I am a Birth Doula and Lactation Specialist serving the Chicagoland area. I have three kiddos ages 3, 6, and 7, and I have been married to my wonderful husband Eli for 8 years. I am a native Chicagoan and call the Northwest side of the city my home. I have a Bachelor’s in Health Science, hold two Birth Doula certifications from accredited certifying organizations, and have received specialized training in Lactation, Spinning Babies, and High-risk Pregnancy Support. Additionally, I am CPR certified and an Evidence-Based Birth® Professional. With hundreds of hours of prenatal, birth, and postpartum support I have walked alongside over 100 families throughout the Chicagoland area preparing them for their birth and postpartum experience. My experience spans a wide variety of birth settings and situations. This includes unmedicated home births, medicated hospital births, elective inductions, medically necessary inductions (for preE, choleostasis, GDM, IUGR, etc.), planned cesareans, VBACs, and high-risk pregnancy births. I frequently attends births at Prentice, Evanston, Rush, Hinsdale, Masonic, and many other Chicago hospitals. My heart is to meet each family exactly where they are, offering personalized resources, thoughtful guidance, and steady support through every ebb and flow of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I bring warmth, compassion, and evidence-based care to every family I serve. When I’m not at a birth or meeting families for a prenatal visit, you can find me outdoors bopping around at the nearest forest preserve with my troops, visiting local farmers market on a Sunday morning, rollerskating not-so-gracefully around my neighborhood, or cozying up with a good read

First time pregnancy and I will NEVER deliver without her! 💟 The support, encouragement and knowledge that is given by Elly is beyond reassuring! Her assistance with exercises and stretches to alleviate pelvic pain and/or hip pain was such a relief! She not only told/demonstrated which ones would help best, but she also involved my partner and assisted teaching him on how to help me when I was in pain. Most importantly, in the delivery room she was SUCH a help in advocating what I wanted my birth to look like. Which took a huge weight off of mine & my partner’s shoulders and allowed us to really be present in that beautiful moment. I am forever grateful to her. She has checked up on me multiple times during my postpartum and offered resources for any further assistance I felt I needed (lactation consulting, etc.).

Mayra Elisa was my Doula about 2 years ago to assist me with the delivery of my first baby. She was amazing! I have been a Labor & Delivery Nurse for 8 years and while I have a wealth of knowledge and debated getting a doula in the first place, I'm SO glad I did. I was able to have someone on my side that validated and supported me. She helped me labor prior to getting an epidural so that my husband could take a nap. This 2-3 hour nap recharged my husband so he could be present for the birth and him being well rested contributed to him gently reminding the the team my accurate pushing time as they thought I had been pushing longer than I had been, preventing me from getting a C-section. Also at the very end prior to giving birth it was likely that I was going to need a C-section as her head was slightly sideways so she wasn't coming down the pelvic outlet enough for a safe vacuum assisted delivery after almost 4 hours of pushing. Thankfully my baby was doing well and not in distress and I had no fever but I understood if we needed to have a c-section it made sense. Mayra had then suggested one last pushing position we hadn't tried yet (We had tried EVERYTHING) and directed my nurse and husband into that pushing position (closed-knee! its a great position!) 4 pushes later my baby's head turned and got past the pelvic bone and I was able to have a vaginal delivery!! Even with all of my clinical experience having a doula by my side helped me so much. As a disclaimer- You are not guaranteed a vaginal birth just because you have a doula, a C-section may be the safest way for you to give birth. However, an experienced doula will definitely improve your chances of a vaginal delivery and regardless of how you choose or how your labor/baby chooses your delivery for you, Mayra is amazing. She respects your wishes and validates you and helps you come up with questions for your midwife and doctor and helps inform your partner and yourself on what to expect next and helps answer your questions. She has experience guiding people through C-sections, Complicated labors, hospital and home births. She offers you her thoughts on the different options for giving birth, but never imposes one agenda and helps you based on what you are looking for. She also can answer your questions on breastfeeding, pumping and formula feeding and doesn't make you feel like you need to pick one way or another and just supports you all the way with your choices. Also, her being bilingual (Spanish speaking) and bicultural was such a plus. Having her in the labor room with me was important to me, while I was born and raised in the U.S. my first language is Spanish and my family is from Peru, so having her by my side felt like having a sister or aunt with me and she was familiar with a lot of the cultural remedies and ideas.

I met Heather when my baby girl was just three days old. As a first-time mom with no family around, I needed support during my postpartum period, and Heather's exceptional care was truly invaluable from day one. She taught me everything from changing diapers to bathing my baby. Heather approached parenting as a trial and error process, guiding me through different methods, such as finding the best way to swaddle my baby, understanding that every baby is unique. Her calming presence was instrumental in helping me cope with the significant identity shift and potential postpartum depression that new moms often face. I wholeheartedly recommend Heather for her expertise, compassion, and unwavering support

We interviewed a few doulas before choosing Damiana, and she immediately stood out as someone who really understood us and made us feel comfortable. She was warm, thoughtful, and even offered a reference, which was really helpful in making our decision. We started working with her about 2.5months before the birth, and she was incredibly supportive throughout. She met with us weekly, helped us put together a solid birth plan, and really took the time to make sure we felt emotionally ready (not just prepared for labor, but ready for the whole experience). Also, she met us at the hospital shortly after we arrived at the hospital when I went into labor and was incredibly supportive. It was our 1st birth, and having her there to guide both me and my husband through everything made a huge difference. She was so reassuring and helpful. I honestly can’t imagine doing it without her. So grateful to have had Damiana as part of our birth team. Highly recommend her to anyone looking for a thoughtful and truly supportive birth doula.

I had such an amazing experience with Tamanno as my Doula. I was about 35 weeks and nearing the end of my pregnancy after a big move across states. I was overwhelmed trying to find a doula last minute , in a new state. I found Tamy through my insurance and we both Immediately found out that we were the right fit . I spoke about my birth story and what I was trying for. Tamy let me know her experience and how she would support me . She visited me in my home to meet and she made a very detailed birth plan for me. She also showed me the tools she uses to help with laboring. Such as : a labor comb, a ball and essential oils. She even purchased a eucalyptus oil for me, per my request. She went above and beyond before my labor and I felt supported and prepared before birth. Once labor started Tamy came to the hospital so fast. She made sure I was comfortable and all my needs were met and that the nurses and doctors were on the same page as me . She was there for every contraction holding my hand and fanning me. She massaged me and helped me labor in the tub, and helped me labor on the ball. I had a foley bulb for a few hours and even through the pain she took her time to talk to me and helped me not focus on the pain but the end goal. I felt so supported , heard and prepared with Tamanno as my Doula. She was so caring , understanding and nurturing . I labored for close to 36 hours and she was there for me every minute . Her communication is superb and she even helped my family who helped me and came to visit. I would recommend her a million times over . She will listen to your needs and make sure you get everything you ask for as long as its safe. She looks out for you and will speak up if she wants to suggest or recommend anything that will help you. You will not regret her services. I had a great birth experience because of Tamy. I hope she can be my doula for future pregnancies as well!
