Syllona Kanu

Hi, I’m Syllona. I’m a birth and postpartum doula, childbirth educator, hypnobirthing instructor, and maternal health researcher — centering well-being, equity, and accessibility in all that I do. My approach is trauma-informed and person-centered, drawing on my background in social work and over seven years of experience supporting people through major life transitions. I believe every birthing person and family deserves to feel confident, informed, respected, and empowered throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. When we work together, you’ll receive compassionate, evidence-based support tailored to your needs. I will support you in everything from navigating the medical system to preparing emotionally and physically for birth. My goal is to ensure you feel safe, heard, and deeply supported every step of the way. I have specialized training in supporting birthing people with a history of trauma — including previous birth trauma, sexual or physical violence, or experiences of systemic barriers in care. Together, we’ll hold space for your story and move forward in a way that honours your strength, autonomy, and healing.

When I realized my original birth plan with a midwife wouldn't be possible, I started to dread labour and birth. I was terrified of an overly medicalized process, losing my autonomy, agreeing to interventions I didn't fully understand, and the potential of lasting birth trauma. Working with Syllona changed everything. My labour and the birth of my son ended up being the most intense, beautiful, and transformative experience of my life, and I credit Syllona with much of this outcome. Her guidance and encouragement leading up to the labour allowed my partner and me to make the exact right decisions for our family. With Syllona’s grounded support, I confidently turned inwards, connected to my body in ways I never had before, and truly believed in my innate ability to give birth. Because of her, I felt empowered to guide my baby into our world, comforting him and letting him know he was safe. Thank you, Syllona, for guiding us and helping us bring our son into this world. I cannot recommend her highly enough to any expecting parents.

Charlene was an exceptional doula to my family. She helped my husband and I welcome our second child in North Vancouver this summer and I don't know what we would have done without her. She was compassionate, knowledgable, extremely skilled at birthing support, and helped hold us all together during a challenging labour, as well as provided us with all kinds of helpful support before and after the delivery. I can't say enough kind things about her, she thought of all the small things to make the journey easier for us, she comes highly recommended.

As a new mom, my husband and I didn’t have any family nearby, so I had many questions and felt unsure about what to expect after my pregnancy. Tiffany was a helpful resource before, during, and after the birth. With so many things I didn’t know and no one to guide me, Tiffany stayed with us and was always friendly, dependable and easy to talk to. She offered kind support and helpful advice for all my questions. Our baby also felt very comfortable with her, which made our transition to life with a new baby much easier. We are very thankful for Tiffany’s help as our doula. Having her around at such an important time meant a lot to our family. Even months after the baby was born, she continued to be a caring and dependable presence, and our little one has grown to love her.

I am incredibly grateful to have had Rachel by my side during the birth of my baby girl. From the very beginning, she was so kind, accommodating, and genuine, and she made me feel completely supported and cared for throughout such a deeply personal and transformative experience. What stood out to me most about Rachel is that her care never felt business-minded or transactional. She strongly advocates for women and is truly passionate about her job. She was attentive to my needs, flexible with what I needed in each moment, and always made me feel heard and respected. Her approach is holistic and extends far beyond simply caring for mom and baby — she takes the time to consider the entire family and that personally gave me a great comfort. I feel so fortunate that she was part of such an important chapter in our lives, and I would wholeheartedly recommend her to any family looking for a doula who cares for the whole family with genuine love and intention.

My path to becoming a doula began with my own births. As a mother, I have experienced how deeply birth can shape a woman. My last birth, supported by a doula, showed me the quiet power of being held without judgment, without pressure, just steady, present support. It changed everything for me. I have attended seven births so far, each one strengthening my respect for this work and deepening my calling to walk alongside women as they welcome new life. I have completed my doula training through Douglas College, where I developed the knowledge and skills to provide thoughtful, informed, and compassionate care. I believe birth is not something to be feared, but something to be witnessed and supported through. A doula holds that space, grounded and aware, so the mother can let go. With one foot in the conscious world, we create safety, allowing her to turn inward, trust herself, and fully enter the experience. In that space, she returns to herself. She rises into her instinctive, powerful nature. This is the heart of my work. I am committed to practicing cultural safety and honoring every client’s unique background, beliefs, and lived experience. My goal is to create a space where you feel respected, heard, and fully supported, exactly as you are. I am there to hold steady, to protect the space, and to support you as you move through one of the most defining moments of your life. Through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and loss, my role is to ensure you feel seen, safe, and supported every step of the way. You can expect calm presence, emotional support, and gentle guidance when you need it most. You will always have someone in your corner. I am committed to continually deepening my knowledge and learning new techniques to better support both mother and baby.

Joann was such an incredible support to us throughout pregnancy, labour, and postpartum. Our baby is 6 months old now and when I think of his birth, I remember how amazing it was to have Joann there. I had a planned c-section after a very traumatic delivery with my first, so I knew I wanted a doula by my side, but also to support hubby in case he needed it. Throughout pregnancy, Joann was a cheerleader, always there to talk. When our little guy decided he couldn’t wait until his planned c-section date, Joann pivoted and met us as at the hospital as soon as we needed her. She came with her bag of tricks (lol) to help me through labour (a labour I wasn’t anticipating because of the scheduled c-section), which progressed so quickly, and she was so great at ensuring both myself and hubby were supported where and when we needed. She took beautiful pics too and stayed with us until we were settled in our room. The overnight visits were a game changer, too! We love and appreciate Joann, and couldn’t imagine what the experience would have been like without her! I’ve given birth without a doula, and with a doula - having Joann there was the experience any mama deserves when having a baby <3

Santaya Stander

Hey my name is Santaya, I am a Birth doula.I work as a pregnancy coach while also being a personal trainer for delivery. I work with families to help them achieve their goals for birth. This means i meet with patients (and families) twice during pregnancy to go over needs and goals for clients birth plans. During my clients pregnancy i visit them every trimester to do a check up. In these visits i go over what to expect within that trimester and answer any of the patients questions. I also track the pregnancy in a book that i give to the patient after delivery. I offer business hours on call support to my clients. This means i will be available from 9 am-5pm for physical support, emotional support and informational support via text or call. I help assist/coach my clients with delivery at the hospital however long that may be.I don't have to do shift change. I am present during labor till a few hours after.I help support clients that decide on natural birth, epidural or C section. Postpartum clients usually feel they no longer need men after a couple hours. Most times this is natural for the family unit to adjust and adapt to normal everyday life. However, I also offer packages for postpartum newborn aftercare where I can assist with breastfeeding and overnight care of the newborn. My passion in life is the celebration of mothers. Working with women and helping women build their families THIER way. Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you feel you are in need of a doula please reach out. I’m a caring, calm, and practical family support provider with a diverse professional background in healthcare, childcare, aquatics, first aid, and community work. I spent 12 years working in healthcare with at-risk youth and older adults, and I’m currently completing my Full Spectrum Doula training through Doula School Canada, including postpartum care. I bring that combination of healthcare experience, safety knowledge, and hands-on family support into the way I care for both parents and children. My approach is very individual. I don’t believe there is one “right” way to parent, recover, feed a baby, build a routine, or support a child. I believe in meeting families where they are, listening before assuming, and helping people feel more confident in their own abilities rather than stepping in and trying to take over or “fix” things. Sometimes support means practical help, sometimes it means information or reassurance, and sometimes it means recognizing that someone is exhausted and needs a meal, a shower, a few uninterrupted hours of sleep, or simply another capable adult in the room. With children, I’m calm, creative, and very hands-on. I encourage age-appropriate independence, I’m patient about mistakes, happy to answer approximately nine million questions, and generally not bothered by a little mud, paint, flour, or chaos along the way. I also have extensive experience supporting neurodivergent children and youth and take an individualized, trauma-informed approach to communication, routines, sensory needs, and emotional regulation. Ultimately, I want the families I support to feel safe, respected, listened to, and more confident — not judged or managed. I bring a lot of professional knowledge into a home, but I never forget that it is your family, your values, and your life. My role is to support you in it.
