I'm a Licensed Midwife (LM), Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), and board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) serving families in Spokane and Eastern Washington through The Catching House. I've spent more than 15 years in birth work and attended hundreds of births. I'm also a mom of seven, so I've been on both sides of this experience. I know how much it matters to feel heard, to have your questions answered, and to know the person who'll be there when your baby arrives. With me, you'll have the same midwife from your first visit through postpartum. Our visits are unhurried, and I'll walk you through your options, the benefits and the risks, so every decision feels like yours. Darby Merritt LM, CPM As a small-town local, I have a deep love for all things old-fashioned and being rooted in community. After spending many years on the road, my husband and I feel blessed to have settled in the PNW. We’re raising five growing children who are the light of our lives, with a focus on a deeply rooted, home-centered life—fostered at home through growing our own food, homeschooling, and spending as much time together as this beautiful life allows. Work Life – I’ve been attending births in a variety of roles since 2012. In 2016, I graduated from AAMI Midwifery School, and have been attending births ever since in a variety of roles. I currently hold an active CPM credential and am a licensed midwife in both Washington and Idaho. Hi, I’m Laine (she/her)! I am a full-spectrum doula, plant lover, and mom of two incredible little humans. My own journey - welcoming my first child in 2018, experiencing pregnancy loss, and later giving birth to my second in 2023 - deeply shaped my path and passion for birth work. Both of my births were supported by wonderful doulas, and their steady presence inspired me to offer the same kind of care to others. I am confident in my skills and services and am devoted to continued development. Since 2025 I have really focused on bringing more culture into my work and connecting with my communities. I attended the first annual Returning from the Stars conference hosted by the Center for Indigenous Midwifery and completed their Indigenous doula training. I also began a part time position aiding Spokane Tribal Network in supporting local Indigenous doulas, such as myself.
