I certified as a Full Spectrum Birth Doula in 2021. I am a veteran birther, having had 8 babies. I have written two pregnancy books and working on third. AFTER raising 8 babies I found myself wanting to share my experiences and knowledge with other Mama's. I can tell you which of my pregncies were hydrated or dehydrated. Nearly every drink on the market comes in a plastic bottle. Juice, Water, Milk. We all have learned that microplastics is not healthy. Can we please have drinking products in aluminum cans with bpa free liners undetectable to taste or glass bottles? What are the consequences on a mothers body with added sodium and lots of plastics? When a mother consumes these products while pregnant does this put your health and your babies health on the best track? Is there a simple solution that all mothers can use? I ABSOLUTELY LOVE teaching expecting mothers the importance of hydration during Pregnancy in todays packaged and processed food world. We are all told by our medical team to drink more water and stay hydrated. BUT what does that really mean? As a birth doula I have found moms have questions that they feel are embarrassing to discus about hydration for fear of being thought ignorant. I explain to my moms that honestly that is the most important question you could ask. I break down what water does for you and your baby. We go over possible complications from dehydration. As a homebirth midwife we are eager to to learn about the family and what moves them to birth at home. We walk with the family throughout pregnancy and give as much information as we can get our hands on to share with them so they can make informed decisions about their birth care. We do all of our visits and care in home. We spend an hour or more if needed at each visit. We cherish this time of intimacy. Health, through food, exercise, and herbs, is our utmost focus. We are continually trying to learn and grow and share with our clients all we can. Some clients prefer to have co-care with an OB OR nurse midwife while others want nothing to do with any hospital care (unless a case of transport).
