Mikala was the doula for my induction. She was amazing. She was really encouraging, always available over text to answer my questions, and came at 2:00am. At Stateline Birth Keepers, our goal is to support and empower families through life's most transformative experiences. Founded in 2024, we combine our unique experiences and expertise to provide compassionate, personalized care. We recognize that pregnancy, birth, and postpartum are deeply personal and emotional journeys, not just medical events. By pooling our skills, we offer holistic care that addresses the physical, emotional, and informational needs of the families we serve in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. My journey into birth work began in 2015 when I was supported during my son's birth by a doula. Inspired, I pursued certification and have since worked with diverse families in various settings across four states. As a mom of two earth side kids, one angel baby, I have personal experience with breastfeeding, cloth diapering, babywearing, and baby-led weaning. My son was born in a hospital with a failed epidural, and my daughter had a dramatic, unassisted yet absolutely beautiful home birth. Passionate about self care, my specialty and focus space is overnight newborn care support. I work with non-traditional families, and assist with trauma healing, I support single parents, LGBTQIA+, many different families with a variety of spiritual beliefs, supporting families through pregnancy losses, terminal diagnoses, stillbirths, and chosen losses. An adoptee myself, I also support adoption processes. Outside of Stateline Birth Keepers, I advocate for local foster youth, coach youth sports, and engage in the public educational system. I enjoy outdoor activities like camping, hiking, and paddle boarding, and I also enjoy crafting and thrifting during colder weather. Life’s an adventure, and I embrace every moment with a big smile and an open heart. I look forward to being a part of your unique and beautiful journey.

Every childbearing person deserves to feel supported, prepared, and unafraid as they navigate the wonders of pregnancy and childbirth. I’m both passionate and absolutely fascinated by this right of passage, and it is my highest privilege to guide others within their own birth stories. I became interested in childbirth education and birthwork when I was pregnant with our first baby. My partner and I attended a Bradley Method course kind of as a fluke, and it was life-changing. I did not realize how much I did not know! In addition to completing the Bradley Method course and experiencing the birth of my two children, I have worked in child and infant care for many years, including private nanny services, NatureSense Childcare Center, and The Madison Isthmus Montesorri Nedo (or nursery). I completed my Full Spectrum Doula Training, including prenatal, labor, birth, and postpartum care, as well as training in fetal positioning and lactation support with Cornerstone Birthwork Training, and am certified in Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid through the Red Cross. I specialize in whole-food nutrition and dietary considerations for those with autoimmune disease and chronic illness. I live with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Crohn’s Disease and have been developing and collecting recipes and home remedies for over 10 years! I’m an expert swaddler, baby bather, sleep wrangler, lullaby lilter, routine guru, space optimizing organizer, Story reader, and love to color and play Legos with kid siblings.

Leah was there for me 24/7 if I needed her or had a question, and has been 100% there for us from prenatal to postpartum. She kept me grounded and connected to what was happening to my body throughout my pregnancy and was knowledgeable about what I could do to help ease any pain or discomfort. Leah thoroughly prepared me for and guided me through each stage of labor and taught me how to recognize when it was time to go to the hospital. Leah offered so much support and reminded me that this is my pregnancy, my body, and while in the hospital, my voice is important. She made sure I understood that I had the right to ask questions and to say no at any point. She made me feel empowered. After our baby was born, Leah helped us feel confident in our abilities and has been an invaluable presence in our household for these first months. We are so happy to have had her by our side through this amazing experience.

I started my journey in postpartum support over a decade ago supporting pregnant and parenting teens living in a group home together. This experience laid the foundation for my love of supporting moms, and taught me the importance of community supports. After a decade long career in corporate recruiting, and my own journey into motherhood, I found myself being pulled back to supporting moms. As a mother who has navigated her own postpartum mood disorder, I am passionate about fostering connections and creating the supportive “villages” that families need. I have trained as a Newborn Care Specialist and Postpartum Doula, and over the past year, I have had the privilege of providing compassionate support to families in my community. I approach each family with warmth and authenticity, aiming to create a safe space where they can thrive. My goal is to empower families and help them navigate their unique journeys with confidence. I look forward to being a part of your family's support system as you embark on this incredible adventure.

Maggie is incredible. She helped care for my newborn twins when they fresh out of the NICU and my anxiety was peak levels to say the least! Not only did she provide them with excellent care which allowed me to get some much needed rest, she also had so much knowledge to share and was so reassuring. She was not only so knowledgeable and skilled with newborn care but also about postpartum care and what I needed to be doing to take care of myself. She helped with food prep, cleaning up and just generally making sure I was taken care of as well. I could not have asked for someone better to be with me and my babies in those early days!

JulieAnn worked with our family as a night nurse for our baby Cindy from birth to 10 weeks. She was reliable, gentle with our baby, and provided helpful support during the newborn stage. I was able to sleep fully sound knowing our baby was in good hands. We appreciated her assistance during those early weeks as we adjusted to life with a new baby!

— Phyllis P., review of JulieAnn Fasse-Bergeson March 2026

It is my great pleasure to recommend JulieAnn as a night nurse. She began working in our home when our daughter, Elise, was just three days old, and from the very start, she brought a sense of calm and confidence that was invaluable to us. JulieAnn has a natural ability to handle newborns with ease. She knew exactly how to calm and conform Elise, even during the fussiest moments. What impressed us most was how she never appears tired, no matter how long the night had been. Her calm presence created a peaceful environment, and her steady confidence gave us the reassurance we needed to rest and recover. Beyond her skills with newborns, JulieAnn was incredibly professional. She was always punctual, reliable, and consistent in the care she provided. At the same time, she has a genuinely positive outlook that made her a pleasure to welcome into our home. He balance of professionalism and warmth is rare, and it made a world of difference during those early, sleepless weeks. I believe any family would be fortunate to have JuliAnn’s support. She combines expertise, dependability, and a nurturing spirit that makes her truly exceptional as a night nurse. We remain grateful for all she did for our family.
