Ms. Jen has been my doula for two babies and my terrific experience with her during the first led me to hire her again as soon as I found out I was pregnant with the second! My husband and I are both physicians with fairly demanding schedules hence we needed someone professional and reliable with a track record of excellence and Ms. Jen was that person. Upon our meet and greet with her, we were immediately put at ease and knew our little one was in great hands. Ms. Jen truly loves babies and knows a lot about them! As a first-time mom, Ms. Jen not only provided night care for my little one but provided me with many helpful tips and tricks to master breastfeeding/pumping, sleep training and overall life hacks. These proved invaluable as my second baby was born at 28 weeks requiring preemie experience, and more individualized care. Once again, Ms. Jen stepped on board with a wealth of experience with premature babies providing my husband and I with a lot of support and reassurance especially as I transitioned back to medicine full-time. We certainly could not have done it without her! Now Ms. Jen regularly babysits my 3 and 1 year old, it has been a joy having her grow with our family. My kids adore her and we have recommended her to several physician friends who have spoken very highly of their experience with her. She was and has continued to be an incredibly asset to our family!

Hi, I’m Sai, a birth and postpartum doula, infant care specialist, and mom of four. My journey into this work began through my own lived experience with postpartum depression and anxiety, which opened my eyes to how deeply parents need support during pregnancy, birth, and the transition into parenthood, and how often they’re expected to navigate it alone. For over five years, I’ve supported families through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period with compassionate, nonjudgmental, and evidence-based care. As a birth doula, I provide emotional support, education, advocacy, comfort measures, and a calming presence throughout labor and delivery, helping families feel informed, empowered, and supported every step of the way. My postpartum work focuses on newborn care, recovery support, feeding guidance, and helping parents adjust with confidence during those early weeks at home. Before becoming a doula, I spent more than 15 years working with children as a special education teacher assistant and childcare supervisor, which gave me a strong foundation in infant development, family-centered care, and supporting children with diverse needs. I’m especially passionate about maternal mental health, birth equity, and ensuring that every parent, regardless of background, has access to respectful, nurturing care throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Being part of BornBir feels like a natural extension of my mission, and I’m grateful to grow within a community that centers families, advocacy, and healing.

As new parents, entrusting someone with the overnight care of our newborn was a major leap of faith. We were blessed to find Ossai. She was not only loving, attentive and nurturing to our baby girl - she made us both feel very at ease, and was helpful and supportive toward my wife in so many ways as far as her postpartum needs. Ossai is a great communicator, and sent us a detailed text every morning just before leaving, detailing the past night. Above all else, Ossai is just a naturally warm and comforting person. She led with love, cared for all of us, and is welcome back in our home anytime.

Eunice is supporting us as a night doula for our newborn, and she has been incredible from the very beginning. In those first couple of weeks, she not only cared for our daughter but also helped us fine-tune feeding amounts, adjust timing, and better understand our baby’s cues. Her guidance made such a difference. Our nights are now much more restful, and our daughter (now two months old) is sleeping more consistently and becoming more independent. Eunice is dependable, communicative, attentive, and truly attuned to our baby’s needs. Our little one is always happy to see her and continues to sleep more regularly through the night. We truly would not have enjoyed this newborn stage as much without her. We’re so grateful for everything she’s done for our family.

As a first-time mom, I was fortunate to have Cheyenne as my homebirth and postpartum doula, and to also benefit from her placenta encapsulation services. Her expertise and holistic approach put me at ease throughout the entire process, and her commitment to educating me was invaluable. Cheyenne provided exceptional prenatal care, offering guidance and addressing my concerns with utmost patience. During labor and delivery, she ensured that I felt supported, while Cree provided emotional support for both my partner and me, capturing breathtaking photos that we will cherish forever. What stood out most was their dedication to making me feel comfortable, their willingness to address all my questions, and their unwavering support in overcoming my childbirth fears. The family-oriented care I received from Cheyenne and Cree made the experience even more special. Hi I'm Kyndal! My path into postpartum care began in 2017 as a nanny for families with newborns. I had the privilege of growing alongside many families during their baby's first year of life, most of them first-time parents. While I loved caring for newborns, I quickly realized my true passion was educating and supporting parents as they transitioned from the hospital to home. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of families, including those welcoming premature babies, growing their families through adoption or surrogacy, and, most recently, caring for twins and multiples, a specialty that has become one of my most recent favorites. In 2021, I completed my training through Newborn Care Solutions to become a Newborn Care Specialist, allowing me to deepen my knowledge and provide even more comprehensive support to families. Then, in 2024, while working with a family on newborn sleep, I was given the opportunity to pursue my certification as a Postpartum Doula. After becoming certified, I retired from full-time nannying to dedicate my career exclusively to overnight postpartum care. My career and entrepreneurial journey have uniquely positioned me to support families beyond the traditional six-week postpartum period. Rather than offering short-term care, I work with families for 16 to 21 weeks. This extended support allows us to establish healthy newborn sleep habits from the very beginning while giving parents a trusted newborn guide they can rely on during one of the biggest transitions of their lives. My goal is to support your entire family, not just your baby. From your in-home newborn care and postpartum preparation class during pregnancy to my very last overnight, I am there to support your physical recovery, emotional well-being, and growing confidence as a parent. I don't believe my role ends when things become more challenging. Babies change quickly, and every stage brings new questions, new routines, and new adjustments. I want to walk alongside your family through those changes, helping you troubleshoot, adapt, and discover what works best for your unique home. When my time with your family comes to an end, my hope is that you don't feel overwhelmed or uncertain. Instead, I want you to feel rested, supported, educated, If you're looking for a postpartum doula who prioritizes your recovery while helping your baby build healthy sleep habits from the very beginning, I'd love to connect. I specialize in long-term support, partnering with families for a minimum of 16 weeks to create lasting routines and confidence.

My name is Shakila Marando, and I am the founder of DOULAS by the BAY. I am a mother of two and have spent over 25 years working with children and families, including the last 17 years supporting families as a doula through pregnancy, birth, and the early newborn days. This work comes from a deep belief that no family should ever feel alone during this journey. I work closely alongside our team of doulas, sharing the same commitment to compassionate, evidence-based care. Together, we have supported thousands of families across Northern and Southern California, providing steady guidance, reassurance, and hands-on support when it matters most. Our doulas are carefully selected, certified, and deeply cared for. Every team member is Birth and Postpartum Certified, Perinatal Mood Disorders Certified, CPR trained, HIPAA compliant, fully vetted, and insured. With ongoing mentorship and professional development, we ensure families receive safe, reliable, and heart-centered care in their homes. I created DOULAS by the BAY to build a trusted, supportive space where families feel seen, informed, and confident—while expanding access to doula care and strengthening our community, one family at a time.

Recent review

Shakila is the best there is. We did not have a night doula for our first child. For our second, we needed one because I had to go back to work right away. I was very nervous about leaving my baby with someone else during the night hours, particularly at just two weeks. Shakila let me control as much of the process as I wanted to so I always felt like she was doing what I wanted. She has a magical touch with babies and had our daughter sleeping through the night by two months old. She would not even leave in the morning until the baby was back to sleep, which allowed us an extra hour of sleep on top of the time she was with us. She was worth every penny and then some. THANK YOU SHAKILA! We miss you.

I love writing reviews, but only for people who truly deserve it — and Suzi Schwartz absolutely does! We hired Suzi to help with potty training our daughter, and I honestly cannot thank her enough. Suzi is incredibly knowledgeable, with years of experience, and the moment she explained what was going on and shared her tips, everything finally made sense. I had tried potty training twice on my own before and felt like I failed each time. The third time, I wanted to make sure I didn’t fail again — so I hired Suzi, and it was the best decision. After just one month, my daughter was fully potty trained. She started at 2 years 3 months old and was completely trained by 2 years 4 months. Suzi made the whole process smooth, supported us the entire time, and truly set us up for success. Thank you so much, Suzi. It was wonderful working with you, and I’m so grateful for the amazing outcome!

Hi, I’m Samantha! I’m a certified postpartum doula and newborn care specialist supporting families throughout Southern California. My approach is warm, hands-on, and education-focused. I’m there to care for your baby, of course, but just as importantly, to make sure you feel supported, rested, informed, and more confident in your own instincts as you settle into life with a newborn. I have experience supporting newborns, twins, first-time parents, and growing families, and I tailor my care to what each household actually needs. That may look like overnight newborn care, feeding and sleep support, detailed newborn logs, postpartum recovery support, helping partners feel more involved, or simply being the calm, knowledgeable person in the room when everything feels new. My goal is never to take over your family’s experience—it’s to make the transition smoother and leave you feeling more capable than when I arrived.

Recent review

I truly can’t say enough good things about Sam. Those first weeks with newborn twins were intense, and she brought so much calm and structure into our home. She kept detailed notes every night on each baby’s feeds, diapers, sleep, and anything she noticed, and before pediatrician appointments she helped us organize what was actually worth mentioning or asking about. She cared for me and my husband in ways I honestly didn’t expect either. She did foot soaks, gave me massages, and would even comb and braid my hair when I was too exhausted to think about taking care of myself. She made sure he ate, got fresh air, and felt appreciated too. Those little things made us feel human again. One of my favorite things about her was how intentional she was with our older son. He was struggling with suddenly having two new babies in the house, and Sam never treated him like he was being difficult. She created little opportunities for him to bond with his brothers, gave him special jobs, and made him feel like he had a mission. You could actually see him becoming proud of his role as their big brother. I miss her all the time. We still have a photo of all of us with Sam on our refrigerator, and I think that says everything. She became such a special part of our family during a season we will never forget.

Joefin Peter

13 years of experience

Hey, my name is Joefin (a.k.a. 10oclockjoefi). I am a certified birth and postpartum doula, and a certified sexual health educator. I provide education and support in Tamil and English! I have been doing this for 13 years, typically supporting first-time birthing people, racialized or immigrant families, or survivors. I like to describe my role as being there for your head and heart. While pregnant, I help you prepare for life as a parent, work with you to approach birth with confidence, and empower your support system to help you through the moment. Labour should be a purposeful yet manageable experience for you. One where you have control over the moment. After birth, I provide practical, informational, emotional, and social support. If you’re looking for a reliable cheerleader in your corner, I’m the childbirth educator or postpartum doula for you. I am a third culture kid who grew up in the United Arab Emirates and Canada so I have a special place in my heart for anyone who shares in the diaspora experience. I know firsthand the unique challenges this poses in major life transitions. I trained in Chennai, India with an OBGYN in providing pregnancy and postpartum support to parents in a culturally aware manner. I came back to Canada with that knowledge, learned about the Canadian labour/delivery system, and began supporting immigrant and refugee families through childbirth education and health systems navigation. This has shaped my practical approach to parental support and newborn care. Drawing from my biology and psychology education, I bring a matter-of-fact yet empathetic approach to everything I do. I conducted research on how intersectional identities impact sexual distress and my paper has been published in the Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality! Given my areas of expertise, I have a passion for myth busting and science communication as a means to combat misinformation. This often empowers parents to make informed decisions while avoiding unnecessary pressures. My lived experiences make me passionate about supporting parents as they create happier, healthier, and safer childhoods for their babies.

Joefin was our postpartum doula for the first three months after our second baby was born, and I genuinely can’t say enough wonderful things about her. Having her support during those early months made such a difference for our whole family. She has such a calm, warm, reassuring presence and seemed to intuitively know what I needed, whether that was help with the baby, a chance to rest, practical support around the house, or simply having someone there who understood how intense the postpartum period can be. I always felt completely comfortable leaving the baby with her so I could sleep, shower, or have a little time to myself, which was invaluable. She was also absolutely wonderful with our older daughter. She made such an effort to connect with her and make her feel included and special during a huge transition for our family. Our daughter adored her, and it meant so much to have someone who understood that supporting us postpartum meant supporting our older child, too. She was even fantastic with our dog and fit so naturally into the rhythm of our home. Joefin is kind, thoughtful, dependable, and incredibly caring. She never made things feel clinical or intrusive; it genuinely felt like having an extra pair of capable, loving hands in our home. She took care of all of us, not just the baby, and made those first few months feel so much more manageable. We feel incredibly lucky that Joefin was part of our postpartum experience. I would recommend her without hesitation to any family looking for a postpartum doula. She was such an important part of our baby’s first months and our transition to becoming a family of four, and we’ll always be grateful for the care she gave us.
