I live just north of Charlotte, NC, in the Lake Norman area with my husband, 4 daughters, and lots of fur babies. As a doula and nutritionist whose practice serves the Charlotte and Lake Norman areas of North Carolina, I support birthing people improve their overall health, birth outcome, and mental wellness through the experiences of pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. I use such tools and services as childbirth education classes, doula support through pregnancy, labor/birth and postpartum, as well as nutritional guidance and education for both mother and baby. Providing these services has been shown to increase positive birth outcomes, reduce cesarean section births, reduce postpartum mental disorders such as postpartum depression/anxiety (PPD/A) and postpartum post-traumatic stress disorder, (PPTSD) increase breast/chest-feeding success and duration, and strengthen the holistic health of both parent and child. As you can see, I offer a number of different services. As a NC Licensed Nutritionist, I provide integrative and functional nutrition counseling for the entire family. I also provide doula support, including pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I am a Hypnobirthing® childbirth educator and have new classes starting monthly. The beauty of providing these services is that I can help you in one area or in many. I can see you or your family for nutritional guidance. I can see you for pregnancy and birth support, as a doula. Or we can combine these services. The possibilities are endless.

We truly cannot say enough amazing things about choosing Kim as our Sibling Doula. Leaving our 3 and 5 year olds while heading to the hospital to deliver our youngest son was something we worried about so much, but she completely eased every fear and stress we had from the moment we left. She went above and beyond to make sure our kids felt safe, loved, entertained, and excited during such a big family transition. Not only were they incredibly well cared for, but they genuinely had an absolute blast with her. She kept them happy, busy, comfortable, and made the entire experience feel fun and special for them instead of stressful or scary. Knowing our children were in such capable, caring hands allowed my husband and me to fully focus on welcoming our baby boy into the world. That peace of mind was priceless. She is honest, dependable, thoughtful, and truly gifted at what she does. We are beyond grateful for her and would recommend her to any growing family in a heartbeat.

Hi there! My name is Ava, a newly certified birth and postpartum Doula. My top priority is making sure you feel safe, supported, well cared for, and confident during this stage of your life. From planning what your ideal birth will look like, supporting you through your delivery, to caring and comforting you through the early postpartum days. Having a background in career nannying, and working closely with postpartum moms & their newborns, I get to combine my passions into serving mothers and families as a doula.

I want to give a huge shoutout to Ava Protokowicz for being such an incredible doula!💕 Going into my second birth, I honestly never thought I would be someone who wanted or needed a doula. Looking back now, I can confidently say it was 100% worth it, and I am so grateful that we had Ava by our side. Ava is one of the most kind- hearted, passionate, loving, and caring people. She is an amazing listener, has such a calm demeanor, and brings a gentle, reassuring presence that made such a difference throughout my entire birth experience. My husband and I truly do not know how we would have gotten through my second birth without her. Ava stayed by our side for 12 hours, supporting both of us every step of the way. There were several moments when I felt like I couldn’t keep going and wanted to give up on my birth plan and go straight to the hospital. Ava never pressured me or made decisions for me. Instead, she calmly reminded me of what I wanted, listened to me, encouraged me, and supported the birth plan we had discussed. Her calm voice and reassuring presence helped me find the strength to keep going. And I have to mention the phenomenal counter pressure! Between that and her constant words of encouragement, I quickly understood why having a doula can make such a difference. Ava’s support also started long before the day I gave birth. I probably sent her more texts and updates than she ever expected, but she was always patient, responsive, and wonderful at communicating with me. We also had two prenatal visits where she took the time to really understand my birth plan, my preferences, and exactly how I wanted to be supported during labor. Because of that preparation, when the day finally came, she already knew what I needed and how I wanted her to help. Ava didn’t just show up for my birth—she took the time to get to know me, listen to me, advocate for what I wanted, and help me feel supported and confident during one of the biggest moments of my life. If you’re considering having a doula, I cannot recommend Ava enough. Having her there was one of the best decisions we made for my birth experience. Thank you again, Ava, for everything you did for me and my family. We will always be so grateful for you! 💕

A Sacred Homecoming After 20 Years” I didn’t know how much I needed this. It’s been over 20 years since I gave birth, and yet my body—my womb—had been holding things I didn’t even realize. Grief. Silence. Stories. Experiencing the Closing Bones Ceremony with Dr. Soul was like being wrapped in love and truth all at once. She held space with such deep reverence, like she was listening not just to my words but to the parts of me I forgot how to speak from. This wasn’t just about healing from birth—it was about honoring the journey I never paused to feel. I walked away feeling lighter, more whole, more connected to myself as a woman. Dr. Soul’s spiritual presence, her grounded energy, and her ability to see beyond the surface—it’s something rare. This ceremony was closure, yes. But also rebirth. If you’re holding unspoken stories in your body, even decades later, let her guide you back home to yourself.

I'm a midwife who found her calling after the births of her children. Truly a life changing experience it formed and shaped my practice and made me into the provider I am. Always learning and growing it's such a privilege to serve all families as they welcome the birth of a child. I homeschool my kids and love to read and raise ducks and geese on the side. Hiking and traveling with my kids is my other passion and as babies allow we travel the US and I get to share the beautiful country we live in with my kids via road trips and National Parks.

Recent review

Mya was my midwife for the birth of my daughter in August of 2025. I had an amazing experience with her, from beginning to end! She was very knowledgeable about the whole birth process, explained everything thoroughly, and was kind and understanding when I expressed any concerns. After a very intense labor, we ended up having to transfer to the hospital due to lack of progression. My baby had her cord wrapped around her neck several times, which caused a number of complications. Mya stayed by my bedside the entire time, to help me advocate for what I needed. Even in these deviations from our original birth plan, she brought the confidence and knowledge I needed to make the best decisions for me and my baby. I am so thankful Mya was my midwife! I cannot imagine what my birth would have been like without her. I definitely plan on using her again in the future as we expand our family. If you are looking for a compassionate, thorough, well-trained midwife, Mya is the one for you!

Marcia has been such a blessing to my new little family. My husband and I are young first time parents. We knew we wanted extra support for the birth of our son, and from the time we met Marcia. We knew she was the right fit for us. She has been available for support 24/7 from the moment we signed on to work with her and even now with me in the 4th trimester. She played such an instrumental role in my pregnancy & birthing experience. From her evidence based research that she supplied us with, in order to allow us as parents to be knowledgeable/make the best decision for our family. All the way to just being a listening ear. I could go on and on but I will just say, I am so happy we invested in the birthing bee. The value we received was priceless

Karen Wallace

We have had 9 natural beautiful Bradley® births, and every one of them was an incredible experience. When I was pregnant with our first child, we took Bradley® classes together in Manhattan, where we lived at the time. Jeff learned how to be an effective labor coach. We gained a deeper understanding of birth and baby care—and things we did not even realize we needed to know, from the stages of labor to breastfeeding, to how to avoid unnecessary interventions. Teaching Bradley® classes is something we really enjoy. They are fun, interactive, and empowering for expectant couples. Jeff brings a bit of humor to the classes and draws from his experience as a father, husband, and coach. After 20 years of teaching in-person classes in four different states—Connecticut, New Jersey, California, and North Carolina—we transitioned to teaching online. Now, we have couples attending from all over the United States. Couples can take our classes from the comfort of their own homes—or wherever they are. Online Bradley® classes are so convenient. Over the years we have learned how to effectively convey information to expecting women and their partners so that they are prepared to give birth and know how to advocate for themselves, if they need arises. Our classes include games, break-out rooms so you can interact with the other couples in your Bradley® series, positive birth stories, and ample opportunities to ask questions. I gave birth to my first child at the age of 24 and gave birth to my ninth child at the age of 48. I have given birth in a hospital, a freestanding birth center, and at home. My most challenging births were my sixth and eighth babies. Our classes our appropriate for those planning hospital births, home births, and freestanding birth center births. We also provide information to VBAC moms, couples expecting twins, and parents who already have one, two, or more children.

Karen and Jeff were great instructors! Every class was very laid back and informative. Having a class of other pregnant couples really makes the class feel like a little community. The amount of information you learn makes you feel prepared to meet your little one!

— Jessica Z., review of Emmabele Hodges September 2026

Emmabele is a knowledgeable and professional Doula. She helped my wife write a birth plan, spoke with the doctors regarding the best course of action during my wife’s 24- hour labor. She also helped us with sleep routines, breastfeeding techniques and different birthing techniques. Emmabele responds to texts promptly and always answers the phone for any questions we may have. I would recommend her services to anyone. Thank you!
