After retiring from a long career of working with children and families, I became a professional doula. I wanted to support and nurture birthing persons during this sacred time of their lives. I wanted to offer sacred holistic services to them, youth, and communities by partnering with them as they learn more about holistic reproductive wellness. I also wanted to educate them about the importance of preventive reproductive health care, maternal health justice, trauma-informed quality childcare, equity and advocacy, childbirth education and basic lactation support through coaching, training, and mentoring not only birthing persons but the community and new doulas. So, I immersed and dedicated myself to learning all that I could about how to support in this way. ​ I am the mother of two amazing adult sons and oftentimes reflect on my birthing experiences. They were both very different births but what helped me survive was the birthing team I chose and the village around me when I returned home and encourage those, I serve to embrace their community and build their village. ​ I am also a Childbirth Educator, an author, singer/songwriter, a Master of Ceremony and a speaker. My journey into this work began in a deeply personal way—witnessing birth as a child, I was struck by how powerful, raw, and transformative it was. That early experience stayed with me and ultimately led me down the path of midwifery. Years later, I went on to have my own home birth with my daughter in 2009—an experience that further rooted my belief in the body’s innate wisdom and the importance of feeling safe, supported, and truly seen during birth. I went on to train as a traditionally trained midwife (CPM, LM), working hands-on with families across California and building a strong clinical and intuitive foundation in the midwifery model of care—one that honors pregnancy and birth as physiologic, sacred, and deeply human experiences. I am a 25 year old mother of two, and my journey into becoming a doula is deeply rooted in my own birth experiences. I’ve had both a hospital birth and two unassisted, natural home births, which gave me a well-rounded perspective on how powerful and capable women are when they feel supported, safe, and heard. During my first birth in a hospital setting, I found myself having to advocate strongly for my own choices, which opened my eyes to how essential it is for mothers to have someone in their corner. What led me to this work is my belief that mothers deserve to be at the center of their birth experience. While the focus often shifts to the baby, a mother’s physical, emotional, and mental well being is just as important especially during and after delivery. Birth environments, particularly hospitals, can sometimes feel chaotic or overwhelming, but with the right support and advocacy, they can also be calm, respectful, and empowering spaces. I understand that while many women desire home births, not all have that option, especially in higher risk situations. As a doula, my role is to help create a peaceful, supportive atmosphere wherever birth takes place, while ensuring that each mother’s voice is heard, respected, and honored throughout her journey.
