Hi! I’m a birth doula serving the greater Fredericksburg (NOVA) area. I am certified through A Woman Who Serves Doula Training (AWWS) and I am honored to be a part of the community of support for women and their journey into motherhood! I have been working in the perinatal support field since July 2020 as a breastfeeding peer counselor and then as a birth doula. My own experiences with birth and breastfeeding led me to birth work—I was inspired to support others the way I had been supported. Birth and parenthood has a way of helping us discover strengths we didn't know we had. It is the greatest honor of my life to help my clients find their own strength along their unique journey into parenthood.

My name is Deborah Bennett i am a Certified Postpartum Doula, certified Home Health Aide, experienced Newborn Care Specialist and certified in Adult and Pediatric CPR and First Aid, experienced in assisting families in the fourth trimester. Experienced in assisting with sleep training. I like working in the Virginia area. But i don't mind traveling for jobs. I have assisted 23 families so far in New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Texas and California. I am from Jamaica and currently live in Virginia with my husband. I believe that with the right sensitive approach and careful assistance, a family can quickly adjust to their new addition to their family. I started my journey as a doula in 2021 while finishing my last semester at VCU with my Bachelors in Health Sciences. I started with Birth In Color RVA as an intern finishing my requirements for graduation and left my internship ….as a doula ! Working as a doula is truly such a rewarding field as I am allowed the opportunity to create a safe space for my clients to be vulnerable, empowered, deconstruct stigmas, and really get into their lives to optimize a safe birth as well as set them up for a successful start to parenthood. I’m a postpartum doula and placenta encapsulation specialist serving in Richmond and Henrico, VA.

I am a postpartum doula certified through DONA International, a lactation consultant trained through The Healthy Children Project, and a Ayurvedic masseur certified through The California College or Ayurveda. I’m a personal chef that specializes in postpartum nutrition and have a catalogue of frozen stews, broths and soups to choose from if you need inspiration for your meal planning. I meet prenatally to help organize the home, nursery and any other members of the support team. (Outlining responsibilities and expectations is work that is best done in advance.) I provide a newborn care class and a lactation class as well as meal prep for soups, stews and broths to be frozen. I always encourage my clients to try to book me for a visit right after the birth while in the hospital for lactation support and a modified version of my Ayurvedic massage. Once the family is home I cook nourishing foods rich in iron, protein, collagen, micro and macro nutrients to aid in recovery from depletion and help speed healing. (I also have a Postpartum Soup Bundle that can be purchased ahead of time.) I do dishes, laundry and of course provide even more lactation support. I can also simply care for the newborn while parents sleep. After the first few weeks the focus tends to shift into finding a daily rhythm, newborn care techniques and education on developmentally appropriate sleep habits for the baby. I also help parents with planning childcare help. I can be a sleep consultant one day and provide a massage the next. Maybe I play with the older children while mama naps with the newborn. Sometimes the work is just to sit and talk about all the things that the parents are struggling with. My job and my life’s joy is to simply be an extra set of hands or a sympathetic ear to new parents.

Elise is a ToLabor Certified Birth Doula, a CAPPA trained Postpartum Doula, an IPPA trained Placenta Encapsulation Specialist, and a Lamaze Trained Childbirth Educator. Elise also attended the University of Georgia and Piedmont College and holds a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies. She is a mother to Theo and Georgia and is married to Todd. She entered into the doula field after her own birth, which showed her the importance of building a supportive birth and postpartum team. She continued to add trainings to help extend her knowledge about the many facets of birth and offer assistance through the postpartum time. Those trainings and workshops include: Acupressure in pregnancy and childbirth, Perinatal Loss and Grief, and Spinning Babies Techniques. Elise believes that education and unbiased support lead to each birthing family feeling empowered and informed when making childbirth decisions. After personally enduring a battle with postpartum depression, she hopes to help her clients feel supported through the entire childbirth experience including the fourth trimester. Through her work as a birth doula and her own experience, she saw her clients have beautiful births, but still struggle with energy and emotions during the postpartum experience.
