Hayden was a wonderful doula to have at my first birth. Her experience with a TENS unit, acupressure points, and applying counter pressure during all my contractions was crucial to my smooth labor. She kept track of all my contractions and when they began to get farther apart she encouraged me to start walking. She also coached my husband and sister on counter pressure so they could help me as well. Hayden’s calm presence helped keep me stable and focused throughout the day and I’m so thankful that she could guide me through my first birth!

Choosing a doula was an unknown for us, but from the moment we started our interview process with Maggie, we were immediately put at ease. She spent almost an hour actively listening to our needs and wants during our initial consultation, which spoke volumes about her dedication. She took the time to know us well and work through our family's birth preferences, shared recommendations for local acupuncturists and body workers, responded to any and all queries so quickly, and made sure we were equipped to advocate for ourselves when it came time to birth. When the hospital we had planned to birth at was on divert last minute, Rachel was a grounding presence and a very welcome familiar face throughout some unexpected twists and turns. In reflecting on our birth, we tell everybody that Rachel was a critical player in our positive birth experience, as she led the way in guiding us through an intense labor and helping baby move into a better position to make his grand entrance - my husband and I both believe things would have gone very differently had we not had Rachel by our sides. After birth, we struggled with initiating breastfeeding and Rachel sprung into action to connect us with a local lactation counselor, donor milk, and generally provided such compassionate reassurances. She's become a friend and the kind of person every single birthing person and family should have in their corner as they navigate these transformative experiences. Cannot recommend Rachel enough!

"Most of us did not learn when we were young that our capacity to be self-loving would be shaped by the work we do and whether that work enhances our well-being." – bell hooks. This is a quote that has stuck with me as I explore my career path. Becoming a doula is something I did not follow through with until the murder of George Floyd. Seeing the striking images of pregnant Black mothers protesting around the country ignited the fire in me to finally complete my training to become a certified perinatal educator - meaning I can provide childbirth education, prenatal support, labor and delivery support, lactation support, and newborn care support. But my calling to birth work started on the day I was born with my mother being hospitalized for 2 months postpartum from an avoidable mistake during an emergency c-section. I value empathy, collaboration, and being open minded. As a doula, I am intentional about serving my clients in a way that supports self-empowerment, so they feel they have all the information they feel they need to make the best decision for them and their baby/babies. I do not shy away from vulnerability, and I believe this allows me to have relationships with my clients built on trust.

Tricia was a helpful, knowledgeable face from the very first call we had with her during my pregnancy. She provided us with great resources through the pregnancy and was amazing during the labor process. A handful of things about my labor didn’t go the way I had wanted or had planned but having her by my side meant everything to both my husband and I. Amanda was wonderful to work with! In addition to supporting us during labor, we had an initial consultation with her, two meetings before the birth and one meeting postpartum. She is knowledgeable about labor and the postpartum experience. We are first time parents, and she was able to answer our questions as well as offer extra resources and helpful tips. She is very supportive of mothers’ birthing preferences. We opted for a natural labor experience at a birth center, and she was very familiar with that environment. It was also important to us to have a doula who shares our Christian faith and could believe with us for an uncomplicated, beautiful birth (which we had)! I didn’t get a worship playlist put together ahead of time, but Amanda had one ready to go. She offered to braid my hair during labor which ended up being wonderful for labor and the first 48 hours postpartum! She has a calm, nurturing presence. Some other things she did to support us during labor were apply cold washcloths, provide pressure through hip squeezes, and give verbal encouragement. She also picked up our lunch for us post-delivery and thoughtfully brought us home-made treats at our postpartum visit. We are so glad that we went with Amanda as our doula and highly recommend her!
