I have been working with breastfeeding moms and families since 2015 and have been an IBCLC since 2023. My passion lies with helping new moms find a way to make breastfeeding work by offering compassionate, holistic solutions to breastfeeding issues. My specialties are with supply issues (both low and over) and pumping/flange sizing. I have special training in tongue ties and oral restrictions, low milk supply, clogged ducts, bottle refusal, and pumping. I love working with moms in every stage of breastfeeding from pregnancy through weaning and helping you meet your goals.

Recent review

I was having a really difficult time with pumping effectively. Even if I produced decent output, I'd end up having several painful clogged ducts. It got to the point where my output decreased significantly, and I was ready to give up breastfeeding and pumping completely. I had one week before I was scheduled to go back to work, and I told my husband that if I didn't figure it out during that week, I was done and our baby would be a formula fed baby. During a middle of the night wake up, I was doing some more Googling about pumping. Someone was looking out for me because I saw a video thumbnail made by Katie (The Breastfeeding Mama) and clicked on it. From there, I found her Pumping Playbook and contact information - and the rest is history! She is very responsive and so incredibly helpful. Through several videos, Zoom calls, and messaging, we finally found my correct flange size - and my pumping experience improved enough that I no longer dreaded the act! My output increased, and my nipple pain and clogged duct reoccurrence decreased. I could not recommend her more and am so thankful I stumbled upon her video. If you're thinking of reaching out to Katie for breastfeeding or pumping help, don't waste another minute! She's totally worth it.

Our daughter was a NICU baby with a complicated history who came home on a feeding tube. I had always planned on breastfeeding her, but once we were home, it felt like the problems kept piling up (oral aversion, thrush, tongue tie, severe reflux, and more), and that goal began to seem out of reach. Despite my own training as an IBCLC, I was anxious and overwhelmed, and my main objective shifted to getting her off the feeding tube by whatever means necessary. We were incredibly fortunate to find Sarah in the thick of it all. She has extensive experience with medically complex infants and with both breast and bottle feeding. She was confident she could help us, and her support never wavered. Step by step, we peeled back the layers of why feeding our baby was so complicated, and we slowly began to make progress. One day, our daughter woke up and began taking full bottles, almost out of the blue. We were overjoyed and in disbelief. What followed felt truly miraculous. About 12 hours after her first full bottle in two months, she breastfed like she had been doing it all her life. From that moment on, she was exclusively breastfed, and we never looked back. When I returned to work a few months later, she had no trouble taking a bottle, and she continues to breastfeed at 16 months old. I truly believe that without Sarah’s expertise, our daughter would have required a long-term feeding tube and breastfeeding would never have been attainable. We will always be grateful for her support during one of the hardest times of our lives.

Hi, I’m Katie—an IBCLC dedicated to supporting families with compassionate, evidence-based care. I received my lactation training through Metropolitan State University of Denver and have spent the past eight years working as both a birth and postpartum doula, supporting more than 100 families through some of the most tender and transformative moments of their lives. I come to lactation work with a foundation in Nutrition, holding a bachelor’s degree from UNC.  I have three kiddos of my own—each with their own unique breastfeeding journey. These experiences deepen my understanding that every family’s path is different, and every goal is valid. I truly love being welcomed into people’s homes and consider the postpartum period a sacred space. My approach is grounded in respect, collaboration, and meeting families exactly where they are—whether they’re navigating challenges, exploring their feeding options, or simply seeking reassurance. When I’m not working with families, you can find me snowboarding, traveling, reading, cooking, and hanging out with my little crew, hopefully outside, having an adventure!

I am so glad that I found Katie! My partner and I initially hired her as a doula for the birth of our first baby, and while the birth did not go how we hoped (instead of a full term vaginal birth, she came a month early and was delivered via C-section), Katie was so helpful and supportive leading up to the birth, and came to the hospital to support us immediately after delivery as well, which helped immensely in feeling calmer during such a shocking experience. I had many challenges with breastfeeding, due to the pre-term birth, C-section delivery, and a tongue tie, so I decided to work with Katie as a lactation consultant postpartum as well. I am now at 6 months of breastfeeding and I honestly don't know if I would have made it this far without Katie's support. In addition to coming over for weighted feeds and help with positions and advice on topics ranging from breastfeeding in public to baby-wearing, Katie was always available to provide support when I was having breastfeeding-related meltdowns. She is so warm and understanding, always providing validation, gentle suggestions, and working with me in my specific circumstances to figure out how to balance my needs in the moment with my long-term breastfeeding goals. I'm so grateful to Katie and cannot recommend her enough!

Hiring Kristen as our doula was the best thing I did for my pregnancy and birth. She made herself available throughout the final few months of my pregnancy via countless texts and phone calls prepared to answer all the wild questions I had about any symptoms or feelings. When I finally went into labor, none of us knew I’d be in it for a whopping 60 hours before my son was in my arms. I could go on and on about all the things she did to help get my son in an optimal position (there were many) but at the end of the day, she was just there for me. There for me when I thought I’d be having an unmedicated birth center birth. There for me when we had to have a c-section instead. And there for me after while I processed it all. She is amazing and I’d hire her again and again and again.

Christina Hightower, BSN-RN, LCCE

Hi, I’m Christina Nurse. Doula. Educator. RYT 200. Mother. Air Force Veteran. And a lifelong student of the sacred unfolding of birth. I believe birth is a threshold—a place where time softens, the soul speaks, and the body remembers how to open. My journey began in the hospital, serving birthing people as a labor and postpartum nurse. There, I witnessed both the strength of the human spirit and the ways modern care can overlook the deeper layers of the birthing experience—the heart, the spirit… the knowing. What I longed to offer was more than clinical care. I wanted to blend evidence-based practice with intuition—to hold space for both the science and the soul of birth. So I stepped out of sterile rooms and into the sacred work of bridging that gap—and founded Nest & Soul. Text 719-370-9335 to connect!

Christina was my doula for my third birth and I am beyond happy with the care she provided my baby and myself before, during and after my delivery. After having a traumatic birth experience with my second, I knew I wanted to hire a doula as extra support for my third birth. Christina met and exceeded all of my expectations: she gave me tools to mentally prepare for my third birth that lead to me having my most beautiful birth yet. I especially loved that she wasn’t negative towards me getting an induction when it became medically necessary, and she supported me every step of the way. Her education and additional certifications provided me with information and options that I believe prevented unnecessary interventions. She is not only extremely wise, but also professional and kind. I’m so happy I made the decision to have her as my doula, and I will be recommending her to everyone I know!

I had the absolute pleasure of working with Ariel with 2 of my children. We first came to her for my daughter when she was around 2 years old. She didn’t have any words. Ariel was so patient with her and created a wonderful rapport with my very shy daughter. Ariel has a way of getting my daughter out of her shell and really getting her to participate in her therapy even when my daughter didn’t want to. Ariel is just too fun that my daughter couldn’t refuse! My daughter made amazing progress while working with Ariel and talks nonstop now! I also love how Ariel was not only willing but very encouraging to bring other family members to our sessions, even young siblings. She loved being able to help others in our family understand what my daughter was going through and how they could help her be successful. When my youngest was born and was having feeding difficulties I knew exactly who I wanted to help us. Once again, Ariel was wonderful at explaining everything and listening to my concerns. Because of Ariel I was able to breastfeed him for over a year! If you are looking for someone that will come alongside you and your family to help you all succeed in your kiddos communication or feeding journey, I don’t think there’s anyone better than Ariel.

Hi there, I’m Ellie! I'm an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), a registered nurse with years of experience in Level IV NICUs—and a mom of two boys, each with their own hard, imperfect feeding journey. I know what it's like to be sore, sleep-deprived, and wondering if you're doing any of this right. That's exactly why I do this work. When a mom feels supported in the postpartum season, everything gets a little lighter—for her, her baby, and her whole family. My job is to bring answers and encouragement right when you need them most. Best of all, my services can be covered by insurance plans, meaning many families pay nothing at all.

Ellie is absolutely amazing and everyone needs an Ellie in their corner! I met her two months into my nursing journey when I was struggling immensely and feeling completely overwhelmed. Before finding her, I had already sought out help from several different IBCLCs, but Ellie was a breath of fresh air. She took the time to really listen to me, brainstorm practical solutions, and was so empathetic and kind every step of the way. Ellie made me feel so supported and truly stood by me as a valued partner through what has been one of the toughest, most vulnerable times so far for me. She totally gets the unique struggles that nursing can come with, and she always comes prepared to tackle absolutely anything together with you. Beyond her incredible expertise, she is just so genuinely sweet and kind. Ellie will champion you every single step of the way, celebrating all of your wins and successes—no matter how small. I truly cannot recommend her enough!

Hello everyone! My Name is Kirsten Halstead. As an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) with more than 25 years of lactation support experience, and a Registered Nurse with over 35 years of experience in maternal child nursing, I can provide you with the care and support to help you meet your feeding goals. I understand the importance of providing support for parents as they navigate the joys and challenges of breastfeeding. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it! Human milk is the best nutrition for baby humans, as it is specifically tailored to their needs. Breastfeeding is also a learned skill that is traditionally passed down through families. In the past, all babies were breastfed and new parents had the support of their own family members to guide them through the process. Today, many parents may not live close to their extended families, and the availability of formula has led to a decline in breastfeeding knowledge and rates. It's important to remember that breastfeeding is a natural and beautiful thing, and with the right support and resources, most parents can learn to breastfeed successfully.

Kirsten is amazing!! I have an oversupply of breast milk and she helped me create a plan that works for both me and my little one. She was able to meet me at my house which was great and I felt comfortable with her right away. I highly recommend!

Katie is incredible, you need to work with her if you are expecting or on your breastfeeding journey! She was my doula for two births and my lactation consultant for my most recent baby. Having her in the hospital when baby and I were getting acquainted was so helpful, and even better was having her visit a few days in when there were new challenges, and knowing that as inevitably more challenges and nuances come up, she's just a call away. Katie was able to provide me with so much confidence and stand with me in all the questions... is baby getting enough? How much should she be getting? Is she swallowing too much air? Is she comfortable? How do we latch her when she's overtired or refusing to eat? And so much more. She is so knowledgable and her care instincts are so on point for both mom and baby. I felt so comfortable around Katie, like she was a friend or family member in addition to part of my care team. I will never have a baby without her on my team.
