The cost of a midwife in St. Johns, FL can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Yes, insurance often covers some or all of the cost of a midwife in St. Johns, FL, but coverage depends on your specific plan, whether the midwife is in network, and whether the birth is planned at a hospital, birth center, or home. Many private insurance plans and Medicaid cover certified nurse-midwife care for prenatal visits, labor and delivery, and postpartum care, while coverage for certified professional midwives and home births is less consistent and may be limited or excluded. Typical total midwifery care costs can range from about $3,000 to $9,000 for birth center or home birth services, while hospital-based midwife care is often billed similarly to standard maternity care and may be covered after deductibles, copays, and coinsurance. To know your exact cost, you would need to check your plan’s maternity benefits, provider network, and any exclusions for out-of-hospital births.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

Rachel Sultzer

Hello there! My name is Rachel Sultzer and I am a Certified Lactation Counselor, Certified Breastfeeding Educator and Certied Postpartum and Infant Care Doula located in Jacksonville, Florida. My passion for child and family care stems from my start as a childcare provider over twenty (20) years ago. Most recently my role as full time nanny quickly reaffirmed my strength in not only caring for infants and small children, but providing comprehensive family support - especially to new and nursing mothers. After serving as a volunteer “Infant Cuddler” for at-risk infants at the UF Shands neonatal intensive care unit, my dedication to helping children was deepened even more. After watching one of my mamas struggle with breastfeeding and experience first hand the the lack of support and education from the community of people surrounding her, I knew I wanted to do more to help; I had to do more. In July 2017 I received my Lactation Counselor Certification from Healthy Children Project Inc., Center for Breastfeeding. Under the guidance and mentor-ship of Kelly Googe, with Womb to World Doula Services, I have been able to work with lots of mamas in the Jacksonville area. As a Certified Lactation Counselor and Certified Breastfeeding Educator my mission is to educate the public on the importance of breastfeeding; to encourage and empower women to make decisions that work for them and to provide guidance and support during a such a delicate but amazing time in a mama’s life. My motto will always be a happy and healthy mama will always equal a happy and healthy family! As a caregiver I have seen so many families struggle during the fourth (4th) trimester, defined as the first twelve (12) weeks after birth, and even beyond. As a Cerified Postpartum and Infant Care Doula and a Certified Lactation Counselor I strive to enable your family to find confidence by providing everyone with non-judgmental unwavering support, evidence based education and most importantly listening ears. My goal is to validate concerns, provide solutions, and offer guidance based on your family’s needs. I want all of my families to feel supported during the fourth (4th) trimester and beyond. Adding a new little one to the mix can be as equally rewarding and challenging. Let me be there to guide and support you through your new normal! My role is not limited to just mamas and their babies; I am also there to aid the entire family with this new and exciting transition.

There's so much to say about Haley so I hope I can make this all fit. She was absolutely amazing from beginning to end. For my postpartum she was there as a postpartum live-in doula the moment I called until she and I both knew I was ready to be 100% on my own. My husband was deployed when I had my little babe, so Haley had big shoes to fill & she did just that. She did everything from verbally encouraging me through my transition, to physically helping me where I needed it the most. She helped prep my meals for the days to come, she helped with my little one so I could eat on my own, shower or get some time to myself to just breathe. She was extremely understanding, sweet, compassionate & my voice when I needed to be heard. Without her, I'm not sure how my first weeks would have been. She made it so much easier for me to transition into this new role of being a mom.
She also took AMAZING newborn photos of my little babe & they are something that I will forever cherish. They captured every little detail and precious memory of my baby. She was so gentle and excellent with him. During the photos he never once made a noise and was completely comfortable the entire time. She handled everything so flawlessly from one thing to the next, you could really tell she was comfortable and knew what she was doing which allowed me to put so much trust into her & I couldn't be more grateful for her. When we decide to have another baby, Haley is the first person I am calling and I would 100% recommend her to any family or friends having a baby. She truly makes you'r experience one of kind and removes all the stress

Let me start by saying, I had no idea I even needed a doula until I met Katharine! I truly cannot define her job for you. I just don't have the words. What I do know is, Katharine listened to what I needed, took care of me and saw me through until the very end. Pregnancy and labor are both passage ways to becoming something beyond your current self. For this life transition, you're going to want Katharine! Katharine's overall presence and guidance throughout my entire pregnancy was infinitely the best thing for me, my fiancé and my baby girl! I wish she was still in LA because i’d get pregnant right now to have her with me. We love you, mama. You are everything and more!
