Heidi Terpening

27 years of experience

Hi, I’m Heidi Terpening, CFSD, BPCE, founder of Azure Coast Doula. I am a maternal-child health clinician with over 27 years of nursing experience supporting individuals and families across the full continuum of care. My nursing career has taken me through NICU, labor and delivery, postpartum recovery, maternal-child health, pediatrics, community health, and school nursing. In these roles, I have supported families through routine and high-risk pregnancies, medically complex births, NICU admissions, postpartum recovery, and the many transitions that come with welcoming and caring for a new baby. These experiences have given me a deep respect for both the clinical and emotional sides of perinatal care, and a strong commitment to evidence-based practice, patient advocacy, and family-centered support. Over time, I came to understand that families often need more than medical care alone—they need continuity, reassurance, education, and someone who can help them feel grounded during moments of uncertainty. This understanding led me to full-spectrum doula work, where I now combine my clinical background with continuous emotional, physical, and educational support. Through Azure Coast Doula, I walk alongside families during pregnancy, birth, postpartum recovery, pregnancy loss, NICU stays, and medically complex situations. My role is to provide calm, consistent presence and clear, evidence-based information so families can feel informed, supported, and confident in their decisions. I strive to meet each family exactly where they are, honoring their unique needs, values, and experiences without judgment. In addition to doula support, I offer placenta encapsulation, newborn education, and hands-on newborn care guidance. These services are rooted in my nursing experience and are designed to ease the transition from hospital to home, helping parents feel more prepared and confident as they begin life with their new baby. The name Azure Coast Doula was inspired by the calm strength and resilience of the Adriatic coast of Croatia—a place that reflects the energy I hope to bring into every family’s experience. My work is grounded in clinical expertise, steady presence, and compassionate care, with the belief that every family deserves to feel supported, respected, and never alone in their journey. It is an honor to support families through some of life’s most meaningful and transformative moments.

I support families in the weeks and months after baby arrives. In person, virtually, all across Hampton and the surrounding NH towns, southern Maine, and the North Shore of MA. Most nights I'm in your home while you sleep. I handle the feeds, the diaper changes, the 3am stuff, so you can actually rest instead of running on empty. Daytime shifts look different depending on what you need that day. Some families want a hand with the baby. Some want help around the house. Some just want someone there who knows what they're doing. I used to get tangled up in the idea that paid support wasn't as real as a village showing up for free, but I don't anymore. When I was in it myself, some of the people who showed up were paid and some weren't. In the moment, I didn't care which was which. I was just glad someone was there. What matters is whether the person in your house is actually present with you, not just going through the motions. That's what I try to be.

Kourtney is gift to the postpartum world. We will forever be grateful for her help in our first nights as new parents and her continued support to this day. Her calm demeanor immediately put us at ease and we felt so comfortable knowing that our baby was under her care during her overnight stays. She is incredibly organized and knowledgeable. We loved that she created a live notes doc to update us on our son and also provided us links and information on questions we had asked. Kourtney wants the best for families and we truly felt this support. Even just recently she met with me to go over a carseat concern I had and was able to fix the problem in minutes. We love Kourtney and could not recommend working with her more!

Nurturing the Whole Family I meet you exactly where you are, offering guidance, reassurance, resources, and space to rest, heal, and adjust while caring for your newborn. I support not just the baby, but you and your household as a whole—without judgment. With ongoing, compassionate support, families feel grounded, capable, informed, and truly cared for. My role is to provide steady, thoughtful guidance as your family settles into your new rhythm, helping you navigate the joys and challenges of early parenthood with confidence and calm. Great News for Parents! We are proud to offer postpartum care that can be reimbursed by insurance. For families with Blue Cross Blue Shield, you can receive up to 15 hours of postpartum care, valued at $1,500, reimbursed at the end of your journey. We also bill Carrot Insurance and Maven Insurance, and we are in the process of joining the United Healthcare network. To use Blue Cross or United benefits, you must work with a board-certified perinatal doula in Rhode Island—which I am! This means you can focus on your postpartum recovery while we handle the paperwork and ensure your care is covered.

Marianna came into our lives on maybe our most vulnerable night, the day we came home with newborn twins. She immediately put us at ease, and calmed our precious, screaming potatoes so that we could finally get some rest. She cooked delicious food, from quick snacks to hearty meals, and always left the kitchen clean and orderly. We contracted with her for 2 nights a week, which was a nice schedule to feel supported while we figured it out on our own. I was initially skeptical on whether we needed a post-partum doula (clearly I never had twins before), but in the end it was more than worth it. I would recommend Gimme Sleep to anyone, and wish Marianna the best!

Nicolette Meinert

6 years of experience

Hi, I’m Nicolette Meinert, the founder of Family In Bloom. I have worked with children and families since 1997, when I completed my first American Red Cross babysitting course. My path in early childhood care began in Wakefield, Massachusetts, where I volunteered in summer-school and after-school programs while attending Galvin Middle School. I went on to study Early Childhood Education at Wakefield Memorial High School. Since graduating in 2004, I have worked as an infant, toddler, and preschool teacher and as a full-time nanny, caring for children at many stages of development. I bring nearly three decades of experience, a calm presence, and deep respect for the trust families place in me. Newborn & Family Care My greatest passion is supporting families during the newborn stage and helping parents feel more confident as they adjust to life with a baby. Through Family In Bloom, I provide overnight infant care, postpartum support, newborn-care guidance, and thoughtful care tailored to each family’s routines, values, and needs. I have cared for several sets of twins and understand the distinct needs of multiples and the practical support their families often need. Whether you are welcoming your first baby, growing your family, or navigating a more complex newborn experience, my goal is to offer dependable, compassionate, and safety-centered support. Specialized Infant Experience I hold a special place in my heart for medically complex and premature newborns. My experience includes supporting infants with NG tubes, G tubes, and oxygen needs, as well as premature babies born as early as 30 weeks’ gestation. My commitment to this work grew while caring for premature twins who were born at 30 weeks’ gestation. That experience reinforced my belief that families caring for babies who need extra support deserve skilled, steady, and compassionate care. I work within my role and collaborate respectfully with each family’s established medical team and care plan. Safety-Centered Support Safety is a central part of my work. As an American Red Cross First Aid/CPR Instructor Trainer and Child Passenger Safety Technician, I enjoy helping families build practical skills and confidence around everyday safety. My approach combines continued education, careful attention to each child, and support that feels encouraging rather than overwhelming. Education, Training & Certifications My education and professional development include training and certification in: Early Childhood & Family Care - Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care infant, toddler, and preschool teacher - CAPPA Postpartum Doula - Newborn Care Solutions Newborn Care Specialist - Infant and Child Training Academy Multiples Care Specialist Infant Safety & Wellness - Safe Kids Child Passenger Safety Technician - Safe Sleep Ambassador - American Red Cross First Aid/CPR Instructor Trainer - Medication Technician Feeding & Specialized Infant Support - Infant Feeding Technician - Pediatric Tube Feeding - Oral Ties - Infant Mental Health - SleepWonders Integrative Course for Professionals

I’m a Homebirth midwife who also loves to serve as a doula. I have years of experience with unmedicated, natural births, but can also support in any context. I believe every birthing person deserves compassion, love, and kindness as they bring a baby through. I’m here to listen to your desires, help educate you on the options you have, and stand by you through your birthing/early parenting process. I’ve attended over 400 births and counting :) When not at a birth I spend my days playing with my son, hiking with my dog, cooking and exploring. Happy to help as a birth or postpartum doula, homebirth midwife, or lactation specialist.

If you're in search of someone well-versed in both holistic care and Western scientific knowledge, with a non-judgmental approach, Jessy is an exceptional choice. After interviewing three different midwifery practices, it became evident that Jessy Bready not only brought an incredible depth of experience but also had an extensive network of support to draw upon. I was looking for someone who had a warm, grounded presence, someone who could geek out about science while also delving into herbal remedies and the phases of the moon. Someone who truly saw the journey to motherhood as a magical union of heaven and earth. With Jessy, I experienced the most remarkable pregnancy journey. I cherished our monthly check-ups, which often included my husband, and were filled with questions and answers. She referred us to an excellent maternal fetal medicine doctor for all the tests I chose to undergo, including ultrasounds, which complemented our primarily non-hospital midwifery care. When the time for childbirth arrived, Jessy went above and beyond, assisting my husband in supporting me through my water labor. She provided gentle guidance and touch, and after about 30 hours of intense labor with no progress, we faced a decision. While I had dreamt of a homebirth, Jessy and her team helped me make the tough choice to transfer to the hospital for pain management at 3 am. She made me feel empowered for listening to my body and inner voice, rather than shaming me for not being able to proceed at home. Jessy joined us at the hospital, explaining the forthcoming procedures and seamlessly translating medical terminology for the doctors. Her confidence was evident, and the doctors respected her knowledge. While I believed our prenatal care was exceptional, it was Jessy's postpartum and breastfeeding support that truly amazed me. In the six weeks following our baby's birth, Jessy proved to be an invaluable asset to our family. She helped my milk come in, taught me how to latch, and provided emotional support. She even offered medical assistance when my blood pressure was slightly higher than normal. Not having to leave my home and venture into a doctor's office with my newborn for the first six weeks (except for our initial doctor's visit) was absolutely incredible! Having Jessy as a part of our birthing team was not only incredible for me but also for my husband and our baby girl. We are eternally grateful for the way she prepared us for parenthood, and we believe that everyone should have access to the level of care she provided. Although we didn't have a homebirth, my birthing experience was everything I had ever hoped for. Thank you, Jessy!!! <3

Rooted in a deep love for community, I actively engage with organizations that empower women and girls, connecting them to vital resources and opportunities. Birth is a transformative journey that deeply affects an individual on emotional, physical, and spiritual levels. I believe that preparing for and experiencing birth empowers and illuminates not only women, but everyone involved in the process.

I honestly can’t say enough great things about Doula Kayanna James. She was recommended to me by a family member, and from the very first conversation, I could tell why she’s so loved and respected in the community. From start to finish, she was such a calming, supportive presence throughout my pregnancy and birth experience. Kayanna went above and beyond to make sure I felt prepared, confident, and cared for. She signed me up for classes that taught me so much about labor and what to expect as a first-time mom, things I would have never known otherwise. When it came time to give birth, she was right there with me, offering amazing tips and techniques to help me cope through the pain and stay focused. Her voice, her encouragement, and her gentle guidance helped me stay grounded through every contraction. What really stood out to me was how much she truly cares. She checked in on me before and after the birth, making sure I was healing well and adjusting to motherhood. It didn’t feel like I was working with a service; it felt like I had someone in my corner who genuinely wanted the best for me and my baby. If you’re thinking about having a doula, I can’t recommend Kayanna James enough. She’s knowledgeable, compassionate, and truly dedicated to the families she supports. You can tell she loves what she does, and it shows in every way. I’m beyond grateful for her guidance and care, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
