My approach is simple: I meet you where you are. I take the time to understand you and your family's priorities for your birth, and I offer as much (or as little!) education as you'd like. Getting ready together I offer a birth planning session where we walk through what to expect in early labor, once you arrive at your place of birth, and the options available to you during admission, pushing, newborn care, and the third stage. I have been a birth doula for ten years, a CLC for six years and a postpartum doula for three years. I came to birthwork after the births of my two oldest children- we had excellent support through two very different birth experiences and that put me on this path to supporting other families. I trained with Therese Hak-Kuhn of ToLabor, and while in the midst of having children attended births occasionally for a few years, and have been doing full time doula work since 2022. I work at a group practice with an excellent backup system. My team provides five prenatal touchpoints and on call support starting at 38 weeks until your baby is born, as well as two postpartum visits. I support clients in hospital and out of hospital settings. Between the training I received at the ToLabor workshop and my own personal experiences, I grew to shape my philosophy on what my role is. Having experienced a wide variety of outcomes welcoming my own five children - one unmedicated hospital birth, one home birth transfer cesarean, and three home birth VBACs (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) I've learned there is no one right way to give birth! My goal is to get to know each client as well as I can to best anticipate your needs during labor and birth! I provide prenatal, birth, postpartum and reproductive care for all birthing people and their families in the DC, Maryland and Virginia area. I completed my training with Doula Trainings International in February 2026 and I’m currently working towards my certification. In the summer of 2025, I became a mom and was privileged to be able to give birth to my son in the comfort of our home. The powerful experience of laboring in the arms of my partner and my mother, surrounded by an incredible team of midwives left a strong imprint on me. I decided to step into the birth care space because I want all birthing people to have the same level of support my people have done for me, who have kept me held throughout labor and nursed me back through postpartum. I am deeply aware of the inequity and challenges facing many birthing people in the US, especially to our black, brown, indigenous and immigrant families. I also realize that the solution does not lie in asking birthing people and their families to “get more educated” and “find more support”. What we need a system-wide policy change that address core issues: guaranteed paid family leave, affordable childcare, and affordable medical care. This work is inherently political, because too many birthing people have been paying the price with their own bodies and babies. Birth work is my prayer that we all receive the love, care and support we deserve, no matter who we are or where we come from. Hi, I’m Morgan, a birth doula with a deep passion for supporting women through the sacred and powerful journey of pregnancy and birth. Outside of birth work, you can often find me hiking, camping, traveling, walking my two corgis, reading, spending time with my husband and son, or serving my church and local community. My heart for women’s health began during my very first OB/GYN appointment as a teenager, when I had to navigate a complicated diagnosis and a series of confusing and often scary interactions with specialists. Years later, after facing complications during the birth of my son, my passion for informed care and patient advocacy only grew stronger. That experience not only taught me the importance of understanding my health and my options, but it also deepened my trust in the Lord. Through it all, my faith grew as I leaned into His strength during a season full of unknowns. Since then, I’ve become deeply committed to helping women feel informed, empowered, and supported throughout their reproductive journeys. My journey led me to work on a research team developing an intrauterine balloon stent to help treat Asherman’s Syndrome—a role that involved shadowing OB/GYNs and midwives and sparked a deeper appreciation for the science behind pregnancy and birth. I truly believe that birth is not only fascinating from a medical standpoint, but also incredibly beautiful and sacred. I have been in the healthcare field since I completed my Bachelor of Science at Marymount University where I studied Health Promotion and minored in Public Health. I was concerned during the pandemic about the alarming rates at which black women and women of color were passing away at a time that is supposed to be joyous. With not having kids of my own yet, I would like to put out the good I’d like to receive when my time comes. Hey there! I'm Jenn Carlson, your friendly neighborhood doula! I call Springfield, VA home, where I live with my husband, Eddie—a rock musician who moonlights as a film critic. (Or maybe it’s the other way around? Either way, there's a lot of passionate reviews in my house!). I spent over two decades as an IT pro and a stage manager before diving headfirst into my most exciting production: raising two amazing daughters. Both of their births were high-drama—think less "rom-com" and more "medical thriller." But those experiences sparked a fire in me to help other women feel empowered during labor, and thus began my journey as a doula. Since 2013, I've been lucky enough to attend over 700 births and help nearly 300 new moms recover through the magical art of placenta encapsulation (yes, it’s a thing and it’s awesome).
