I fell in love with birth work when I joined the UNMH Birth Companion program as a volunteer doula, where I supported a variety of births, including both medicated and unmedicated. Whether this is your first or fifth birth, my passion lies with being there to help you have the best experience possible. As your doula, I will provide judgement free support through education that will help guide you through your pregnancy and empower you to make informed decisions. I will also equip you with all the tools necessary to manage your labor and the birth of your baby, such as relaxation techniques, comfort measures and breathing exercises. My goal is to bring peace and tranquility to your birth space helping you to feel safe and cared for. When I’m not spending time with my family and friends, I enjoy tending my beautiful rose garden, going for long walks with my pooch and curling up with a good book! My name is Kim Racette. I have been a certified birth doula since 2010 and founder and teacher of Faithful Beginnings Birth Class. I feel honored and blessed by God to have been put on this path. I rejoice in childbirth, and I want all birthing stories to be good. My dream is that our grand-daughters and great-grand-daughters will come to have only positive stories of birth. Stories of strength and courage, stories of beauty and joy, stories that will empower them to have wonderful births of their own.

I am Whitney and pregnancy and motherhood have changed me forever in a million beautiful ways. After years of knowing I wanted to be a healer, I earned a bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of New Mexico with the original intention of going to medical school afterwards. I became disenchanted with the medical field and then became a yoga teacher and yoga studio owner as I was searching for how to fulfill my calling in integrity. Birth work finally found me after I became a mother myself and this has become my focus! Within the same year of giving birth, I became a certified doula. I am a lifelong learner who is continuing independent midwifery studies and who is in the middle of Birthkeeping school with Whapio of La Matrona. I have much to offer in my service including with yoga, meditation, essential oils, herbal remedies, homeopathy, and deep anatomical understanding. The biggest thing I want to help women with is learning how to dream big when it comes to their labors and then giving women the tools to make that dream become a bit more possible as a birth coach, educator, and doula/Birthkeeper. I recently had a very blissful labor journey with my second baby and I can't wait to help other women find similarly blissful/orgasmic/ecstatic births of their own!

The UNMH Volunteer Birth Companion Program provides volunteer doulas to all families birthing at UNM Hospital. We believe that all families have the right to excellent emotional, mental and physical support while welcoming a child into the world. The birth justice-focused program aims to provide respectful, compassionate, and non-judgmental care. We acknowledge the diversity of people and their reproductive choices and experiences. Through our work, we hope to improve birth experiences and lessen health disparities in maternity care. We are hospital volunteers who can be with you when you are in labor, when you are giving birth, and immediately afterwards. We provide physical, emotional and informational support. During labor, we can help you get the information you want and understand what medical providers are saying, including what procedures are being suggested. We also help with pain management by assisting with position changes, providing counter pressure and massage, help with breathing techniques, relaxation, visualization and more. Your birth companion can help you feel more comfortable by getting you warm blankets, a birth ball and things to eat and drink, as appropriate. We do not take the place of partners, family or friends. We help them support you. We usually stay for about an hour after you give birth. During that time, we can help with early breastfeeding We also provide support while you are pregnant by offering a prenatal meeting with one of our birth companions. We will talk to you about what you want for your labor. We can talk about pain management, common procedures and what to expect when you are on the Labor and Delivery floor.

Hi, I’m Dess- mom of three four and under, 2x Hyperemesis survivor and self proclaimed “birth witch”/“guard dog” I am a student doula training under Our Earth here in New Mexico, and am training with the APPA for my placenta encapsulation certification. I firmly believe all families deserve doula care regardless of income or spiritual background and offer spiritually based care along side my services.
