Hello. My name is Alicia and I am a certified birth and postpartum doula in Reno NV. I provide emotional, educational, and physical support during pregnancy, at birth, and postpartum, through a transitional and sacred time in a parent's life. As a postpartum doula, I offer lactation support, if that's what you would like. I run interference with sleep issues. You can take a nap, and I can hold your baby. But there's also a lot of information in those sessions about postpartum life, such as how to give your baby their first bath or how to change diapers. I would also love to help with some light cleaning, bottle prepping, and baby laundry. I believe that there is not one right way to parent. Parenting with love, the knowledge of primal health and with evidenced based information may look different family to family. Parents are capable of choosing what is best for their own family. I grew up in the high desert hills of Reno, Nevada, but as a wanderer at heart, spent many years traveling and living abroad until I landed in New York City. I worked in NYC for 7 years and am now based in Reno again as of March 2022. I am continually inspired by the landscapes of the desert and the sea! I first discovered the power of mind-body medicine through Yoga after spine surgery as a teen, which influenced my search for effective care in my own struggle with reproductive health issues. This search brought me to the study of ancient healing modalities as well as nutrition, herbal medicine and energy work. I earned a master’s degree in Integrative Health Studies, with a focus on women’s/reproductive health, at the California Institute of Integral Studies in 2015 (my master’s thesis was about infertility and spirituality). Doula work came as natural complement to my master's program as I had been supporting children and families since I was a child, nannying my way through high school and college. I initially signed up for a doula training as a way to learn more about birth culture and supporting pregnancy, but after attending my first birth knew that it was a perfect blend of all of my interests and skills. Studying and sharing fertility and pregnancy wellbeing is my passion! My goal is to offer a calm, unbiased presence and to facilitate positive reproductive experiences by connecting people to practical, evidence-based information as well as their own inner wisdom. Hi there! I’m Jessie! I’m glad you’re here and I’m happy to share a bit of how I got to where I am. Throughout my pregnancy and utilizing the resources my doula shared with me, I found that I had many more options and choices I could make about how I started my parenting journey based on my values and having my birth team who I trusted and honored my values as well. It was with my birth team, which included my midwife, doula, and husband, that I brought two beautiful boys earth-side in my own home. Pregnancy and birth is a healthy, natural and normal process. Expecting parents deserve to proceed with their pregnancy and birth knowing their options and not feeling judged for making decisions based on their preferences and values. I felt empowered through my own experiences and so I’ve starting out this doula journey with a desire to help pregnant women learn about their choices and feel empowered in their own journeys.
