My father was born in Venezuela and mother, on the Alabama Coushatta reservation near Livingston. I grew up in a large family amongst 6 siblings who taught me how important it is to take into account a plurality of perspectives and experiences. I am trained as a birth and postpartum doula through Doula Trainings International and have a wealth of information I acquired through research, education, and life experience. I believe in the popular education model, and see that education doesn't follow hierarchical pathways; it always flows in both directions. I’m also a research nerd. My name is Laporcha Foster most people call me LaLa. I am from Houston, Texas and I am a mother to 4 beautiful souls (3 girls and 1 boy). I am a traveling birth/postpartum doula who is also an end of life doula (helping others transition over to the after life). I became a doula after realizing nursing school wasn’t for me. I wanted to be a L&D nurse then a Nurse Practitioner so I could deliver babies. One day I was talking to my spiritual coach who told me my ancestors told her I was a medicine healing lady, and my life purpose was to be a midwife. I never thought to be one even though I heard so many people talked about having midwives and doula when I was pregnant with my son.
