Nikita Wise

Ellicott City, Maryland

Nikita Wise

10 years of experience

Nikita Wise is a Traditional Apprentice Midwife serving families throughout the Baltimore–Washington region with a deep commitment to culturally centered, respectful, and holistic maternity care. Widely recognized for her dedication to Black and minority families, Nikita has spent over a decade supporting women through fertility, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with compassion, clinical rigor, and ancestral reverence. Born and raised in Baltimore City, Nikita later relocated to suburban Maryland at age 19, where her personal journey into motherhood profoundly shaped her professional calling. Becoming a mother at 16 with the steadfast support of her married parents, she developed an early passion for maternal health and a determination to serve women during some of life’s most transformative moments. This experience inspired her pursuit of a career in labor and delivery and ultimately midwifery. In 2013, Nikita began her formal clinical training by earning her Nursing Assistant Certification at the Gandhi School in Pikesville, Maryland. She then advanced her medical training at Brown’s Career Institute, where she became both a Patient Care Technician and Certified Phlebotomist. That same year, she entered the field of obstetrics as an OB Surgical Technician at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C., completing the hospital’s in-house Surgical Technology Program and receiving extensive on-the-job training in high-acuity maternity care. Over the next five years, Nikita worked across multiple labor and delivery units throughout the DMV, including Sibley Memorial Hospital, The George Washington University Hospital, St. Agnes Hospital, Providence Hospital, StoneSprings Hospital Center, Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, and MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. During this time, she gained firsthand experience in operative births, maternal emergencies, and interdisciplinary obstetric care—knowledge that continues to inform her midwifery practice today. In 2019, recognizing the limitations of hospital-based care for families seeking autonomy and holistic support, Nikita transitioned from surgical technology to birthwork as a doula and student midwife. That same year, she founded DMV Birth Doulas, LLC, a full-spectrum doula practice dedicated to empowering families through personalized, evidence-informed, and culturally affirming support. In 2020, Nikita launched The Black Doula Training, LLC, an accessible, low-cost educational program designed to increase diversity in the birthwork profession and prepare aspiring doulas for professional practice. Many graduates of the program have gone on to serve families in community settings and within DMV Birth Doulas’ professional network. In December 2024, Nikita successfully fulfilled the hands-on training and skills checklist requirements ine PEP process as an Apprentice Midwife including observing 10 births as a doula, assisting in 20 births as an assistant under licensed midwives, and attending 30 births as a primary student under direct supervision.  Throughout her training, she worked under the mentorship and clinical supervision of respected midwives across the Mid-Atlantic region, including: Bayla Berkowitz, CNM (Pikesville, MD) Monika Karaosman, CPM (Berlin, MD) Elder Midwife Maureen McIver, CPM (Pennsylvania) Ryann Bernard, CPM, JD (Alexandria, VA) These mentors evaluated her clinical skills, birth outcomes, and professional competencies, affirming her readiness to practice midwifery in community and out-of-hospital settings. Today, Nikita is the owner of The House of Gloria Fertility & Birth, a sacred, boutique midwifery and fertility practice in Ellicott City, Maryland. Her work blends traditional midwifery principles with modern clinical standards, offering families holistic fertility care, homebirth midwifery, and comprehensive postpartum support. She is particularly known for her dedication to informed consent, physiologic birth, and culturally grounded care that honors Black maternal health and ancestral birth traditions. Nikita remains deeply invested in education, mentorship, and advocacy for maternal health equity. Through her clinical practice, training programs, and community outreach, she continues to expand access to respectful, culturally aligned birth care for families across Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

I wear many titles with pride — Wife, Mother, Lactation Specialist, Licensed Massage therapist (LIC#R03337), Student Midwife, and Author. But at the heart of it all, I’m simply someone who is devoted to women’s health, healing, and empowerment. My passion for nurturing others comes from a long line of generous souls — my mother, my grandparents, whose kindness and selflessness shaped who I am today. My grandfather devoted his life to serving his community, and my grandmother has always been the quiet backbone of our family, giving from the heart without hesitation. Their example taught me that true generosity is showing up for others with love and presence, and that principle runs through every part of my work. I’m a proud graduate of the Holistic Massage Training Institute, where I began my journey into bodywork and holistic healing. Over the years, I’ve specialized in prenatal, fertility, infant, and postpartum massage, helping women release physical tension and rediscover balance in their bodies. I also help many clients find relief from chronic neck and lower back pain, drawing on more than four years of therapeutic experience. In 2020, I founded a private practice specializing in pregnancy and postpartum manual therapy. Over the years of practice, I have helped over 300+ women relieve pain, improve mobility, and prepare for birth. My educational journey has included studies at Anne Arundel Community College and Western Governors University, and midwifery studies through the National College of Midwifery while apprenticing under several licensed midwives. I have attended over 50+ births in a mix of hospitals, home births, and birthing centers. My calling toward birth work was born of my own motherhood journey. My first childbirth experience showed me the power of a supportive birth team, but my second reminded me how deeply a lack of support can impact a woman. That moment became the turning point that led me to dedicate my life to women’s wellness — ensuring that every woman feels seen, supported, and cared for during one of life’s most transformative experiences. In 2022, I was honored to receive the Good Heart Award from The Shades of Blue Project during Black Maternal Health Week, recognizing my commitment to uplifting and caring for families in the birthing community. My work has also been featured in publications such as Motherly, Beauty Boost Baltimore, and Voyage Baltimore. Every client I serve, every birth I attend, and every family I serve is an extension of that same legacy of care that was passed down from my family. I’m here to create spaces where women feel safe, nurtured, and empowered to trust their bodies — because generosity, to me, is the act of helping others remember their own strength.

Having Medina by my side was the best decision. Doing our pre labor meetings a month before definitely made me more comfortable with Medina and my husband also was more comfortable. We both loved having Medina as part of our journey. Two months postpartum and I absolutely I am so blessed that Medina was there. Medina truly and genuinely cared for my baby and myself. I can’t even put it to words how supportive Medina was. I loved her quick responses even at 2am! Her guidance. I’m so glad she’s a doula and I hope she becomes a midwife.and I will be recommending Her to everyone I know. I Love her and misss her!!!!!!

Erin is an INCREDIBLE gem of a doula. From the moment my husband and I met her, we knew instantly that she was the one. And we were right! First of all, her passion and positive energy are contagious. We accomplished SO MUCH during our first visit. She patiently guided me through various poses to ease discomfort and prepare me for labor, all while getting to know me. By the end of the visit, she had me completely figured out. In my stubborn moments, Erin always had the magic words to get me unstuck. Our dynamic was as though we were old friends. My birth experience was a 3-day induction with lots of highs and lows. Erin was there for ALL of it and kept the same energy throughout. When I felt lazy and wouldn't get out of the bed, she was the birth whisperer. I laugh when I remember how she "tricked" me into dancing and walking to bring on labor and how much I ended up enjoying it. Erin also wisely guided us through the medical team's recommendations and helped us make informed choices. On day 3, she told me we could get the baby out in a few hours if I did what she said, and IT HAPPENED! I had some unforeseen complications after, and she stayed with my husband and baby until I was out of the OR and stabilized. She even met us at home some weeks after to check on me, debrief, and celebrate. Erin is kind, patient, and genuinely passionate about birth. She has a PERMANENT place in my heart and invitation to the cookout. https://doulamatch.net/testimonial/detail/81721

I’m a birth and postpartum doula serving families throughout the Baltimore, DC, Southern Pennsylvania, and Southern Maryland areas. My work is rooted in one core belief: when a mother is deeply supported, nurtured, and cared for, she is better able to care for her baby and step into motherhood with confidence and grace. I specialize in supporting mothers through some of the most vulnerable and transformative seasons of life — including high-risk pregnancies, birth trauma, postpartum mood disorders, hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), chronic illness, pregnancy after loss, and complex postpartum recovery. My background in psychiatric rehabilitation counseling allows me to bring a unique understanding of emotional health, nervous system support, and compassionate care into the birth world. My approach is deeply intuitive, trauma-informed, and mother-centered. I believe birth is not just a medical event — it is a life-changing human experience that deserves respect, advocacy, emotional safety, and individualized support. Whether I’m supporting a laboring mother through transition, helping a postpartum mother heal after a cesarean, assisting with feeding challenges, or simply making sure a family feels seen and cared for, my goal is always the same: to “mother the mother.” I offer both birth and postpartum doula services, including overnight and daytime support, prenatal education, emotional support, recovery guidance, feeding support, and practical care for growing families. I am especially passionate about helping women trust themselves again after difficult experiences and creating spaces where mothers feel safe, empowered, and genuinely held. Beyond my work with clients, I’m passionate about maternal mental health advocacy, improving the birth experience for women, and creating honest conversations around motherhood, healing, and the realities of postpartum life. My work combines evidence-based education with warmth, intuition, humor, and deep compassion. At the heart of everything I do is the belief that mothers deserve quality care. From the moment we met Heather, she felt like a member of our family. She was instrumental in helping us achieve a beautiful labor and birth, advocating for my preferences, managing pain, and guiding me through various positions to facilitate progress in labor. In the weeks leading up to the birth, Heather dedicated several hours to preparing my partner and me. She encouraged us to consider different scenarios, practiced Spinning Babies techniques with us, and discussed my labor preferences in detail. Thanks to her calming expertise, we approached the experience without anxiety, confident in Heather’s support. When I faced a complication after delivery, Heather remained by our side throughout. She guided my partner in supporting me and advocated to keep our baby with me at all times—something I believe greatly contributed to the positive outcome of our situation. After we were discharged, Heather visited us at home and provided invaluable practical support that we hadn’t received at the hospital. She helped with swaddling, bottle feeding, soothing a fussy baby, and even advised us on some essential overnight Amazon purchases. During this time, Heather also assisted us in navigating and processing the trauma we experienced, validating our complex feelings and helping us appreciate the beauty of our birth. Heather will always be a cherished part of our family and our story. We cannot recommend her services enough.

I support parents who want a deeply intentional, holistic postpartum experience that prioritizes healing, nourishment, and emotional support, not just survival. My work centers on helping you feel prepared, rested, and cared for as you recover from birth and bond with your baby. I provide personalized postpartum planning, guidance on physical recovery, newborn care support, and practical help establishing boundaries, rhythms, and sustainable systems at home. Families who work with me value a grounded, intuitive approach to parenthood and want support that honors both the science of postpartum care and the wisdom of the body. What sets my work apart is my holistic training and focus on whole-person healing. I integrate Ayurvedic postpartum principles, offering guidance on warming foods, nourishment for breastfeeding, and practices that support hormonal balance, energy, and recovery. I help parents understand how to nourish their bodies for milk production, rebuild strength after birth, and create a home environment that promotes rest and regulation for both parent and baby. My approach blends trauma-informed emotional support, attachment-focused care, and community-centered values so you feel confident, deeply supported, and truly held during this transformative season.

Siena was a wonderful doula - I highly recommend her! For my second baby, I was trying for a VBAC. My baby was a few days late and I was very worried about having to be induced. Siena gave me so many helpful tips to try to bring on labor and I tried ALL of them. All of that prep work definitely contributed to going into labor, the short labor that I had (less than 3 hours from first contraction to delivery!) and my successful VBAC without an epidural. I had such a radically different experience this birth compared to with my first kid (did not have a doula that time around). And my entire postpartum experience was much improved because the labor was so much different/better. I am very appreciative of Siena's guidance and support throughout the latter weeks of my pregnancy. All of her work with me and my husband definitely helped create that positive experience and I will be forever grateful!  Siena has a very calming presence, and I always felt cared-for and prepared after talking to her. She also encouraged me to think about things that I wouldn't have thought of on my own - i.e. how to prepare for the postpartum period. Because my labor was so short, Siena arrived very soon after the baby was born and she helped calm me down and deal with the crazy shakes and nausea that I had, as well as breastfeeding. She immediately assessed the situation and was able to provide things that were really comforting to me, without me even asking - she massaged my feet and put some peppermint oil by my head. And in those quiet moments following delivery, those careful, considerate details will forever be ingrained in my memory of my baby's first minutes in the world!
