She has a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Kentucky. She has been involved with different community outreach programs for reproductive justice in Kentucky, such as lobbying with the Kentucky Homebirth Coalition in Frankfort and was a member and on the board of the former doula collective, Louisville Doula Project.
