The cost of a midwife in Portage, MI can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Michigan Medicaid covers care provided by certified nurse-midwives, including prenatal visits, birth, and postpartum services, because this is a required Medicaid benefit nationwide. Coverage for licensed or certified professional midwives at home or in birth centers can differ by Medicaid plan. Portage has a modest local market, with three midwives listed within 60 miles. Private insurance coverage varies, so confirm benefits and network requirements with your insurer.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

For the past 10 years, I’ve had the honor of supporting growing families through Reverent Life Services. My experience spans home births, birth centers, and hospitals, giving me a broad understanding of the many ways birth can unfold. I believe birth deserves to be approached with reverence, preparation, compassion, and respect for each family’s individual values and choices. As a birthworker and bodyworker, I draw from multiple gentle modalities, including Zero Balancing and clinical acupressure, to help support comfort, relaxation, and connection throughout the childbearing experience. Reverent Life Services is rooted in the belief that birth is more than an event—it is a profound threshold in the life of a family. In addition to doula support, I offer intentional birth services and meaningful ways to honor and preserve the experience, including placenta encapsulation, bodywork, birth art, handcrafted jewelry, and breastmilk soap. Whether you are preparing for your first birth or welcoming another member into your family, my goal is to offer knowledgeable, compassionate support while creating space for you to feel informed, empowered, and deeply cared for throughout the journey.

We had Heather as our birth doula for the home birth of our second kiddo, and we truly couldn’t have asked for anyone better. Heather has a unique way of holding space for the people around her. From the very beginning, she brought a calm, reassuring presence that made us feel supported and cared for throughout the entire experience. She was incredibly supportive of my partner, always attentive to what she needed, while also helping make sure everything around us was the way it needed to be. What stood out most was how naturally Heather seemed to know when to step in and when to simply be present. She was there to support us, encourage us, and help us have the birth experience we wanted. Her compassion, attentiveness, and ability to create a sense of calm made such a difference for our family. We are incredibly grateful that Heather was there to welcome our little one into the world with us. We would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for a doula who will genuinely care for and support them through such an important moment in their lives.

The dream is to empower YOU to advocate for YOURSELF. No one knows your body like you do. No one knows your baby like you do. I do the work, the research so that you go into birth fully prepared to make the birth you crave, happen! I also so fully believe that everyone, and I mean everyone… deserves this. So if we need to talk about pricing and/or a payment plan to make it happen. Please please bring that up. I’m a doula on the team at Great Lakes Doulas.

Having a doula for the birth of my son was the best decision I could have made. This was my first baby which of course comes with its own unique fears and excitements. Ashley was excellent at calming those fears and encouraging those excitements. I never knew how important it was to have someone be an advocate while pregnant, through delivery, and postpartum. Ashley is extremely compassionate, kind, and knowledgeable when it comes to babies, carrying them and delivering them. I asked her so many questions and she always had an answer, she would still continue to do research to make sure I had all the information I needed. She believes strongly in the ability of moms and I needed that to keep me going. She was my biggest cheerleader from the day I told her I was pregnant, to my first drops of colostrum, to ending up getting an epidural and to even now when tell her about our good and bad days. Everyone should have a doula, and especially so when you want to do things as natural as possible. If you believe God made you to do this, then you should have Ashley by your side and in your corner.

Logan Halsted

Hello! I'm Logan! My journey to becoming a doula was deeply influenced by my own personal experiences with childbirth. I've experienced a range of birth scenarios, including two cesarean sections, and three VBAC births. After my initial two C-sections, I felt a strong desire for a better birth experience. This led me to immerse myself in research about birth and VBAC options. With the knowledge I gained, I felt empowered to pursue a VBAC and was successful in achieving three vaginal births. I am passionate about educating and empowering other women to understand their options and feel supported in making the best choices for their own birth journey. I'm here to support you, as together we research, learn, and prepare for the birth you envision. I'm proud to be a certified doula through the West Michigan Midwifery Institute, and I'm committed to providing compassionate and informed support to every woman I serve.

When I got pregnant with our fourth child my husband and I both knew without a doubt that we wanted Logan to be our doula. She’s everything a pregnant momma could ask for! Logan is a great encourager, advocate, and educator. She takes the time to listen to other people’s needs and desires and works to make those a reality. I have complicated pregnancies and Logan made sure to take the time to do some research regarding my needs, pointed me to many valuable resources, and helped me think through what the best options were for me. She is honest, yet gentle and genuinely cares about those she works with. Logan was willing to go to doctors appointments with me as well to help voice my desires when my OB was unwilling to listen to or work with me. With her by my side I always felt much more at ease and prepared to welcome a precious new life into the world. I would choose Logan for a doula again every single time, hands down!
