What's the Cost of Hiring a Midwife in Surrey, BC?

The cost of a midwife in Surrey, BC, is covered under the Medical Services Plan (MSP) for residents of British Columbia with valid health coverage. This means there is no direct cost to you for midwifery care if you are enrolled in MSP. However, if you do not have MSP coverage, you would need to pay out of pocket, and the fees can vary. It's best to contact local midwifery clinics in Surrey for specific details if MSP does not apply.

The cost of a midwife in Surrey, BC can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

In Surrey, BC, midwifery care is covered under the Medical Services Plan (MSP) of British Columbia for residents with valid MSP coverage. This means you do not need to pay out-of-pocket for the services of a registered midwife, as their care is fully funded by the provincial health system. However, if you have private insurance and are seeking additional services (e.g., certain tests, ultrasounds, or alternative therapies), it is best to check directly with your insurance provider to confirm what is covered.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

When considering hiring a midwife in Surrey, BC, it's advisable to research and interview several midwives to find one who aligns with your birth plan, preferences, and budget. During consultations, you can discuss their specific services, insurance acceptance, and pricing structure to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is included and the associated costs.

As a new mom, my husband and I didn’t have any family nearby, so I had many questions and felt unsure about what to expect after my pregnancy. Tiffany was a helpful resource before, during, and after the birth. With so many things I didn’t know and no one to guide me, Tiffany stayed with us and was always friendly, dependable and easy to talk to. She offered kind support and helpful advice for all my questions. Our baby also felt very comfortable with her, which made our transition to life with a new baby much easier. We are very thankful for Tiffany’s help as our doula. Having her around at such an important time meant a lot to our family. Even months after the baby was born, she continued to be a caring and dependable presence, and our little one has grown to love her.

Hi! My name is Joefin Peter. I am a certified reproductive-spectrum doula (labour/birth, postpartum, fertility, loss/abortion) & sexual health educator. When we say it takes a village to raise a child, we often forget that it actually takes a village to support new parents. I hope to be a part of your community! In my opinion, creating community starts with a "home away from home". I have a passion for supporting diasporic families, third-culture kids, and immigrants like myself. My specialty is blending science and cultural practices. Racialized individuals can feel isolated and helpless as a result of immigration, acculturation, and individualization. These feelings are then magnified when dealing with sexual & reproductive health. This is where I come in! I aim to be a reliable source of education, support, and comfort. I operate from a feminist, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed lens.

We feel incredibly lucky to have had Joefin as our doula by our side during this journey.During the prenatal phase, she spent quality time walking us through different scenarios both smooth and challenging that could arise on delivery day. This helped us feel mentally prepared and confident. She also explained the doula guide in detail with practical examples and worked closely with me to create a clear and thoughtful birth plan.On the day of delivery, she arrived at the hospital at 5 AM and was an absolute pillar of support during active labour. She worked seamlessly alongside the nurses and guided me through various birthing positions, constantly adapting to what would help most. She was very attentive to my well-being and offered real-time suggestions that made a big difference.Postpartum, she visited us again, spent time with the baby, clicked some beautiful pictures with us, and shared practical tips on handling a newborn. Most importantly, she reassured us and instilled confidence that we were doing well as new parents. Her calm presence, knowledge, and genuine care made this entire experience so much more positive for us. We couldn’t have asked for a better support system.

Hello expecting families! My name is Char and I am a Birth/Postpartum Doula, Prenatal Yoga Instructor and currently enrolled in a Childbirth Educator course. Ive supported families through the DSABC and DAFGP. I was a community Doula with Indigenous Health (VCH) and was a Pregnancy outreach worker with BFL. I taught in group, focused on 1:1 sessions and supported Prenatal and Postpartum groups. I worked in healthcare for 9-years, mainly in administration. I supported an array of practitioners working with western medicine, holistic and traditional medicine. This experience allows me to work as a supporting bridge between both worlds, whether you are planning a hospital or home birth. How I show up in this work has a lot to do with my upbringing. I really enjoy care taking for mom during birth and postpartum, as I know it such a beautiful but sensitive time. My nurturing care was taught by my late mother, who I think was an unofficial doula herself. I learned how to tend to others through gentle touch, as my mom would give me massages growing up, when the children were unwell. I learned my calming essence from the relaxing environment my mom would create, the sound of soothing music in the morning, the added touches of nature in the home and the smell of incense burning. My love of teaching also ensures that you leave our sessions being informed and hopefully more confident!

Charlene provided the perfect experience and covered all of my needs! She's incredibly prepared to coach through coping measures, keep the environment calm, and provide comfort! When I was at my most vulnerable she still treated me with dignity. She passed no judgment and really helped me get through a difficult time. I'm grateful to have had someone so calm and gentle to be with me on such an important day. I cannot stress enough how amazing she is. Everyone needs a Charlene for their birth experience.

Hey my name is Santaya, I am a Birth doula.I work as a pregnancy coach while also being a personal trainer for delivery. I work with families to help them achieve their goals for birth. This means i meet with patients (and families) twice during pregnancy to go over needs and goals for clients birth plans. During my clients pregnancy i visit them every trimester to do a check up. In these visits i go over what to expect within that trimester and answer any of the patients questions. I also track the pregnancy in a book that i give to the patient after delivery. I offer business hours on call support to my clients. This means i will be available from 9 am-5pm for physical support, emotional support and informational support via text or call. I help assist/coach my clients with delivery at the hospital however long that may be.I don't have to do shift change. I am present during labor till a few hours after.I help support clients that decide on natural birth, epidural or C section. Postpartum clients usually feel they no longer need men after a couple hours. Most times this is natural for the family unit to adjust and adapt to normal everyday life. However, I also offer packages for postpartum newborn aftercare where I can assist with breastfeeding and overnight care of the newborn. My passion in life is the celebration of mothers. Working with women and helping women build their families THIER way. Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you feel you are in need of a doula please reach out. Preparing to welcome our first baby while being relatively new in the Netherlands was daunting. Though the country provides excellent prenatal and delivery support, Syllona stood out as an invaluable guide, filling the gaps in our understanding, offering clarity, and providing the emotional support we deeply needed. From the very beginning, Syllona took the time to understand our knowledge, concerns, and expectations. She identified areas where we lacked confidence and equipped us with practical tools, especially for pain management during labor. Her guidance empowered both of us (partner and mom) to approach delivery with confidence, knowing what to expect and how to navigate each step. Syllona’s preparation was thorough and personalized. She helped us define her role and my role as the partner, ensuring we were aligned and ready. When the challenging moment of delivery arrived, her presence was reassuring. She seamlessly stepped in when needed, allowing me to support my partner fully, while she provided expert care and encouragement. Her support didn’t end with delivery. In those exhausting early days, Syllona’s help allowed us to rest, knowing our baby was in loving and capable hands. Those few extra hours of sleep make all the difference :) We truly believe our experience would have been much harder without Syllona. She didn’t just offer support. She helped us navigate the process with confidence and care. We’re so grateful for everything she did during this important time.

De’Angela is truly a gift. From the very beginning, she made me feel seen, supported, and cared for in a way that went far beyond the basics. She brings this calm, grounding energy that makes even the overwhelming moments feel manageable. She listens deeply, shows up consistently, and advocates with so much heart. What I love most is how genuine she is — she doesn’t just “do the job,” she connects. She encouraged me, reminded me of my own strength, and made sure I never felt alone in my journey. Any family would be lucky to have her by their side. I cannot recommend De’Angela enough. She’s compassionate, knowledgeable, dependable, and an absolute powerhouse of support.

I have lived in the West Shore area of Victoria, BC (specifically Metchosin) for my entire life. My whole family is here and I love that I can spend so much time with them. I am extremely family-oriented and spend the majority of my free time with them. I live with my partner and our two young children in a beautiful home only a few minutes away from Victoria General Hospital (convenient!). I consider myself to be an introvert and love all things quiet! Reading, writing, painting, watching movies or my favourite binge-able TV shows (talk to me about 'New Girl' and you'll have a friend for life! #Nick&JessForever). Also a big-time Disney adult (no shame). I love all things Disney, especially DISNEYLAND. I can (and will) go on about it for hours. Don't get me started if you want me to stop at some point. I have always (literally always. Since I was a young child.) been fascinated by pregnancy and the birth experience. While other students dreaded the infamous "sex talk", I counted down the days. While other students were mortified during family planning class to watch a woman give birth, I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. How incredible. How miraculous. Still, I never gave much thought to how I could work it into my own life, apart from "I really want to be a mom some day. I can't wait to experience this for myself.". I graduated from Belmont Senior Secondary in 2013 and have done a variety of jobs since then. Retail, fast food, grocery stores, even a call centre (for a week- that was not for me). In 2016, I started the Community, Family, and Child Studies program at Camosun College and discovered my love for helping people. The field I was happiest in was in childcare. I obtained my ECEA in 2018 and have worked in various daycares, as a private in-home nanny, and at before and after school programs ever since. In 2023, I obtained my ECE certificate from Pacific Rim Early Childhood Institute and went on to be the room lead at a 3-5 preschool, and then onto becoming a part of the management team at a brand new trauma-informed Indigenous childcare centre. I was part of the grand opening there and was so fortunate to receive some incredible learning about various Indigenous cultures, languages, history, etc. as well as trauma-informed training. However, since becoming a mom, I have realized just how challenging a job in childcare is when you have young kids at home. It's A LOT. I decided I needed a change in careers and I thought, how cool would it be if I could turn my passion, values, and interests into a career? After I accompanied one of my dear friends during the birth of her first child, I knew exactly what that career should be. That experience was so eye-opening in so many ways. First of all- what a beautiful and miraculous moment! I could watch a mother meet her new baby for the first time a million times and never get tired of it. Second, I saw first-hand what was missing in the hospital during her experience- and that was personalized and compassionate care, unwavering emotional support, and someone to make sure she was fully aware of what was happening to her during those scary moments. After that, I immediately started looking into Doula courses and fell in love with it. This is what I was meant to do. This is my calling. The ability to provide support and care to mothers, fathers, parents, and families in these life-changing moments is an honour that is not lost on me. I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to do what I love and to love what I do. Thank you so much for allowing me into your homes, your lives, and your sacred space. And for taking the time to get to know a little bit about me. I can't wait to get to know you too!
