I’ve spent over a decade as a labor and delivery nurse inside hospital walls—standing beside women as monitors beeped, doctors rushed, and plans changed in an instant. But the moments that stuck with me weren’t just the medical ones. They were the moments when a woman felt completely alone—even with a room full of people. When she nodded through the doctor’s explanation but cried later because she didn’t understand what any of it meant for her and her baby. When she whispered, “I just want to enjoy this… but I don’t even know how anymore.” That’s why I created Hakuna Matata Mamas. To offer the kind of support I knew was missing: the kind that holds your hand through the hard, teaches you how to cope with the unknown, and reminds you that you still get to have a story you’re proud to share. I work with high-risk mamas who feel like the rug’s been pulled out from under them—who are doing their best to stay strong, but secretly just want someone to see behind the brave face. Through personalized hospital prep, nervous system tools, and real, compassionate guidance, I help you feel courageous and connected—so when the big day comes, it’s not just something you “get through.” It’s the best day of your life. Even if it didn’t go according to plan. Because how you feel during your birth matters. And you deserve to feel safe, supported, and sure of yourself—every step of the way.

Susan was a wonderful asset during my pregnancy and birth! I was having a water birth, and I would not have been prepared without Susan. She gave me the exercise, nutrition, and mindset information I needed to make sure I was healthy and ready for birth. She also walked me through the labor movements I should practice before birth so I would be ready to use all kinds of options when it was time. During birth, she was extremely supportive of me and my husband, and we were so happy to have her there. She was encouraging, reminded both of us to drink and eat, and talked with the midwives for us so we could focus on the labor. Susan made the whole experience so wonderful, I had the perfect birth and I look back on it and cry happy tears. Thank you Susan!

Hi everyone! I'm Angel, a wife, mom of four, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), trained full-spectrum doula, and maternal-child health educator. I'm passionate about walking alongside families as they navigate pregnancy, postpartum, infant feeding, and the transition into parenthood. I provide compassionate, evidence-based care that supports not only your baby's needs, but yours as well. My goal is to create a warm, judgment-free space where you feel heard, supported, and confident in the decisions you make for your family. As a mom of four, I know firsthand that pregnancy, feeding, recovery, and life with a new baby can be beautiful but it can also be exhausting, emotional, confusing, and sometimes incredibly lonely. So often, parents are surrounded by advice while still feeling like no one is truly caring for them. That's why I'm so passionate about this work. Whether I'm helping with feeding challenges, caring for your baby while you shower or rest, answering newborn questions, or simply offering reassurance during a difficult day, my hope is that every family I work with feels a little more cared for, a little more confident, and a lot less alone.

I'm writing this 14 months removed from having Jenny as my doula. I think about the trauma of my birth experience often which means thinking about Jenny often. Her strong advocacy of my needs, her unwavering support, and her creative techniques got me through the most scary yet most beautiful experience of my life. She is an incredible mother herself and supports other mothers with sage wisdom and tenderness. She will tell a nurse to back off if they overstep when she sees you are too vulnerable. She will talk you through making difficult choices with a measured firm love that only very special people can execute. I look at my son and know that we are both still here because of 3 things; 1. Several fiercely dedicated nurses 2. Whatever divinity exists that was looking out for my son and I 3. Jenny. The love for my son goes hand in hand with my love and appreciation for Jenny.

Hi, I’m Imani! 🤎 I’m a Full-Spectrum Doula serving families throughout Chicago, Illinois. I provide compassionate, holistic, and evidence-based support throughout pregnancy, birth, postpartum, loss, and life’s many transitions. I offer birth, VBAC, cesarean, postpartum, and emotional support tailored to each family’s individual needs. Before becoming a doula, I spent over 12 years in Early Childhood Education, 8 years as a nanny, and also worked as a Registered Behavior Technician. These experiences gave me a strong foundation in child development, newborn care, and supporting families through different stages of life. I completed my Full-Spectrum Doula training through Embrace Partum Health in 2026. My passion for doula work is deeply personal. After experiencing pregnancy loss, an unexpected cesarean, and a successful VBAC, I understand how meaningful it is to have someone who listens, provides reassurance, and truly sees you. My goal is to help families feel informed, respected, confident, and never alone. When I’m not supporting families, I enjoy spending time with loved ones, baking, cooking, writing poetry, and building community. A message to new parents: You don’t have to navigate this journey alone. It would be an honor to walk alongside you, listen to you, support your choices, and help you feel cared for through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and beyond. 🤎

I am so relieved and happy that we chose Parul to be our doula. From our first contact, she was extremely responsive, clear, thorough, warm, and supportive in her communication with us. Her knowledge of the birthing process and preparation is unparalleled and i felt so much more confident going into my delivery with her by my side. At the hospital she was an amazing advocate who helped to ensure our birth plan was honored as closely as possible by our doctor. She was also a huge support during the birth when I needed some encouragement to keep pushing. She also spent a lot of time getting to know us personally which helped pass the time in the hospital. Overall I couldn’t recommend Parul more. When we prepare for our next baby I will definitely work with her again!
