed doula training for birth, postpartum, lactation education, and new parent education through Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (“CAPPA”). Since 2012, Prinscilla has been servicing families in Michigan, California, and now Texas.
