I have been supporting pregnant people for 18 years. I began my journey shortly after my own firstborn came peacefully into this world and the passion was ignited! I studied to be a midwife (CPM) with a number of excellent mentors and qualified in 2011. Hey my name is Santaya, I am a Birth doula.I work as a pregnancy coach while also being a personal trainer for delivery. I work with families to help them achieve their goals for birth. This means i meet with patients (and families) twice during pregnancy to go over needs and goals for clients birth plans. During my clients pregnancy i visit them every trimester to do a check up. In these visits i go over what to expect within that trimester and answer any of the patients questions. I also track the pregnancy in a book that i give to the patient after delivery. I offer business hours on call support to my clients. This means i will be available from 9 am-5pm for physical support, emotional support and informational support via text or call. I help assist/coach my clients with delivery at the hospital however long that may be.I don't have to do shift change. I am present during labor till a few hours after.I help support clients that decide on natural birth, epidural or C section. Postpartum clients usually feel they no longer need men after a couple hours. Most times this is natural for the family unit to adjust and adapt to normal everyday life. However, I also offer packages for postpartum newborn aftercare where I can assist with breastfeeding and overnight care of the newborn. My passion in life is the celebration of mothers. I trained as a Nurse, specializing in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing and in more recent years, working with post partum families within the hospital setting. Over my 23 year career, I have been fortunate enough to have worked in the UK, New Zealand and Canada, finally settling in beautiful British Columbia. I am based in North Vancouver, married, and have two rambunctious boys aged 5 and 8. Having been through the incredible breastfeeding journey myself, (though at times its has been like more of a rollercoaster!) I have an understanding of the challenges you may be facing as new or seasoned parents with your feeding journey. Remember that when we are told 'It comes naturally', this doesn't always mean, 'it comes easily!' That's the hard truth and something I can definitely relate to. ​ Over the years, I have supported hundreds of families discover the joys of breast feeding. Through my work with newborn and premature infants, I realized how vital this education is not just in those precious first days, but in the many subsequent months ahead. This is my calling and being able to support my community in this way brings me joy.
