Congratulations! My name is Alyssa. I've been a doula since 2013. I became a doula shortly after the birth of my first born when I experienced a tremendous lack of support. I felt alone and isolated and overwhelmed with the contradicting information online. After connecting with other moms within the community, I learned that I wasn't an outlier and this experience was far too common. I studied with Penny Lyon and Ann Pollack in 2013 and became certified with DONA shortly after. Later in 2013, I began working at a local birth center as a midwife assistant to further my medical training. It reaffirmed that I was meant to be a doula serving families within my community. As a certified yoga instructor since 2006, I started integrating Prenatal yoga and doula work. It truly felt like the most comprehensive way to support families by bringing them affective and age old tools to cope with labor pains. Since 2013, I've proudly served over 1000 families. I'm the co-founder of In Joy Birth, a doula training company/agency located in Orlando, Florida. In 2023, I moved my family to the greater Denver area to be close to the mountains where I am currently serving families. Hi All! I am Cheryl Small, a Birth & Postpartum Doula and Childbirth Educator serving families in northern Colorado. Three decades ago I had my first baby via cesarean and my next three babies were born naturally at home attended by midwives, which was a decision that changed the course of my life. I am passionate about all things natural health and believe the body has the ability to perform beyond what our minds can comprehend. This includes physiological birth. The body knows what to do. Does that mean every birth goes accordingly? Not always. But I have found the biggest obstacle is not the body, but the mind, so when prepared with education, tools, support and informed decision making, the chances of obtaining your desired birth are greater. I have supported over 60 births in the last 2.5 years at home, in birthing centers and hospitals and would love to walk alongside you through pregnancy, labor, delivery and ALL things postpartum.
