The cost of a midwife in Wilmington, DE can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Delaware Medicaid covers certified nurse-midwife care for Wilmington residents, including prenatal visits, birth attendance, and postpartum services. Benefits for licensed or certified professional midwives who attend home or birth-center deliveries depend on the individual Medicaid plan. The local market is modest, with three midwives listed within 60 miles of Wilmington. Private insurance coverage varies, so check your plan’s provider network and maternity benefits.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

We are so thankful to have found Madhu going into my second pregnancy. I was looking for support and encouragement as I prepared mentally for VBAC, and I really felt aligned with how Madhu presented her methods. Leading up to delivery, Madhu instructed me on very specific exercises, movement, stretches, and breath work to optimize my posture and calm my nervous system. We met in-person and practiced these moves together to better prepare my husband and I for labor and delivery. As my due date approached, Madhu kept in touch and maintained such a supportive presence, reminding me that things will happen naturally, and to give my body the time and space it needed for spontaneous labor. I found that her simple and steady communication at this point in my pregnancy had the most value. Her support kept me from doubting myself and allowed me to establish the right mindset. Because I had a C-section with my first pregnancy, I didn’t know what to expect with labor pains or even the onset of spontaneous labor as I was previously induced with pitocin and felt quick intense pain. This time around, my water spontaneously broke (at 40 weeks + 5 days) and contractions started soon after. Madhu met my husband and I at the hospital and immediately went into action by helping me work through positions to manage the discomfort. Keeping an open mind and knowing my experience could still result in another C-section, I really felt comfortable having my support systems in place which ultimately helped my mindset along the way. I truly believe I was able to consequently push through some difficult labor pains. Ultimately I ended up having the birth that I wished for, and I’m so thankful for taking each contraction as a moment to work through! Thank you Madhu!

Grace Kovitch

3 years of experience
Packages from $75 · $35/hr

My name is Grace Kovitch and I am a certified birth and postpartum doula, as well as craniosacral therapy practitioner located in Emmaus, Pennsylvania. When I started off as a birth doula, I quickly saw the drop off in care that happened with postpartum mothers, and have dedicated my career to making sure every new mom is educated, supported, and cared for. Postpartum support is truly where my heart is, and I love seeing the moment where a new mom starts to feel confident in her new role. When I'm not supporting families, you can find me hiking, backpacking, or spending time with my loved ones.

Recent review

I am delighted to recommend Grace Kovitch as a postpartum doula. Her sweet nature, care and compassion, and knowledge of newborns made her truly invaluable to our family throughout our daughter’s first four months. Her presence allowed our family to rest, recover, and truly enjoy the precious moments with our newborn. From the moment she stepped into our home, Grace provided a calming presence and a great knowledge about newborn care. She not only assisted with practical needs—such as soothing techniques, infant care, and light household tasks—but also provided the emotional support and reassurance that every new parent needs. Her warm and nurturing nature made all the difference during such a transformative time. (We knew she was the perfect fit for our family when our doberman wouldn’t leave her side! He now waits for her every night!) Additionally, her punctuality and reliability show the level of care she possesses for her clients. I wholeheartedly recommend Grace to any family in need of postpartum support. She is an incredible resource, and any family would be beyond lucky to have her by their side during the postpartum journey.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about OS Care Service. From the very beginning, Olga made me feel supported, informed, and truly cared for. Her calm presence and deep knowledge helped ease my anxieties throughout my pregnancy and especially during labor. She provided not only physical comfort techniques but also emotional support that made such a difference in my birthing experience. Olga was attentive, patient, and always available when I had questions or needed reassurance. After the birth, her newborn care support was just as incredible—she helped me feel more confident as a new parent and made the transition so much smoother. If you are looking for someone who is compassionate, professional, and genuinely passionate about what she does, I highly recommend OS Care Service. Having Olga as my doula was one of the best decisions I made for myself and my baby.

Iris Wilson

Iris Wilson

Hi, my name is Iris, and I am a doula in the Philadelphia area! My driving philosophy is that it takes a village--and for many years, I delved into that through nannying, helping parents care and raise their littles, but now my goal has been to rewind a little--and focus on the foundation of where that starts. With the parents and the births! As a doula, I am here to support you in your journey to parenthood! While that may look different depending on your family's needs, it generally means I am here to support you in figuring out what a satisfying birth looks like to you and to advocate for you during the stress of labor, so that you may focus on the labor itself! So while I am newer to the doula realm, I am a veteran in "being the village" and supporting growing families--I can't wait to support yours! I am currently offering discounts for my first ten clients and payment plans/sliding scale is always available as well! Feel free to email with inquiries regarding services or availability at Imwfamilysupport@gmail.com.

Iris was a great help with our kids this summer! She’s very hands on with whatever activity they’re getting into and has built such a great connection with them. They are always so excited on days she comes in and this is especially true when she brings her daughter—who, as far as they’re concerned, is just there for a playdate! Having the extra hand made such a difference over the 3 months as made the move from our old home to our new one! We wish her the best of luck!

I'm a lactation consultant located in Wilmington, Delaware and a single mother to two sons. Yes, I nursed them both. (Yes, for years.) I’m passionate about many things, one of the primary being mothers and people who birth babies. Helping them discover how amazing their bodies are through breastfeeding is deeply fulfilling, as is accompanying couples as they learn to parent together, growing closer and becoming stronger. While you are with me, you will experience total attention from a kind and non-judgmental listener. My goal is to help you feel confident in the choices you are making, whatever they are. We will find a way to keep you and your baby safe, happy, and healthy, however that looks for you. At The Golden Hour, you belong.

Rachel is a godsend!!! This is my second child, so I thought breastfeeding would be “easy”. But this breastfeeding journey has thrown every type of hurdle at us. Rachel has been our biggest supporter throughout every challenge - helping us navigate ties, bottle refusal, mastitis, low weight gain, low supply. I was able to build my supply up and establish a good breastfeeding rhythm that supports my baby and myself all through Rachel’s guidance. Her knowledge and research on breastfeeding guidelines is outstanding, yet her approach is far from clinical. Her demeanor is warm and inviting, and she always makes sure to check in on how we’re doing overall, not just from a feeding perspective. I truly do not know where I would be in my breastfeeding journey or postpartum without her, and I’m so grateful to have to opportunity to work with her.
