To me birth is a very sacred experience that should be treated as such. Before stepping into the role of a midwife, I spent nearly three years as a labor and delivery nurse in a hospital setting. It provided me with a solid foundation and invaluable experience, but I slowly came to realize that my values did not align with the hospital culture. When I moved to San Diego in 2018 I decided to leave the hospital and pursue my dream of becoming a midwife. During my training I truly fell in love with home birth. Witnessing a baby enter this world in the very place they will grow up is an incredibly special and sacred experience that deeply touches my heart. Hello! My name is Crystal Strawn. I am a Certified Nurse Midwife in Arlington, Texas. I attend birth center births at Birth and Wellness Center of Arlington and home births throughout the DFW area. I have been a midwife since late 2021 with a 10 year history as a labor and delivery nurse prior to becoming a midwife. I am an advocate for natural, physiologic birth. I’m Em - mama of many, wife to my best friend and new homestead-er. I created my photography business in 2018 not knowing exactly what I wanted to capture, I just knew I wanted to help those in my community save their memories for a lifetime. A Dallas native, Madison was inspired to be a doula as far back as elementary school when she and her older sister watched TLC’s A Baby Story in the early 2000s. Madison completed DONA International Training March 2020. Since 2020, Madison has assisted mothers through VBACs, C-Sections, vaginal births with and without epidurals, home births, birthing center births and hospital births. Madison passionately encourages all pregnant mothers to have a doula who advocates for and is totally focused on the mother’s desires, comfort, and endurance. She builds a relationship her clients before, during and after birth experiences and stays up-to-date on the latest techniques and tools to make the birthing process the best it can be. Madison is a placenta encapsulator and loves talking about all things related to birth. Madison has worked as a nanny for many years since college and has a flexible schedule. I am a new Doula and have completed a Dona approved Doula training. My work background is mostly rooted in hospitality, customer service and yoga. I have always had a passion for caring for others and creating a fulfilling experience. I am a labor/postpartum support serving families in the DFW area. My pursuit to maternal health education began six years ago when I experienced a homebirth of my third child. The following year, I supported a community member birth at the hospital and witnessed the differences between midwife facilitating brith at home and a midwife facilitating birth at a hospital. My research to find answers led me to learning about the history and the foundation of obstetrics in the United States. It has been my mission since then to support women experience pregnancy and labor as educated beings no matter where they decide to have a baby. My passion for this work aligns with my Faith, Islam. Therefore, as I serve families I focus on spirituality as well as science of birth.
