I stumbled into the role of birth attendant in my early twenties by being the peace bringer and atmosphere regulator to all my girlfriends who were having babies. I gave birth to my first just a month after turning 17 and had the wonderful favor of a peaceful birth attendant who did more than rock my hips during labor, she strengthened my resolve and spoke to my body directly, encouraging through the rough parts and tuned my heart to find joy even in the pain.
