My name is Kayla, and I am a Washington State Certified Birth Doula. I completed a Birth Doula training with Sharon Muza, a DONA approved trainer, and a Postpartum Doula training through Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings (BADT). I am also completing my Birth and Postpartum Certification through NAPS Doulas. I am a Birth Doula with Open Arms and the Co-Director of NAPS Doulas. I strive to provide compassionate care to parents and families throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. I believe every family deserves to have evidence-based information and continuous physical and emotional support regardless of their financial status. I am an empathetic, kind, and passionate doula and feel lucky to support birthing families. I love the opportunity to empower new parents and help them recognize and achieve their goals for birth and postpartum. I connect deeply with my clients and care for them as if they are my own family.

Kayla was both my birth and postpartum doula and I had an incredible experience with her for both. Before birth she did classes with my husband and I so that we would feel more prepared on things like the labor process and infant care. During these she was incredibly knowledgeable. She had lots of information prepared and also answered any and all questions we had. She clearly put a lot of thought into what information was important to go over and I left feeling much more knowledgeable than before. During my labor experience she was supportive, caring, and knowledgeable every step of the way. I had a very long labor that ended in an unplanned c section and I feel like without her the experience would've felt impossible. She not only supported me but also supported my husband during this experience and he feels strongly that she made our experience so much better by being there. She also was my postpartum doula. I completely trusted her with care of my newborn and she did an amazing job. I tend to be an anxious person but she is someone i feel 100% comfortable around. My daughter loves her and she took great care of her. She also was very knowledgeable and supportive during this time and had many tips that made the postpartum period much easier. I'll always be grateful for her and I would recommend her to anyone.

I believe birth is not just a physical event - it’s a sacred, life-changing moment that shapes families for years to come. Hi y'all! My name is Kaolin (Mi Cha) Cummins, and I am a multi-doula (certified birth doula, postpartum doula, multiracial, multilingual, 2-spirit, multi-momma, etc.) who primarily serves the Kitsap area, traveling up to 40mi. to the surrounding areas to provide care for QTBIPOC families. I am originally from South Carolina, and grew up all around the south, eventually moving to Kitsap due to the military. I've been here a while, but I'll always call the Carolinas my home. I am passionate about all things related to the cycle of life, from women's health to preconception, conception, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, life changes, and beyond. I've always had the calling to help others, and have been in caregiving(focused work with children with special needs and the elderly/disabled)/medical-related fields prior to becoming a doula. I realized after my second baby that my calling in life is to be a source of education, positivity, and support for new (and pro) parents through these changes, as one can never have or give too much support. I noticed the lack of QTBIPOC doulas in my area and realized that the lack of representation and access to providers that looked and lived like me was common everywhere, and that just won't do! Outside of being a doula, I am focused on pursuing a career as a CNM (Nurse Midwife) and am determined to mesh the Indigenous & Asian cultural practices I grew up with and the scientific and medicinal knowledge I am currently learning. I hope that in bridging both "worlds", we can foster person-focused care that will assist in creating fewer medical interventions in birth, and also provide exceptional care to parents who need medically necessary care but otherwise would not be able to attain it in other circumstances(i.e., low-income/wage disparity, inaccessibility to a provider of color, and LGBTQ+ conscious medical professionals, etc.). I believe access to information is one of the key players in having a successful birth/parental journey. I strive to create a judgment-free practice, to serve as a provider who assists in these beautiful changes in life. My goal is to leave the world better than I found it and to provide parents/caregivers with the informational and emotional support they need to get through life's events. You don't have to do it alone! Outside of doula work/becoming a midwife, I love spending time with my own little family, and doing anything creative/expressionist! I am a bit of an introvert, but you might catch me on the dance floor if the music's good!
