Tanya Grabbe Background checked · Oct 2026

Tanya’s passion for pregnancy, birth, and babies began when she was just a child. Clients describe her as being a calm and reassuring presence, a good listener, helpful, and reliable. She’s been a Doula for over 10 years and has over 20 years of experience in caring for babies, toddlers and their families. As a part of her Doula career, she has supported clients with labor support and overnight mom and baby care. Having had such vast birth and parenting experiences herself, Tanya approaches each birth and baby with an open mind and she realizes and appreciates that every woman and baby is unique and special. Her calm and friendly demeanor will bring peace into even the most chaotic of atmospheres. Tanya attunes to the family in order to support them well and clients feel more calm and confident as a result. Tanya is the owner of Tennessee Family Doulas and is a Labor and Postpartum Doula, a Postpartum Placenta Specialist, and a Childbirth Educator. Tanya is committed to staying up-to-date and informed so that she can be a strong informational support for her clients. Tanya's time outside of her doula work is spent nurturing her flock of chickens, cooking new recipes she finds on Pinterest, enjoying a weekly supper club/bible discussion group with great friends, and encouraging the women in her Facebook group, Pregnancy Planning, Pregnant, and Moms of Newborns in Middle Tennessee. She lives in Columbia with her husband, Jon and their 2 dogs, Willow and Sparrow. Tanya is a mother to four amazing children and Mimi to her 9 grandchildren. CLIENT QUOTES: “Tanya met and exceeded our expectations. She was an immense source of comfort and assurance to me during labor. In addition, she helped to support my husband and gave him opportunities to take breaks as needed.” “Tanya was very helpful in positioning (with an epidural) and coaching through pushing. It made this birth a lot more enjoyable (than my first).” “Tanya came to be with us shortly after our release from the hospital and ensured a much easier transition. She was willing to help with whatever would make our lives easier with a new baby – helping with laundry, errands, and making sure we were all eating and resting, to spending precious one-on-one time with our toddler! We are so thankful for Tanya and her sweet, calming nature.” “Two years and two kids later, Tanya’s calm, caring, nurturing ways have helped us navigate this unpredictable journey of parenthood through the toughest days and longest nights. I am not only fortunate for the support she has provided my children, but so grateful for the friend she is to me as well.” “Tanya has made my husband’s and my own life so much more balanced and manageable in the weeks leading up to and following the birth of my twins! She not only makes sure we get an adequate amount of rest, but also provides so much peace of mind through her immense knowledge of newborns and their needs. She is always available, day or night, to answer our questions or to help us out in numerous ways. I cannot say enough of how much of a difference Tanya has made throughout the entire process and how grateful I am for her.”

Dez Skalski

I began my doula career in 2021 and have since supported more than 100 families through pregnancy, birth, postpartum recovery, newborn care, and the transition into early parenthood. My clients have ranged from young and underserved parents navigating pregnancy with limited support to experienced parents welcoming their third baby. Through my experiences, the work I continually found myself drawn back to is education, especially helping first-time parents make sense of an experience that can feel incredibly overwhelming from the outside. Over the years, that passion has expanded beyond birth support into childbirth education, postpartum care, newborn education, and pediatric sleep.

We worked with Dez as a night nurse when our newborn was just a few weeks old, and we couldn’t have been happier with her care. She was professional, calm, dependable, and incredibly dedicated to helping both our baby and our family. What really made Dez stand out from others we had worked with was her ability to troubleshoot challenges as they came up. She brought a wealth of knowledge and insight, and she was always willing to share practical guidance that helped us better understand our baby’s needs and, ultimately, become a better sleeper. We always felt that our baby was in excellent hands, which gave us the peace of mind we needed during those early weeks/months. We would wholeheartedly recommend Dez to any family looking for a knowledgeable, caring, and trustworthy member of their childcare team!

I met Gina TWO weeks before my due date, but she managed to make me feel like she had been there my entire pregnancy. Gina made sure I knew I had options and a CHOICE. My milk didn't come in until 8 days later, which was a true struggle for me mentally. Gina was there every step on the way- teaching me and encouraging me. I am now 3months pp and I use Gina as my google search engine for all things breastfeeding/breastmilk related. Lol. Gina is kind, patient, professional, calm, incredibly knowledgeable, and a true advocate to have in your corner. I would have given up on my breastfeeding journey if it had not been for her! I can't thank her enough for everything she has done and does for me. Gina is someone you need in your corner.

As first-time parents living in a new state without family or friends nearby, we knew we wanted extra support during pregnancy and birth. We had heard about the benefits of hiring a doula for labor and delivery, but what we didn't realize until we met Jorie was how much support a doula truly provides before, during, and long after birth. Around five months into my pregnancy, we interviewed three doulas to make sure we found someone who was the right fit. We instantly connected with Jorie. Her kindness, communication style, and depth of knowledge immediately put us at ease, and we hired her on the spot. After meeting for coffee, Jorie came to our home to get to know us, meet our dogs, and see us in our own environment. She provided educational resources during our visits and followed up with thoughtful emails so we could continue learning and revisit information whenever we needed it. She helped guide us through creating our birth plan, ensuring we understood all of our options so we could make informed decisions and set realistic expectations for ourselves. One of the greatest gifts Jorie gave us was helping us build our support team beyond our OB-GYN, primary care provider, and pediatrician. She encouraged us to connect with an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant), a lymphatic drainage specialist, and a pelvic floor therapist before birth. Those professionals, along with Jorie, became an integral part of our care. Their expertise helped us not only navigate pregnancy but truly thrive throughout postpartum. When it came time for our hospital birth, Jorie was there every step of the way. She carefully documented details from our birth experience and, a few weeks later, met with us to walk through our birth story. That conversation was incredibly healing. She helped fill in gaps from moments we couldn't fully remember, process our experience, and find closure. Having that opportunity allowed us to move into the postpartum chapter with greater confidence and peace. What continues to amaze me is that Jorie's support didn't end there. She has stayed in touch throughout the years, checking in on us and our little boy, who is now turning two. She has become part of our family's story, and we love her dearly. If you're on the fence about hiring a doula, I encourage you to meet Jorie for a cup of coffee and learn more about what she offers. I also encourage you not to let cost be the only factor that keeps you from exploring doula support. Looking back, the guidance, education, advocacy, and care we received before, during, and after birth were some of the most valuable investments we made as new parents. Jorie's impact on our family has been immeasurable, and I cannot recommend her highly enough as both a doula and future IBCLC.

Christa was my daughter’s midwife in Clarksville, TN. I was present at the birth and was very impressed by Christa’s knowledge and experience. She was very professional and thorough with all her checks and was always super thorough even taking notes throughout the labor process. She had a very calm demeanor throughout the entire process and offered so many different helpful techniques and positions that really made everyone feel like everything was under control. Even at the end when things weren’t progressing as they should she immediately moved into action knew just what to do so my precious grandson was born safely and healthy at home. I personally have had 6 children at home and have watched other midwife’s work during my friend’s labor and I will put Christa at the top of that list for someone you can definitely trust to give you a safe home birth that’s tailored to you and your family. I cannot say enough good things about her! She was simply amazing and I’m so thankful that she was the one that my daughter found to attend her birth! Thank you Christa!

Our Journey with Olivia started when I discovered that I was already almost 3 months pregnant. In fact before I was present at my niece’s birth when my sister also gave birth at home and Olivia was her midwife. Since then, I knew that when I got pregnant I would want her as my midwife. Of course this is a decision to be made as a couple so when I spoke with my husband he was quite apprehensive as we were in the most difficult financial phase of our lives and we could do it for free through the national health system. He told me “ My love, with that money we can feed many poor people and God will be more pleased with us, but you decide” to which I replied “But the pregnancy and birth are very important for the future of our baby and can affect him so much” so we decided to choose Olivia and giving birth at home. It was definitely the best decision. The only decision. Olivia took care of us from every corner that we didn’t even know existed. She gave us so much information and all through natural means. She is very down to earth at the same time. We followed all her advice and we understood all the science involved and I can tell you that the results where amazing. I was hearing and seeing my pregnant friends suffering and with bloated feet etc. I had the best pregnancy ever, no bloated feet, not exhausted, full of energy eating very well and the results were a very healthy son. My birth was not easy at all because of my body structure and my son had his head in the wrong position. It took 14 hours and most of it was in the expulsion part. I can tell you if I was in a Hospital I am sure they would have done a C-section. She advised us at every step in a very smooth and organic way with all the science involved explained and with simple daily steps. And she gave us all her love. On the birth day she involved the family and created the best environment for this very special day. The most difficult and the best day of our lives. I had my husband and my mother always around, and she explained them how to do this special massage to relieve the pain and special smoothies etc. I can’t explain all the magic but in such a difficult moment she makes the best environment happen. After the baby borns she is there for you to assist you in every detail, teach you and make you feel confident and happy without fears (there are so many new parents full of fears and even many arrive to not be able to breastfeed, and simply because they didn’t have this assistance). My husband, one week after the birth, said to me “you know, if we had more money I would pay Olivia much more because really, she is more than great, you were right!” I had amazing recovery after the birth because I followed all her advice and of course my family support. But truly her knowledge is amazing. She has more than 3000 births experience in very different conditions even in African countries with very poor conditions. And I think that that experience and her BIG heart made her a really amazing midwife and friend. I wish I had more words to describe better. Until today years later I ask her questions when my son is sick or I have any doubt, and always I get a complete response of someone who really cares. I hope she trains more people to be like her because this world really needs it. I had a very good friend giving birth some days before me in the hospital. She got no explanations what so ever and when she went home she and her baby were sick. So I advise her to consult Olivia which she did and then she called me and said “sister thank you so much really, Olivia saved us, she is amazing”. We are not aware but there are many diseases and conditions that a baby can get just because of the birth or the pregnancy, especially breathing problems ( like I have) and we can avoid it just having the right knowledge and help on our side. And Olivia, apart from being a good friend, she has that knowledge and gives that help. I know she is not in my country at the moment but I told her when I get pregnant again (soon inshallah) she must come or I will go to her because I don’t want anyone else but her as our midwife. I am sure God will reward her for her great heart and amazing “work”. Thank you Olivia. We love you.

I can’t say enough positive things about Jana. Both of my children adore her. She is passionate about children and it shows in the way she cares for them. She was my postpartum doula after the birth of my son and I can’t imagine having gone through that experience without her!!!! It’s incredibly important to get rest during that time but for me it was even more important to have peace of mind that whomever was taking care of my son at night was the best of the best! So grateful for Jana!

I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about Chelsea. She cared for our daughter, London, for the first three months of her life, and I genuinely don’t know how we would have survived those early months without her. She became such an important part of our family during one of the biggest transitions of our lives. From the very beginning, Chelsea went above and beyond in every possible way. The care she gave London was incredible — she was loving, attentive, patient, knowledgeable, and completely dependable. There is an enormous amount of trust involved in handing your newborn over to someone, and with Chelsea, we never had to think twice. We knew London was safe, loved, and being cared for as if she were her own. What makes Chelsea truly special, though, is that she doesn’t just care for the baby — she cares for the entire family. She constantly checked in on both of us as new parents and genuinely cared about how we were doing physically and emotionally. She once told us how gratifying it was for her to watch us grow into our roles as mom and dad, and that perfectly captures who she is. She wasn’t simply there to do a job; she was invested in our family and in helping us become confident parents. Her support also extended far beyond the terms of her contract. As our time together was coming to an end and we realized we needed additional childcare, Chelsea went out of her way to help us figure out what came next. She helped us find additional care for London, posted on our behalf, helped us search for nannies, made connections, and continued looking out for our family even when there was absolutely nothing in it for her. That level of care and commitment is incredibly rare. Chelsea gave us peace of mind, sleep, reassurance, guidance, and so much support during a time when we desperately needed all of those things. Most importantly, she loved and cared for London so beautifully. If we ever needed her again, I would hire Chelsea in a second. I would trust her completely with London, and there is truly no higher compliment I could give someone. Any family lucky enough to have Chelsea caring for their baby — and for them — will be in exceptional hands. We will forever be grateful that she was part of London’s first few months and such an important part of the beginning of our journey as parents.

Chelsea is amazing as a night nurse. We were lucky to find her and utilize her services for 4 months. She has a super bright personality and amazing presence with the baby that totally put us at ease as parents. She has a deep love for babies and truly enjoys her work. Chelsea became part of family as our time with her progressed. Always on time, professional, sweet and caring. I would highly recommend Chelsea for any night nurse needs.
