What's the Cost of Hiring a Midwife in Pitt Meadows, BC?

In British Columbia, including Pitt Meadows, the services of a registered midwife are typically covered under the provincial Medical Services Plan (MSP) for residents with valid MSP coverage. This means there is no direct cost to the patient for standard midwifery care, which includes prenatal care, attendance during labor and delivery, and postpartum care. If you are not covered by MSP, you would need to contact local midwifery practices to inquire about their fees. Additional costs may apply for specific services or tests not covered by MSP.

The cost of a midwife in Pitt Meadows, BC can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

In British Columbia, including Pitt Meadows, the cost of a registered midwife is covered under the Medical Services Plan (MSP) for residents with active MSP coverage. This means you do not have to pay out of pocket for midwifery care if you are enrolled in MSP. Registered midwives are primary care providers for low-risk pregnancies and offer comprehensive care during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. However, if you opt for additional services outside the standard care provided by a midwife, such as certain tests or therapies, those may not be covered, so it's important to confirm with your midwife and MSP.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

When considering hiring a midwife in Pitt Meadows, BC, it's advisable to research and interview several midwives to find one who aligns with your birth plan, preferences, and budget. During consultations, you can discuss their specific services, insurance acceptance, and pricing structure to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is included and the associated costs.

As a new mom, my husband and I didn’t have any family nearby, so I had many questions and felt unsure about what to expect after my pregnancy. Tiffany was a helpful resource before, during, and after the birth. With so many things I didn’t know and no one to guide me, Tiffany stayed with us and was always friendly, dependable and easy to talk to. She offered kind support and helpful advice for all my questions. Our baby also felt very comfortable with her, which made our transition to life with a new baby much easier. We are very thankful for Tiffany’s help as our doula. Having her around at such an important time meant a lot to our family. Even months after the baby was born, she continued to be a caring and dependable presence, and our little one has grown to love her.

Hey my name is Santaya, I am a Birth doula.I work as a pregnancy coach while also being a personal trainer for delivery. I work with families to help them achieve their goals for birth. This means i meet with patients (and families) twice during pregnancy to go over needs and goals for clients birth plans. During my clients pregnancy i visit them every trimester to do a check up. In these visits i go over what to expect within that trimester and answer any of the patients questions. I also track the pregnancy in a book that i give to the patient after delivery. I offer business hours on call support to my clients. This means i will be available from 9 am-5pm for physical support, emotional support and informational support via text or call. I help assist/coach my clients with delivery at the hospital however long that may be.I don't have to do shift change. I am present during labor till a few hours after.I help support clients that decide on natural birth, epidural or C section. Postpartum clients usually feel they no longer need men after a couple hours. Most times this is natural for the family unit to adjust and adapt to normal everyday life. However, I also offer packages for postpartum newborn aftercare where I can assist with breastfeeding and overnight care of the newborn. My passion in life is the celebration of mothers. Working with women and helping women build their families THIER way. Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you feel you are in need of a doula please reach out. I offer 1hr consultations in person for $25 dollars.Or free 15 minute consultation over the phone. You can contact me via email @ taya.prodoula@gmail.com. Hello expecting families! My name is Char and I am a Birth/Postpartum Doula, Prenatal Yoga Instructor and currently enrolled in a Childbirth Educator course. Ive supported families through the DSABC and DAFGP. I was a community Doula with Indigenous Health (VCH) and was a Pregnancy outreach worker with BFL. I taught in group, focused on 1:1 sessions and supported Prenatal and Postpartum groups. I worked in healthcare for 9-years, mainly in administration. I supported an array of practitioners working with western medicine, holistic and traditional medicine. This experience allows me to work as a supporting bridge between both worlds, whether you are planning a hospital or home birth. How I show up in this work has a lot to do with my upbringing. I really enjoy care taking for mom during birth and postpartum, as I know it such a beautiful but sensitive time. My nurturing care was taught by my late mother, who I think was an unofficial doula herself. I learned how to tend to others through gentle touch, as my mom would give me massages growing up, when the children were unwell. I learned my calming essence from the relaxing environment my mom would create, the sound of soothing music in the morning, the added touches of nature in the home and the smell of incense burning. My love of teaching also ensures that you leave our sessions being informed and hopefully more confident!

Charlene provided the perfect experience and covered all of my needs! She's incredibly prepared to coach through coping measures, keep the environment calm, and provide comfort! When I was at my most vulnerable she still treated me with dignity. She passed no judgment and really helped me get through a difficult time. I'm grateful to have had someone so calm and gentle to be with me on such an important day. I cannot stress enough how amazing she is. Everyone needs a Charlene for their birth experience.

Preparing to welcome our first baby while being relatively new in the Netherlands was daunting. Though the country provides excellent prenatal and delivery support, Syllona stood out as an invaluable guide, filling the gaps in our understanding, offering clarity, and providing the emotional support we deeply needed. From the very beginning, Syllona took the time to understand our knowledge, concerns, and expectations. She identified areas where we lacked confidence and equipped us with practical tools, especially for pain management during labor. Her guidance empowered both of us (partner and mom) to approach delivery with confidence, knowing what to expect and how to navigate each step. Syllona’s preparation was thorough and personalized. She helped us define her role and my role as the partner, ensuring we were aligned and ready. When the challenging moment of delivery arrived, her presence was reassuring. She seamlessly stepped in when needed, allowing me to support my partner fully, while she provided expert care and encouragement. Her support didn’t end with delivery. In those exhausting early days, Syllona’s help allowed us to rest, knowing our baby was in loving and capable hands. Those few extra hours of sleep make all the difference :) We truly believe our experience would have been much harder without Syllona. She didn’t just offer support. She helped us navigate the process with confidence and care. We’re so grateful for everything she did during this important time.

De’Angela is truly a gift. From the very beginning, she made me feel seen, supported, and cared for in a way that went far beyond the basics. She brings this calm, grounding energy that makes even the overwhelming moments feel manageable. She listens deeply, shows up consistently, and advocates with so much heart. What I love most is how genuine she is — she doesn’t just “do the job,” she connects. She encouraged me, reminded me of my own strength, and made sure I never felt alone in my journey. Any family would be lucky to have her by their side. I cannot recommend De’Angela enough. She’s compassionate, knowledgeable, dependable, and an absolute powerhouse of support.

Working with Mak has honestly been one of the best decisions we’ve made during this pregnancy. From the very first consultation, she was so kind, genuine, and informative. She came to my home, sat down with me, walked me through what her role as a doula would look like, answered all my questions, and instantly made me feel comfortable. I never felt pressured or “sold to” at all. If anything, she gave me the information and confidence I needed to make the best decision for myself. What stood out to me most was how empowering she was. She reminded me that I was fully capable of having a beautiful birth experience with or without a doula, which I really respected. In the end, I chose to move forward with her because I could tell her focus was truly on supporting both me and my partner throughout the experience. She also checks in often just to see how I’m doing and how pregnancy is going, and she always congratulates me with each passing week. It may seem small, but it’s been so encouraging and reassuring during this season, especially after 4 previous miscarriages. Our first official appointment together was amazing too. My partner was there and had such a great experience with her as well. She’s very hands-on in such a comforting and supportive way. She guided us through different exercises and learning activities without it ever feeling overwhelming. She brought dolls to teach diaper changing, diapers, a medicine ball, handouts for birth prep, interactive card games around birth preferences and important conversations, and so many other thoughtful tools. You can tell she really knows her stuff and genuinely cares about the families she works with. The heart she brings into her work is really special and has made this experience even more magical than it already always was!

Hi there, my name is Joann. I am deeply passionate about birth work and understand that each pregnancy and birth experience is unique. My goal is to provide evidence-informed care that empowers families to make the choices that feel right for them. I am also bilingual in English and Spanish, which allows me to support families in the language they feel most comfortable with. When I’m not supporting families, I’m busy with my three children and two Frenchton pups. I love connecting with people, sharing knowledge, and helping parents feel confident and supported during this transformative time.

Joann was such an incredible support to us throughout pregnancy, labour, and postpartum. Our baby is 6 months old now and when I think of his birth, I remember how amazing it was to have Joann there. I had a planned c-section after a very traumatic delivery with my first, so I knew I wanted a doula by my side, but also to support hubby in case he needed it. Throughout pregnancy, Joann was a cheerleader, always there to talk. When our little guy decided he couldn’t wait until his planned c-section date, Joann pivoted and met us as at the hospital as soon as we needed her. She came with her bag of tricks (lol) to help me through labour (a labour I wasn’t anticipating because of the scheduled c-section), which progressed so quickly, and she was so great at ensuring both myself and hubby were supported where and when we needed. She took beautiful pics too and stayed with us until we were settled in our room. The overnight visits were a game changer, too! We love and appreciate Joann, and couldn’t imagine what the experience would have been like without her! I’ve given birth without a doula, and with a doula - having Joann there was the experience any mama deserves when having a baby <3
