Today, as both a mother and grandmother, I've had the privilege of watching motherhood unfold across generations. That's why I believe good doula care begins with listening. I was drawn to doula work because I wanted to provide women with the kind of steady, compassionate support that can be so meaningful during labor and birth. My approach is especially centered around comfort care and birth coaching. I help mothers explore different labor positions, movement, relaxation and comfort techniques while also providing the emotional encouragement that can be just as important during labor. I don't believe my role is to take over your birth experience. I'm there to walk beside you. To encourage you when labor becomes difficult. To help you find another position when something isn't working. To remind you of your strength when you're tired. To listen to what you need. And, when desired, to pray with you and bring the comfort of our shared Christian faith into the birth space.

I became a Certified Lactation Counselor in 2018, completed the Clinical and Communication Lactation Specialist training in 2021, and then passed the International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant exam in 2023. I'm certified as a birth and postpartum doula by Lifespan Doulas. Love for my own family and my community has led me to focus on health education, promoting awareness of human lactation, and assisting in extending breastfeeding duration and exclusivity for the families I serve. I have more two decades of training and practice as a Maternal Child Health Specialist. For nearly a decade, I worked in a private practice in New York, where nearly a thousand families are served each year, before moving to the greater Detroit area. I sat boards and became certified as an IBCLC in 2010. My university education was uniquely focused on the history of women and infant health care and nutrition as well as practical assessment and support of new families. I have helped women conquer the often challenging stages of lactation. From issues with newborn latching to pain and increasing milk production, I have worked with women to help them have successful nursing experiences – whatever that means for them. As a guest lecturer at medical schools, I have been called upon to teach medical students, interns, and residents in pediatrics and obstetrics about lactation, and have been called in by obstetricians and pediatricians to consult on breastfeeding topics. I earned my Bachelors of Science in Maternal and Child Health and Lactation Consulting at the Union Institute and University of Cincinnati, OH. I am the mother of six and nursed them all for a combined total of over 14 years!
