It is an honor to be here. My name is Mia Willis, a Chicago-based birth worker, educator, and founder of Sorin Motherhouse—a maternal practice devoted to the protection, becoming, and realignment of the mother. Sorin Motherhouse is built on the belief that maternal care is sacred work, not a service industry. My approach to birth and maternal care is relational rather than transactional, grounded in presence, discernment, and sovereignty over saviorism. My work is informed by lived experience, research-backed training, and clinical practice, honoring the mother as the primary site of wisdom and transformation. I hold training in traditional birth work and budding herbalism alongside modernized birth support, with an emphasis on trauma-informed care that is respectful of diverse lived realities. My practice also includes foundational education in nutrition and lactation support during pregnancy and the fourth trimester. I have served over seventy families as a full-spectrum doula, holding space across a wide range of birth experiences with care, steadiness and integrity. Sorin Motherhouse is carefully curated maternal space for those who approach birth as a rite and maternal care as a serious, embodied charge. It centers mothers who enter pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood with the understanding that becoming requires intention, rest, and deep respect. Sarah was thrown into birth work in 2015 when her best friend went into preterm labor while her support team was out of town. Sarah sprung into action, supported her friend, and discovered that birth work is where she belongs! She subsequently trained with Prodoula and DONA International, certified through DONA, and is now honored to join families in this life changing process and support them within a health system that can be hard to navigate. She is even more invested in birth work after giving birth to her daughter in 2021. Her compassion, calm presence, and flexible personality add to her skills as a doula. Originally trained as an artist, Sarah’s creativity and observation skills help her attune to her clients’ needs and work well alongside their care providers. She lives in Hyde Park and loves yoga, ceramics, and taking advantage of great live music in Chicago.

I've been teaching Evidence Based Birth for two years and I recently finished Midwifery school (to be licensed in 2026). Most people who take my class are at a birth center or hospital. Many want an empowered low-intervention birth, but most also want information about the benefits of epidurals, and when is the best time to get one. I learned the words "doula" and "midwife" for the first time while reading one of the many pregnancy books i stumbled across at a thrift store. Lissah is the Co-Founder of (Re)Birth Society. She serves as a Full Spectrum Doula, specializing in Home Birthing, Spontaneous Physiological Birthing and Afro-Indigenous Birth Practices. Lissah completed the Doula Training International (DTI) program in 2018 and has since trained under elder and with peer midwives, doulas, and birth assistants, receiving traditional hands-on trainings and skills. Lissah is an initiated Root Worker of the Ingram-Seay & Lipscomb/Pruitt-Williams lineages of North & Central Alabama and is on the path of Grand Midwifery & Root Doctoring within the Hoodoo Tradition. With over 7 years of education and experience in the field of plant-spirit medicine, she is a certified herbalist and current student at Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine. In addition to her wellness work, Lissah is a scholar, educator & journalist with a focus on African-Indigenous cultural history and heritage.
