I’m Chaya, a DMV native, proud mama of three, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), student midwife, and birth worker with a deep passion for supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. My journey into birth work began in 2019 when I earned my CNA license, NRP/CPR certification, and full-spectrum doula certification. I originally entered nursing with the goal of becoming a labor and delivery nurse, but in 2020, I began apprenticing as a student and birth assistant alongside a local home birth midwife. That experience completely shifted the way I viewed birth and helped me develop a deeper appreciation for physiologic, intrinsic birth and the importance of protecting a birthing person’s autonomy. Since then, I’ve continued growing both in nursing and midwifery. I became a Licensed Practical Nurse while continuing my education toward my ultimate goal of becoming a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM). I’ve also spent several years working in a local hospital’s Labor & Delivery unit while running Nova Birth & Wellness, which has allowed me to experience birth from both the clinical and community-based sides of maternity care. As a doula, placenta encapsulation specialist, birth photographer, student midwife, nurse, and perinatal advocate, my heart has always been centered around supporting mothers during one of the most sacred and vulnerable seasons of their lives. Over the years, I’ve had the honor of attending more than 200 births in different roles, and every experience has continued to strengthen my passion for this work. While I have a special love for natural, physiologic birth, I believe there is no single “right” way to give birth. Every person deserves to feel informed, respected, supported, and in control of the decisions surrounding their body and their baby. Whether someone chooses a home birth, hospital birth, epidural, induction, cesarean, or an unmedicated birth, my role is to help them understand their options and feel confident in the path that feels right for them. Advocacy is at the core of everything I do. My goal is to create a relationship built on trust, safety, and genuine connection so my clients know they can confide in me, depend on me, and feel completely supported during such an intimate time in their lives. Many of the relationships I’ve formed with families have grown into lasting friendships, which is one of the things I value most about this work. My dream is to become a CNM and eventually open my own practice where I can provide families with compassionate, evidence-based, autonomous maternity care and offer the option of home birth—the same kind of empowering experience I was blessed to have with my own children.

Chaya was amazing for us in the delivery room. My doctors were pushing for a c-section and she stayed respectful of what I wanted while still informing me of my options (Dr's really make it sound like you have no options but what they are suggesting). She advocated for me and made me feel like I had control of my labor. My labor was stalled and I had been at 6cm for a long time and my baby wasn't in the best position. My Dr. wanted a c-section and I asked for just one more hour to see if I progressed any further. All of the Dr's and nurses left the room and Chaya took action. She went and got a nurse to come back and help her put me in different positions to see if we could get me ready. For the entire hour she directed the nurse on which positions they would do and when my Dr came back, I was 10cm with the baby in the correct position. My doctor was actually shocked and so was I! Without Chaya I definitely would have had a c-section (something I was trying to avoid). I am very grateful for her and how she encouraged and informed me throughout my entire pregnancy and labor.

I had the privilege of witnessing Tania from Birthing Boutique in action during the birth of my friend's baby at INOVA hospital, and the experience was nothing short of amazing! Throughout the labor, Tania demonstrated an impressive blend of expertise and empathy. She was an invaluable resource, not only for my friend but for the entire birthing team, seamlessly collaborating with the medical staff to ensure a safe and empowering experience. Her ability to create a serene atmosphere amidst the intensity of labor was truly remarkable. What stood out most about Tania was her unwavering support of my friend's choices. She actively listened and ensured that the birthing experience aligned with my friend's preferences, even in the face of unforeseen challenges. In addition, she anticipated needs before they arose and was a pillar of strength during tough moments. Her holistic approach, which included massages, words of affirmation, and breathing techniques, were next level! I would highly reccomend her services!

I wear many titles with pride — Wife, Mother, Lactation Specialist, Licensed Massage therapist (LIC#R03337), Student Midwife, and Author. But at the heart of it all, I’m simply someone who is devoted to women’s health, healing, and empowerment. My passion for nurturing others comes from a long line of generous souls — my mother, my grandparents, whose kindness and selflessness shaped who I am today. My grandfather devoted his life to serving his community, and my grandmother has always been the quiet backbone of our family, giving from the heart without hesitation. Their example taught me that true generosity is showing up for others with love and presence, and that principle runs through every part of my work. I’m a proud graduate of the Holistic Massage Training Institute, where I began my journey into bodywork and holistic healing. Over the years, I’ve specialized in prenatal, fertility, infant, and postpartum massage, helping women release physical tension and rediscover balance in their bodies. I also help many clients find relief from chronic neck and lower back pain, drawing on more than four years of therapeutic experience. In 2020, I founded a private practice specializing in pregnancy and postpartum manual therapy. Over the years of practice, I have helped over 300+ women relieve pain, improve mobility, and prepare for birth. My educational journey has included studies at Anne Arundel Community College and Western Governors University, and midwifery studies through the National College of Midwifery while apprenticing under several licensed midwives. I have attended over 50+ births in a mix of hospitals, home births, and birthing centers. My calling toward birth work was born of my own motherhood journey. My first childbirth experience showed me the power of a supportive birth team, but my second reminded me how deeply a lack of support can impact a woman. That moment became the turning point that led me to dedicate my life to women’s wellness — ensuring that every woman feels seen, supported, and cared for during one of life’s most transformative experiences. In 2022, I was honored to receive the Good Heart Award from The Shades of Blue Project during Black Maternal Health Week, recognizing my commitment to uplifting and caring for families in the birthing community. My work has also been featured in publications such as Motherly, Beauty Boost Baltimore, and Voyage Baltimore. Every client I serve, every birth I attend, and every family I serve is an extension of that same legacy of care that was passed down from my family. I’m here to create spaces where women feel safe, nurtured, and empowered to trust their bodies — because generosity, to me, is the act of helping others remember their own strength.

My Doula Medina was absolutely amazing. Such a genuine and down to earth person who also happens to be so full of knowledge and experience and such a great resource. She has such a calming presence and made my whole birthing experience so much less stressful. She goes out of her way to help you achieve the birth plan you hope for. The prenatal massage was also perfect, such an incredible bonus when you’re pregnant and exhausted. I can’t say enough good things and I recommend her to anyone planning a family!

While photographing my first home birth in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2014, I naturally found myself playing the role of doula between shots. I signed up for official training the next day and never looked back. Soon after doula training, I earned a Certification in Lactation Counseling (CLC) and began helping mothers struggling with feeding issues. I have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of babies in various settings, with varying feeding challenges, and a wide range of feeding goals. Phelicia welcomes families of all dynamics, ethnicities, and backgrounds, supporting births at home, in-hospital, medicated or unmedicated, planned, and unplanned cesareans.

Recent review

I loved having Phelicia as my doula. She helped me create my birth plan, prep for breastfeeding, pumping, and bottles, and feel at peace about delivery and nursing. Even though I ended up having a cesarean due to breech presentation, she came to the hospital and was ready to help in any and every way in post-op (with care for me, baby's first latch, advice, etc.). She was wonderful at following-up with us regularly, checking in, giving advice, etc., while also giving us space to enjoy being first-time parents. She was a fantastic lactation consultant and helped us navigate our little one's tongue tie with so much wisdom. I highly recommend her for birth and lactation support. If we have another child in the DC area, I will not hesitate to hire her again.

I am a Certified Birth Photographer and Certified Full Spectrum Doula serving Denver, Colorado and surrounding areas. My love for birth started at a young age, but it wasn't until I birthed my daughter that I found my passion. I believe that everyone's pregnancy journey and birth story matters. You will carry your experience with you for the rest of your life. As your doula and birth photographer, it is my responsibility to support you, advocate for you when necessary, and document the beautiful moments of your birth. I believe that birth is natural and all about trusting yourself, your body, and the process. I also believe that it is your right to determine what the best birth is for your family. I offer support for all types of families. I am also bilingual (Spanish/English). It does not matter if you are having a home birth or a scheduled cesarean. My main goal is to ensure that you have all of the information you need in order to make an informed decision. No matter what decision you make, I will always have your back. As a parent who has just recently gone through my own pregnancy and birth journey, I understand how lonely it can feel. Know that you are never alone. I will be there to listen whenever you need to talk to someone about how you feel or you just need to release your emotions. I will believe in you even when you don't. You are strong, capable, and powerful. And I'll be there to remind you every time you doubt yourself.

Hi there! My name is Darshal but you can call me Dee! I am a mom and experienced doula. I’m originally from Mississippi, and have a beautiful, blossoming teenage daughter! My journey into motherhood and the knowledge and empowerment gained through childbirth has led me to become a doula. I have a passion for helping women achieve a positive and satisfying childbirth experience. My goal as a doula is to help educate, advocate, offer support and comfort for all birthing persons during their fertility, pregnancy along with labor, ultimately leading to a positive birth and wellness experience.

Recent review

Dee the Doula (Darshal) is simply phenomenal! From the moment we connected, Dee brought such warmth, professionalism, and genuine care to every conversation. She is not only a certified birth & postpartum doula but also a student midwife with an incredible depth of knowledge about pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery. Her approach is the perfect balance of evidence-based guidance and heartfelt emotional support. She listened to my needs, respected my preferences, and made me feel empowered every step of the way. Whether it was helping me create a birth plan, offering comfort measures during labor, or ensuring I had the resources I needed at home postpartum, Dee went above and beyond. Even during times when she was navigating her own personal life challenges and may not have been quite as sharp for a few moments as she’s usually 110% of the time, she still showed up fully for me and my family. We gave her space to process because what good would she be to us if she wasn’t replenished? That mutual respect only strengthened our bond, and I can truly call her family and for that, I’m deeply grateful. It’s clear that this is more than just a job for her, it’s her calling. She treats her clients like family and creates a safe, uplifting environment for both parents and baby. If you’re looking for someone who will advocate for you, educate you, and hold space for you through one of the most important times in your life, I can’t recommend Dee the Doula enough! As we grow our family, she will ALWAYS be our go to doula! I can’t wait to see her in action one day as a midwife!

Nkay is a Traditional Apprentice Midwife serving families throughout the Baltimore–Washington region with a deep commitment to culturally centered, respectful, and holistic maternity care. Widely recognized for her dedication to Black and minority families, Nikita has spent over a decade supporting women through fertility, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with compassion, clinical rigor, and ancestral reverence. Born and raised in Baltimore City, Nikita later relocated to suburban Maryland at age 19, where her personal journey into motherhood profoundly shaped her professional calling. Becoming a mother at 16 with the steadfast support of her married parents, she developed an early passion for maternal health and a determination to serve women during some of life’s most transformative moments. This experience inspired her pursuit of a career in labor and delivery and ultimately midwifery. In 2013, Nikita began her formal clinical training by earning her Nursing Assistant Certification at the Gandhi School in Pikesville, Maryland. She then advanced her medical training at Brown’s Career Institute, where she became both a Patient Care Technician and Certified Phlebotomist. That same year, she entered the field of obstetrics as an OB Surgical Technician at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C., completing the hospital’s in-house Surgical Technology Program and receiving extensive on-the-job training in high-acuity maternity care. Over the next five years, Nikita worked across multiple labor and delivery units throughout the DMV, including Sibley Memorial Hospital, The George Washington University Hospital, St. Agnes Hospital, Providence Hospital, StoneSprings Hospital Center, Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, and MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. During this time, she gained firsthand experience in operative births, maternal emergencies, and interdisciplinary obstetric care—knowledge that continues to inform her midwifery practice today. In 2019, recognizing the limitations of hospital-based care for families seeking autonomy and holistic support, Nikita transitioned from surgical technology to birthwork as a doula and student midwife. That same year, she founded DMV Birth Doulas, LLC, a full-spectrum doula practice dedicated to empowering families through personalized, evidence-informed, and culturally affirming support. In 2020, Nikita launched The Black Doula Training, LLC, an accessible, low-cost educational program designed to increase diversity in the birthwork profession and prepare aspiring doulas for professional practice. Many graduates of the program have gone on to serve families in community settings and within DMV Birth Doulas’ professional network. In December 2024, Nikita successfully fulfilled the hands-on training and skills checklist requirements ine PEP process as an Apprentice Midwife including observing 10 births as a doula, assisting in 20 births as an assistant under licensed midwives, and attending 30 births as a primary student under direct supervision.  Throughout her training, she worked under the mentorship and clinical supervision of respected midwives across the Mid-Atlantic region, including: Bayla Berkowitz, CNM (Pikesville, MD) Monika Karaosman, CPM (Berlin, MD) Elder Midwife Maureen McIver, CPM (Pennsylvania) Ryann Bernard, CPM, JD (Alexandria, VA) These mentors evaluated her clinical skills, birth outcomes, and professional competencies, affirming her readiness to practice midwifery in community and out-of-hospital settings. Today, Nikita is the owner of The House of Gloria Fertility & Birth, a sacred, boutique midwifery and fertility practice in Ellicott City, Maryland. Her work blends traditional midwifery principles with modern clinical standards, offering families holistic fertility care, homebirth midwifery, and comprehensive postpartum support. She is particularly known for her dedication to informed consent, physiologic birth, and culturally grounded care that honors Black maternal health and ancestral birth traditions. Nikita remains deeply invested in education, mentorship, and advocacy for maternal health equity. Through her clinical practice, training programs, and community outreach, she continues to expand access to respectful, culturally aligned birth care for families across Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

Hi, I’m Siedah Israel, a Certified Labor Doula, Holistic Wellness Practitioner, and Certified Herbalist based in Fredericksburg in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. I’m a wife of 15 years and a homeschooling mother of five. My wellness and birth advocacy journey began with earning a certificate in Massage Therapy from Eastern Virginia Career College in 2018. I later completed my Doula Certification through Germanna Community College in 2024 and graduated with honors in Herbal Studies from the American College of Healthcare Sciences in 2025. I am currently in Phase I of the PEP process as I work toward becoming a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). I have extensive experience supporting families through hospital births, birth center births, and home births. Personally, I have experienced three hospital births and two home births, which deeply informs the care, perspective, and support I offer to the families I serve. When I’m not supporting families, I enjoy homeschooling, spending time outdoors with my children, writing poetry, working on my werewolf novel, and handcrafting natural hair and skincare products. It is a true honor to walk alongside families with compassion, cultural awareness, and grounded support during such a sacred season of life.

I truly do not know what I would have done without Siedah, and I believe I amucky to have found her for my second birth. As someone who has gone through a traumatic birth experience my first pregnancy, I knew I needed some additional support outside of my husband. But, let's talk about the process even before birth. Months before giving birth, Siedah reminded me and helped me re-process my trauma. Made me really think about how I wanted things to go this time around. To make me confident as well in asking questions about my care and babies care. I feel like that was a huge part in the success of my second birth experience. Fast forward to the actual birth, Siedah asked all the healthcare staff the right questions, or had them re-explain what was going on. I did have to be induced as I had pre-eclampsia. Everything went so smooth, it was exactly how I imagined it. Not to mention how fast it all went too! Siedah has such a big heart, and you can tell she truly cares about you; wants what is best for you too! She treats you like family, and reminds you to choose yourself which can be hard sometimes to remember when you're a mom. You won't regret having her by your side.

I am passionate about helping families (re)connect with and embrace their power as they journey through this incredible rite of passage. My philosophy centers on being a conduit for healing, serving as a guide to help reconnect you to your own power and agency. Bearing witness to self discovery and supporting individuals and families as they navigate this journey with strength, dignity, and peace is one of my greatest joys. I believe that with the right support, every birth can be a positive and memorable experience.

Working with Amelia as our HypnoBirthing companion was truly transformative! Over the course of two months in September and October, she guided my husband and me with such kindness, humor, compassion, and grounded presence that after each in-person session, it felt as though we had known her for years. From the very beginning, Amelia created a warm, safe, and engaging space that allowed me to move from extreme fear and uncertainty about pregnancy and birth to feeling calm, confident, and genuinely excited for my birthing day. My husband looked forward to every class, as Amelia gave him tangible, meaningful ways to support me during pregnancy and to be an active, empowered partner during labor. Her teachings not only brought the two of us closer, but also helped us deepen our bond with our baby and equipped us with tools we will continue to use throughout parenthood and in many parts of our personal and professional lives. I am forever grateful to Amelia for sharing her knowledge and expertise in HypnoBirthing. She helped us prepare for the arrival of our baby boy with calm, clarity, peace, and joy and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide on this journey. I miss her dearly but will always take her spirit and teachings with me moving forward. What a gift she is to this world!

I’m a birth and postpartum doula serving families throughout the Baltimore, DC, Southern Pennsylvania, and Southern Maryland areas. My work is rooted in one core belief: when a mother is deeply supported, nurtured, and cared for, she is better able to care for her baby and step into motherhood with confidence and grace. I specialize in supporting mothers through some of the most vulnerable and transformative seasons of life — including high-risk pregnancies, birth trauma, postpartum mood disorders, hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), chronic illness, pregnancy after loss, and complex postpartum recovery. My background in psychiatric rehabilitation counseling allows me to bring a unique understanding of emotional health, nervous system support, and compassionate care into the birth world. My approach is deeply intuitive, trauma-informed, and mother-centered. I believe birth is not just a medical event — it is a life-changing human experience that deserves respect, advocacy, emotional safety, and individualized support. Whether I’m supporting a laboring mother through transition, helping a postpartum mother heal after a cesarean, assisting with feeding challenges, or simply making sure a family feels seen and cared for, my goal is always the same: to “mother the mother.” I offer both birth and postpartum doula services, including overnight and daytime support, prenatal education, emotional support, recovery guidance, feeding support, and practical care for growing families. I am especially passionate about helping women trust themselves again after difficult experiences and creating spaces where mothers feel safe, empowered, and genuinely held. Beyond my work with clients, I’m passionate about maternal mental health advocacy, improving the birth experience for women, and creating honest conversations around motherhood, healing, and the realities of postpartum life. My work combines evidence-based education with warmth, intuition, humor, and deep compassion. At the heart of everything I do is the belief that mothers deserve quality care. Hi, I’m Gabrielle Taylor. I’ve been supporting mothers and newborns since February 2022, but my passion for women’s health began in my teenage years. I’m a proud mother of two—my children were born in 2017 and 2021. **I have teamed up with Danica Day to bring quality care and support to Frederick and the surrounding areas. You can read more about Danica here: https://www.dawnandduskdoulaco.com/** My first birth, a cesarean, was emotionally traumatic and left me feeling unsupported and unheard. In contrast, the birth of my second child was an empowering VBAC, made possible by the compassionate presence of an incredible doula. That experience was truly life-changing—it showed me the profound difference that informed, empathetic support can make. Now, my mission is to offer that same kind of transformative support to other families. Whether you're navigating your first birth or welcoming another child into your home, I’m here to help you feel confident, cared for, and connected. In today’s fast-paced world, motherhood can feel isolating—but I'm here to bridge that gap so you feel supported. “In birth, we find the courage we never knew we had and the strength that was there all along.” – Marcie Macari Hi, my name is Bria Comer. I am a birth doula, as well as a dance teacher, licensed physical therapist assistant, and a mama to my son, daughter, and dog! I am so excited that you are considering the idea of a doula. I believe that everyone deserves the support and knowledge of a birth doula to help make childbirth the beautiful journey it should be. My background in dance and physical therapy, in combination with my doula training, gives me valuable insight into the physiology of the perinatal time frame to help you embrace the power within your body. I have seen firsthand how positioning, massage techniques, intentional movement, and breath work help birthing individuals. My goal as your doula is first and foremost to support you with your needs and desires, whatever decisions you make. I am also interested in helping you learn about normal physiology and movement practices during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum to help empower and educate you. This will help you be in tune with your body and its needs as well, so you can continue to find strength and balance beyond our time together! I also use my knowledge and experience from over 6 years of working in pediatric physical therapy to help educate and guide you on normal infant development, if you are interested. LGBT+ friendly 💜

Bria was an absolute delight to work with through pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum. She is extremely knowledgeable about the body and how to maximize comfort during pregnancy and prepare for a smooth delivery. She was a calming presence during my home birth, even as things moved quickly before my midwife had even arrived. She was about 3 minutes away from having to deliver my baby herself and there was never a moment of panic or stress on her end. She also supported us for six weeks postpartum, coming to the house weekly to help with any and everything we needed, including preparing meals and snacks, helping us with body work and movement, taking some house work off my plate, and even walking our dog who now loves her as much as we do! I would absolutely hire Bria again in a heartbeat <3

☀️Hey everyone!☀️ 💗My name is Yasmine. I am a certified birth and postpartum doula who’s also completed a birth/ midwives assistant training. 💌I became doula as my love for birth began as a child. I grew up in a large family and loved watching it grow with more babies. When I had my daughter, I was on Medicaid and wanted someone personal to help guide me through birth and labor. I did not know what a doula was exactly at that time. When I got pregnant with my son, I found myself being a doula for friends and mutual friends of mine virtually(due to Covid). It was not until my doula training that I learned Medicaid covers doulas. I then took the steps to become VA state certified and accept VA Medicaid. 🎯My goal is to provide quality, compassionate, empathetic, evidence based support to women who are more likely to get taken advantage of and neglected. As a woman of color, I know what it is like to feel dismissed and talked down to by the birth team/ healthcare system. I want to help you have the tools and confidence in your informed decisions.
