Hi, I'm Amanda Souza, a DONA-trained birth and postpartum doula based in Rochester, NY and the founder of Alma Sprout. Before becoming a doula I spent years as a professional nanny, so I bring real hands-on newborn experience into everything I do. I work with all kinds of families — I speak English and Portuguese, and I offer inclusive, affirming care for everyone. I offer birth support, daytime and overnight postpartum care, and newborn sleep guidance virtually across the US.

I am a trained birth + postpartum doula. I am also a lactation counselor and health educator originally from NJ, via NYC! I am new to the Rochester Area—I've been primarily a lactation counselor and postpartum doula since 2020, and first got trained with Ancient Song Doula Services in 2018. I attended my first birth in 2018 after 3+ years of health education. My family is from the Dominican Republic, I am fluent in Spanish, and conversational in French after 14 years of studying and understand Brazilian Portuguese a fair amount! I have dedicated my life to birth education and doula work, and hope to one day be a nurse midwife. I have a public health degree, a food handlers license and am about to renew my liability insurance which covers all but home births. I became a birth worker after experiencing 2 hard-fought laboring experiences and feeling like my options during labor were limited to what was hospital routine and whatever was financially incentavizing for my medical providers. I decided that no mom should feel like her birth doesn't belong to her; like she cannot have full bodily autonomy in her most vulnerable hours. Every mother should have the liberty to explore all of her options, including alternative coping methods and relying on her own intuition to bring forth a healthy baby.
