As a homebirth midwife, it is my hope to facilitate an empowering environment for women to receive respectful care centered around bodily autonomy and supporting the family unit as a whole from pregnancy and birth to postpartum. My goal is to help you feel confident and informed with each choice that presents itself through out your entire time with me as your care provider. Leah Hairston (she/her) is a full-spectrum doula, perinatal social worker, lactation counselor and advocate. She educates and empowers women with female reproductive systems, reminding them of their inherent power. Her dedication to facilitating spaces for healing, equal access, and justice stems from her deep commitment to addressing the systemic reproductive injustices against Black women. She is the founder of Sweet Bee Services, a Baltimore-based doula agency that provides justice-focused, trauma-informed, family-centered care throughout DC, Maryland, and Virginia. I am a mom, daughter, a sister, an aunt, a cat mom, taco chaser, lover of travel, and a proud doula. My family and I live in the DC area, though I will always and forever remain a Georgia girl at heart. My passion has always been in healthcare and championing people to make the best decisions for themselves based on unbiased support and evidenced based information. I am a dedicated early childhood professional with more than fifteen years of experience in child development. I hold a BS degree in Early Childhood Education/ Psychology and a MS degree in Psychology. I decided I wanted to Start my birthworker journey, when my unmedicated natural birth turned into a emergency C-section. Even though, I had labored at a birth center with 2 midwives. The decides to transfer me after several days of prodromal labor. My experience at the hospital was very traumatic, and left me unaware and sad. I didn’t have anyone to talk to about my experience. But my doula encouraged me to talk about it. I realized I wanted to be for other pregnant women and make a difference in how we care for pregnant women during and after their pregnancy. As a POC birthworker, I am dedicated to help women of all walks connect better with their bodies and babies,throughout their pregnancy and postpartum journey.my mission is to prepare women by educating them about their birth rights, pregnancy/labor & medical interventions.I want women to feel more empowered and confident in every aspect about their birth.
