I need a birth doula for sure. I plan to give birth at Sibley hospital in DC. Budget is negotiable, although I'd like to stay under $2,000 if possible. I would like someone with at least 5 years' experience. I'm a 46-year-old first-time mom. My insurance provider is Carefirst BCBS. Doulas are a covered benefit. I have a BluePreferred PPO plan. I'd also like information about lactation consultants and night nannies. Thank you!

I’m really nervous about labor and delivery. I want an epidural and am good with medical intervention. I’m nervous that my husband won’t be calm during the birthing process. I need someone who can help me be calm through it and help coach my husband through it. I also am nervous about being very vulnerable during birth and consent is very important for me and want to make sure I feel comfortable and not taken advantage of. We’re moving midway through the pregnancy to the DC region, Maryland side. We’ll probably live in the Rockville area but I’m hoping to give birth with the midwives at George Washington University’s hospital. I’m looking for a labor doula to support an unmediated birth. I also struggled with low supply with my first child so I’m hoping to find a lactation consultant who specialises in that. We have Tricare, which covers both doulas and IBCLCs.

I am looking for a doula to have guidance on having a mother vaginal birth following a cesarean birth from my last pregnancy. I want to avoid that happening again and especially avoid that healing process I had to go through with my little boy.

I’m looking for additional support that is affordable for labor and potentially post-partum. My husband is amazing and will be there, but my research suggests that having a doula can help to avoid unnecessary C-sections and episiotomies. I am NOT looking to do a natural birth and my research concludes that I absolutely will want an epidural, as the benefits outweigh the labor pain risks for me. That being said, I want an advocate who understands birthing. Someone who will be able to communicate with the doctors in instances where I cannot. I can’t expect my husband to do all of this, and I may be incapacitated/not thinking straight. Looking for someone with experience supporting brown and black mothers, being our advocates, and standing up for us for our needs and wants. For example, I’d like to do a vaginal birth with an epidural, and be able to move around and be in the best position, whatever it takes for labor to go the most smoothly if it is uncomplicated. I also want to be sure that the baby received skin to skin contact from both me and my husband. Other than that, I’d like to simply learn more about the support I’d receive as well as potentially have someone with the right touch to provide massage or comfort during this time. This is my first child and I’d like to ease my anxiety as much as possible. I’d like to understand the types of support I could get for about $1,500 but we can discuss options. We plan to give birth at Georgetown University Hospital and I am currently a Medstar patient.
