I attended my first birth more than 25 years ago and very soon after began actively pursuing birthwork, trading off between midwifery apprenticeships and serving independently as a doula. Given my background, I'm a strong believer in individual family autonomy, true informed consent, and holistic continuity of care that includes extensive postpartum attention. I'm also quite the baby whisperer, even while they're still in the belly. In my free time, I enjoy gardening, cooking, going on long walks, and taking even longer naps. I'm best known for my authenticity, tenacity, quick wit, and contagious laugh.

Hola! My name is Micaela López, and I’m a holistic birth and postpartum doula with over 8 years of experience walking alongside families on their sacred birthing journey. Before stepping into birth work, I spent 15 years as an educator in both public and private schools. In 2018, I followed the call of my soul into the path of birth and trained as a birth doula with Doula Love in Portland. Since then, I’ve deepened my practice through midwifery assistant training with the Center for Indigenous Midwifery in Washington and a transformative year-long apprenticeship with midwife Cosima. I am trained in Reiki and reflexology and while I was in massage school I took classes in pregnancy massage and labor massage. Sometimes we want to think we can control what our birth will look like but the little bundle inside doesn't always listen and so I want to be there to help everyone involved reach the goal. I left the nursing world after seeing the effects it had on laboring women and families having to build that rapport with the care team each appointment, shift changes and I did not like that.
