I have been in the healthcare field since I completed my Bachelor of Science at Marymount University where I studied Health Promotion and minored in Public Health. I was concerned during the pandemic about the alarming rates at which black women and women of color were passing away at a time that is supposed to be joyous. With not having kids of my own yet, I would like to put out the good I’d like to receive when my time comes. Educating moms and their partners with welcoming their children and feeling confident to not feel pressured to do anything other than what’s on the birth plan. I started my child care journey as a babysitter 13 years ago. I have worked as a nanny for the last 10 years and as an NCS for the last 6 years. I have looked after children as young as 2 days old to 14 years of age. As an NCS, I have experience working with multiples, preemies, and reflux challenges. In 2020, I founded a private practice specializing in pregnancy and postpartum manual therapy. Over the years of practice, I have helped over 300+ women relieve pain, improve mobility, and prepare for birth. My educational journey has included studies at Anne Arundel Community College and Western Governors University, and midwifery studies through the National College of Midwifery while apprenticing under several licensed midwives. I have attended over 50+ births in a mix of hospitals, home births, and birthing centers. My calling toward birth work was born of my own motherhood journey. Courtney Marie Gladden is an experienced voice on all things parenting and baby through early childhood. Originally from Cincinnati, OH Courtney relocated to Washington, D.C. in 2007 to attend Howard University. After Courtney’s son Lenox was born she felt called to support other families during the critical newborn period. She trained as a postpartum doula and newborn care specialist working with countless families as they welcomed new babies, navigated developmental milestones and sleep challenges, and worked to establish loving boundaries with their toddlers. Courtney is now an International Certified Newborn Care Specialist and Certified Pediatric Sleep Coach with over twelve years of experience. She brings a level of professionalism and care that is apparent in all she does. She has worked with hundreds of families and believes we should actively work against the trend of parent shaming and guilt by instilling confidence in parents.
