My path into birth work was shaped by my own experiences navigating infertility, pregnancy, and two very different births that transformed the way I care for others today. I know firsthand how vulnerable, emotional, and powerful this season of life can be, and I’m passionate about making sure every family feels deeply seen, heard, and supported throughout their journey into parenthood. Childcare and working with families has been my career for over thirteen years. Since 2011, I have had the privilege of supporting a wide range of families, caring for children from newborns to twelve years of age in both private homes and early years settings. Alongside my childcare career, I am currently completing my certifications as a birth and postpartum doula and child sleep consultant, and I am also studying to become a birth and lactation coach. These areas of study allow me to further expand my knowledge of pregnancy, birth, postpartum adjustment, infant development, breastfeeding and lactation, responsive sleep, and family support. I am passionate about supporting families through the many stages of parenthood, from the early newborn days through childhood. Along the way, I have intentionally sought opportunities that have broadened my experience, from private nanny positions and family support roles to early childhood education, leadership, and operating my own licensed childcare business. My approach is centered on providing calm, consistent, and emotionally responsive care. I believe children flourish when they feel genuinely seen, safe, and respected, and I strive to create environments where they can develop confidence, independence, social skills, curiosity, and resilience. My practice is informed by attachment theory and trauma informed principles, always recognizing that every child is unique and deserves care that reflects their individual needs and family values. My experience includes caring for infants, toddlers, school aged children, twins, siblings, and groups of up to 24 children, as well as supporting children with additional physical, developmental, emotional, and behavioural needs. I am equally comfortable managing the changing routines of a busy household as I am planning enriching activities, supporting school readiness, encouraging outdoor exploration, or providing a quiet, reassuring presence during more challenging moments. Alongside childcare, I take pride in contributing to the smooth running of a family home. I am experienced with meal preparation, wardrobe management, laundry, organization, appointment scheduling, school runs, errands, travel preparation, and maintaining tidy, welcoming spaces. I am confident accommodating vegan, vegetarian, dairy free, and allergy conscious diets. I hold a degree in Child Development and remain committed to continuing my professional development. I maintain my First Aid and CPR certification, have completed training in childcare administration, allergy awareness, and the BC Early Learning Framework (known as the FLIGHT curriculum in Alberta), and actively seek opportunities to continue learning throughout my career. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, swimming, reading, dancing, and arts and crafts. These are activities I enjoy sharing with children, whether that means spending time outdoors, discovering new books, or testing out new ways to be creative. Above all, I understand the importance of safety, trust, discretion, and reliability. I am a non smoker, fluent in both English and Spanish, have a reliable vehicle and a clean driving record, am comfortable travelling with families, experienced caring for pets, and at ease working within professionally managed households, including those with security systems and in-home cameras. Hi my name is Madi, and I’m a mixed Acadian/Migmaw birth and end-of-life doula in the Edmonton area. I decided to become a birth worker and end-of-life doula because I believe every single person deserves an advocate. Every person deserves autonomy and the right to make decisions. Every person should be allowed access to traditional medicines. Trained through DONA, I have practiced as a birth worker for about two years. I have serviced births in every Edmonton hospital, and I have experience with at home water births. Birthing to me is a sacred act that should be seen as just that - sacred. It is beautiful, incredibly difficult, joyful and life-changing. When it comes to my end-of-life, I have been certified as an Indigenous End of Life doula via Lifting Their Minds End-of-Life Indigenous Doula Training. In addition to her current doula certifications, Brittney has a passionate focus on VBAC clients. As a mother of two miracle boys, Brittney defied odds after surviving leukemia in 2010 when she was told she may never conceive. Grounded in her Christian faith and through the power of prayer, Brittney's determination, patience, and a profound emotional struggle ultimately led to the conception of her first child. Facing numerous medical interventions during her cancer battle, Brittney recognized the importance of reclaiming control over her body during childbirth. Despite a first birth ending in a c-section, the overall prenatal, labor, and postpartum experience remained positive, thanks to the support of a wonderful midwife and labor companion. For her second birth, she achieved an empowering home water birth with the assistance of her midwife and doula. Brittney firmly believes in the strength and power of all women to manifest the birth they envision. As a doula, her goal is to provide unwavering support, fostering a peaceful birthing environment that transforms this experience into a moment of empowerment.
