The cost of a midwife in Downingtown, PA can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Pennsylvania Medicaid covers prenatal visits, delivery, and postpartum care provided by certified nurse-midwives, as federal rules require this benefit in every state. Payment for licensed or certified professional midwives at home or birth-center deliveries depends on the Medicaid plan and does not apply to every member. Around Downingtown, the market is modest, with three midwives listed within 60 miles. Private insurance coverage varies, so review your plan’s midwifery and birth-setting benefits.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

When considering hiring a midwife in Downingtown, PA, it's advisable to research and interview several midwives to find one who aligns with your birth plan, preferences, and budget. During consultations, you can discuss their specific services, insurance acceptance, and pricing structure to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is included and the associated costs.

Hi I'm Chris! I'm super passionate about all things birth. I'm a birth and postpartum doula and a lactation councelor. I have 4 grown children, I was a sign language interpreter many years ago, and worked in a local church for 20 years. I was incredibly nieve and uninformed when I had my children and it is my hearts desire to support moms through pregnancy and birth as well as those first few months after baby is born. I have no preconcieved notions as to how your birth should or should not go. I believe in supporting you in the way that fits you the best while informing you of all your options. I am excited to be following my passion and I look forward to sharing it with you.

Chris was my birth doula, and let me say I would not have had the confidence to do an unmedicated birth as a first time mom without her support, knowledge, and guidance. Chris is EXTREMELY passionate about what she does and it is evident upon any interaction with her. She provided me with many tools to use not only while in labor, but also for pregnancy, breastfeeding, and postpartum. She made herself available to answer any questions I had, even post birth. She is tremendously supportive to any and all decisions you as a mom-to-be. She will not try to persuade you into something else. She makes it very clear it is YOUR birth and she is there to fully support you! If you are considering using Chris as a doula…please don’t think twice!! She is an incredible person..the sweetest woman you will ever meet and extremely knowledgeable! Thank you Chris!!!!

Iyonia was such a blessing as my doula. She was so informative, made us feel comfortable and confident about going into labor with a plan (and a plan b, c , d… and so on) to have the labor experience me and my husband wanted while also managing our expectations (very important)! I felt alone and lost during the birth of my first born. I felt like we were isolated and kind of “rushed” through the experience. But Iyonia made sure I, (and my support team) knew my RIGHTS as a patient, the birthing options available to us, and a plan to avoid the things that I was unhappy about with my first birth. You don’t know what you don’t know, so she made sure we knew what ask for. One experience I will always hold close to my heart was after my husband went to be with the baby after my c-section, she stayed with me, held my hand and continued to give me encouraging words at a time when emotions (and hormones) were about to get the best of me! I will always appreciate her for that. It made a huge difference.

Second time client of Tias! I first used Tia's services 2 years ago where I was successful with my first medicated VBAC birth. As soon as I received my positive pregnancy test with my third baby, I KNEW Tia was going to be hired again! Even my husband, who was first against hiring a doula, was quick to ask if I already contacted Tia when I announced to him our 3rd pregnancy :) Tia did it again! She was the support I knew I needed for this 3rd birth and with her encouragement and belief in me, I was able to have an unmedicated 2VBAC! According to my husband, this is our last baby haha so I wanted to take advantage of Tia's placenta print she offers. I am so happy I decided on that because Tia made us the most beautiful placenta print which incorporated all three of our children. If another baby were to magically happen for me in the future, Tia will OF COURSE be hired again, without a question! And anyone I know in need of support for their births in the future, I will without a doubt recommend Tia. Thank you TIA!!!

I had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with Casey during a recent birth, and I was absolutely blown away by her compassion, intuition, and expertise. She knew exactly what her client needed in each moment, offering unwavering support, reassurance, and care. As a prenatal chiropractor, I was honored to assist alongside her, and it was amazing to see how seamlessly she guided the birthing process. Her ability to create a calm, empowering space for her client was truly inspiring, and I can’t wait to work together on more births in the future! I cannot say enough wonderful things about OS Care Service. From the very beginning, Olga made me feel supported, informed, and truly cared for. Her calm presence and deep knowledge helped ease my anxieties throughout my pregnancy and especially during labor. She provided not only physical comfort techniques but also emotional support that made such a difference in my birthing experience. Olga was attentive, patient, and always available when I had questions or needed reassurance. After the birth, her newborn care support was just as incredible—she helped me feel more confident as a new parent and made the transition so much smoother. If you are looking for someone who is compassionate, professional, and genuinely passionate about what she does, I highly recommend OS Care Service. Having Olga as my doula was one of the best decisions I made for myself and my baby.
