With the birth of my niece in 2022, I began learning about the world of birth support and decided to take the jump into birth work at the start of 2025. In March, I trained as a doula with DONA at San Diego County Midwives, and knew I wanted to start my work in the volunteer space. Since May 2025, I have volunteered with UCSD's Hearts & Hands doula program and have logged over 150 hours on the Labor & Delivery floor as a badged member of the team, giving me invaluable hands-on experience for all types of births. I have continued my education in multiple areas including: -Peanut ball training with San Diego County Midwives -Spinning Babies® workshop -WIC's lactation seminar -Observed a 5-week Childbirth/Hypnobirthing course with The Birth Education Center. -I am trained in HIPAA protocols, hospital best practices, and am CPR certified. I now have plans to take what I have learned in my volunteer births and further education and start accepting private clients in 2026! Outside of the birth room I enjoy reading, hosting dinner parties, eating Wayfarer pastries at the park, puttering around the garden, and spending time with my husband and family. I fell in love with all things birth when I became pregnant with my 1st child in 2008. As an avid reader and researcher, I made it my goal to learn everything I possibly could about the biology and physiology of birth, and how to have optimal health during and after pregnancy for both me and my baby. Like many first-time moms I have worked with, I had hesitations about giving birth to my 1st baby outside of a hospital setting. After all my research, classes, and conversations with midwives, I gained confidence in aiming for an unmedicated birthing experience. I found some lovely midwifes who had a midwifery ward in a hospital and gave birth to my 1st son unmedicated. Twenty-four hours of intense back labor from a posterior-positioned baby …but, I did it! My body actually did it! After birthing my first, statistically knowing it was the most challenging and longest labor, gave me confidence to choose home births for my second and third children. I had a successful home water birth with my second child and wanted to repeat that with my third. However, while laboring on the toilet with him, I suddenly dropped to my knees when he began to crown, and he became known as my bathroom floor “butter birth” baby :). Though I chose unmedicated births for myself, I do know it is not for everyone, which is more than OK! I quickly learned from my role as a doula that every woman’s body, medical history, and background are uniquely different. Many factors play into choosing the right birth for you. I am here to come alongside you, help you make an informed decision, and then support you every step of the way. I offer very personable and compassionate care. My journey to becoming a mother was not easy. I had two very different and difficult births that taught me a lot about myself and the challenges of childbirth. My first birth was a long and exhausting labor that ended in an emergency cesarean. I felt scared, helpless, and disappointed that I couldn’t have the natural birth I wanted. My second birth was a planned cesarian, I felt unprepared, anxious, and overwhelmed by the intensity of the experience and felt guilty for not trying to deliver naturally. Both of my births left me feeling traumatized and in need of healing. ​ These experiences made me realize that there is a gap in the traditional healthcare system when it comes to supporting mothers during birth. I felt that I didn’t get enough information, education, or emotional support from my providers, and that I had to advocate for myself and my baby. I decided to become a doula to fill that gap and to help other mothers have a better birth experience. As a doula, I offer personalized and continuous support to mothers before, during, and after birth. I help them prepare for their birth, cope with their pain, communicate with their providers, and celebrate their achievements.
