Hi, I’m Emma—founder of Solstice Birth Co, and a birth worker with over a decade of experience supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. My journey into this work began in a deeply personal way—witnessing birth as a child, I was struck by how powerful, raw, and transformative it was. That early experience stayed with me and ultimately led me down the path of midwifery. Years later, I went on to have my own home birth with my daughter in 2009—an experience that further rooted my belief in the body’s innate wisdom and the importance of feeling safe, supported, and truly seen during birth. I went on to train as a traditionally trained midwife (CPM, LM), working hands-on with families across California and building a strong clinical and intuitive foundation in the midwifery model of care—one that honors pregnancy and birth as physiologic, sacred, and deeply human experiences. At this time, I am no longer offering home birth midwifery care. Instead, I’ve shifted into a more integrative and supportive role—one that allows me to walk alongside women and families in a deeply personalized way through Solstice Birth Co.

Good Evening Everyone, my name is Uheina Tonga. I am a certified postpartum doula, and an infant specialist/night nanny. I grew up in the Bay Area, and specifically San Mateo, but I live in Brisbane now. I have been an infant specialist/ night nanny for 20 years, and before I raised five children of my own. My favorite thing about caring for the newborn is when they come home from the hospital, and I am ready to care for them while mom is trying to get some rest. This gives me a sense of great accomplishment when I can able to earn your trust and help you get the rest you need each night. I have cared for over 100 babies in the course of 20 years. I've gained many experiences in caring for babies, but different and unique in their own way. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, whether its going on a trip to the coast, or making dinner together, or just hanging around and play board games. The need to be reassured and supported are normal and valid as well. I am an advocate for all birthing individuals. With that being said, it is my responsibility and honor to comfort and support you in labor. I will tirelessly advocate for you to have the birth you want, to answer your questions and to explain what is happening. However, I will not be taking away your power by making every decision for you. This is your body, your birth and your baby. My job as your advocate and support person is to make sure you are informed of all your options, so that you don't ever lose your rights to bodily autonomy when you walk into the hospital. As your advocate I will do my utmost to support you and your choices while explaining your options to you. You are still in control, and that is very important to me! As a postpartum doula, I never overlook the importance of following up with you after your baby's birth. I will support you in the days, weeks or even months afterward. There are many types of support I offer including, feeding support, emotional support, helping you find a rhythm, preparing meals, and holding the baby so you can sleep. Everything I do is done to empower you and help you feel confident in your new role. The most important thing I do during the postpartum period is encourage you to rest and bond with your new baby. The weeks after birth are an immensely beautiful and emotional time. This is not the time to worry about cleaning and jumping back into your normal life. It's time to rest and get to know the child you've waited so long to meet!
