I have always been interested in birth. My mom used to teach childbirth classes at the hospital when I was little, and I always loved going with her. I got pregnant at 17 and had to deliver at a birthing center due to financial reasons. I was TERRIFIED to give birth without any medications. Long story short I did it and I felt so empowered! Labor and delivery was my FAVORITE unit but I knew that, that was not the way I wanted to help birthing people. As my own family grew my desire to have an out of hospital birth increased. With my fourth and fifth pregnancies I was able to fulfil those desires with my sister acting as my doula. With the level of care I received I knew that being a birth worker was where I could help!
