I am looking for a midwife who provides evidence-based, holistic care and has a strong belief in the normal physiological process of pregnancy and birth. My preference is for a planned home birth, although I am also open to a freestanding or birth-center birth, especially as my husband is more comfortable with a hospital setting. I want prenatal care to feel safe, supportive, and educational. This is my first pregnancy, so I want as much education and preparation as possible—not only about pregnancy and birth, but also nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress, supplements, postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, newborn care, and how my husband can support me. I want a provider who takes the time to answer questions, explains the reasoning and evidence behind recommendations, and never makes me feel silly for asking something. My preference is for low-intervention care when pregnancy and labor are progressing normally. I hope for an unmedicated birth with freedom of movement, the ability to labor in water, different pushing positions, spontaneous pushing, immediate skin-to-skin, and my husband actively involved. I want a calm, private, cozy birth environment with as few unnecessary people and interruptions as possible. At the same time, I am not opposed to medical intervention when it is truly indicated or supported by good evidence. I want a midwife who is confident in physiologic birth but also medically competent, proactive about identifying potential problems, and willing to clearly tell me when something is outside the normal range and what we should do about it. Ultimately, I want someone who will help me and my husband understand our options and make informed decisions while advocating for what is safest for me and the baby. Because one of my biggest concerns about home birth is what would happen if something unexpected occurred, it is very important to me that my midwife have a clear hospital-transfer plan and be able to communicate with the hospital team and advocate for my birth preferences if a transfer becomes necessary. Ideally, I would want my midwife to remain involved during a transfer when possible. More than anything, I am looking for a midwife who is warm, honest, knowledgeable, calm, and trustworthy—someone who respects that my body was made to give birth while also putting the safety and well-being of my baby first.

Hi! This is our first baby and we are leaning toward a hospital birth since there are no birth centers in the area. We don't have a specific birth plan yet but want to be as natural and unmedicated as possible. Especially in a hospital setting - we don't want any of the "standard" monitoring and medicine forced on us. Wanting to do a home birth with my 4th. I will have a doula. Used a doula with my 3rd. A hoping to budget between 3-4000 if possible. I went natural with my 2nd and 3rd tho with my 2nd I was induced because I was high risk. Low risk with my 3rd and low risk with this pregnancy. I am having a boy. But do not plan on any shots, testing, or vaccinations.
