After witnessing a friend's birth and tending to a loved one in the hospital, I realized that doula work was calling to me. The skills (patience, calmness, humor) I learned as a teacher support me as a doula, and allow me to support you through birth and early parenthood.

Lauren is a trained postpartum doula certifying with CAPPA and holds a master's degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health where she researched perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, infant feeding, equity & doula care. I would describe myself as a dedicated and passionate birth and postpartum doula with a background in student midwifery and student nursing. With a calling in my heart from a young age, my journey began when I attended Washington Adventist University to study BS nursing in 2013. During my studies, I discovered a missionary school that offered a doula certificate program and Midwifery course, which sparked my interest and led me to pursue my true passion. Hi! I'm Jess. I've been a birth doula for over 2 years and have attended 30+ births. I came into this work having a doula myself and am lucky to call her my mentor. My approach is simple: I meet you where you are. I take the time to understand you and your family's priorities for your birth, and I offer as much (or as little!) education as you'd like. Sending along resources and recommendations tailored to what you need, when you need it. Getting ready together I offer a birth planning session where we walk through what to expect in early labor, once you arrive at your place of birth, and the options available to you during admission, pushing, newborn care, and the third stage. Depending on your desires, I can help advocate when something isn't standard practice, and I'll be right there watching for your preferences on the big day. I also offer an in-person prenatal session for you and your partner, where we go over comfort measures and gold-star labor positions (shoutout Spinning Babies!). As your due date gets closer, I help normalize and support those final weeks — encouraging rest, relaxation, and peace as you prepare to meet your baby. On the big day We're busy! I offer plenty of hands-on support — counter pressure, massage, and continued work on positions to help your baby descend. This is all with the support and collaboration of your care team which is important to create a calm, supportive envrionment. My name is Traequanda Brock and my interest in birth and postpartum doula work came about during my graduate studies in the social work program. I have been in the social work field since 2011 and graduated from Howard University with my Master of Social Work degree. I have always been passionate about equity, especially for those who are marginalized. I learned of the disparity among black women/black birthing persons and the rate at which they weren’t surviving due to birth related complications, that are completely preventable when given the right care. As I learned the huge impact doulas could have on the life of black women/black birthing persons, I knew where my calling was leading me. I am trained through the National Black Doula Association as a birth and postpartum doula. I know that my purpose is to be of service to others and that so happens to be in this field.
